Chapter 40

I'm Home

It was a mess. Every temple, even Macelania temple had fiends pouring out of it! And every time we defeated an aeon, there was another hole where the fayth statue had once been.

We all stood on the bridge, thinking and wondering what to do.

"I don't get it. Why are fiends coming out of the temples?" Rikku asked.

I shrugged and Shinra came over.

"Fortunately I know everything."

"We're listening." I said.

"The fiends didn't come from the temples. They came from the Chambers of the Fayth."

"Which is inside the temple. But why?" I said.

He was silent for a few seconds before saying,

"I'm just a kid."

I groaned and rolled my eyes. Paine walked forward.

"The holes, were they there before?"

"No." Yuna told her.

"So then the holes must be new right?" Rikku asked.

"There was one in Bevelle too. A great hole..."

"But that was left by Vegnagun. It wasn't a fayth." I said.

"Yes, but they're connected somehow." said Yuna.

"The holes... are connected?" Brother asked.

The confusion on his face was funny.

"Yes, but it's more than just that. Somehow, I think there are deeper connections."

"Ohhh... that is deep Yuna."

An alarm started going off and Buddy told us we were getting a distress call from Djose. Brother wanted to leave Gippal to handle his own problems, but Yuna said we'd just charge him extra. I smirked and we went to Djose.

"Drao vicat fedr cusa uv uin sylrehy!" (They fused with some of our machina!) One said.

My eyes widened.

"Translation, not good!"

"Well then that's our cue."

We ran inside and fought our way past the fiends. I already had a good guess as to what was behind the fiends. And sure enough when we reached the top there was the Aeon Ixion. I'd never been more glad that I knew water spells than in that very moment. Sure enough, there was another hole where the fayth used to be. I sensed something moving behind us and when I turned my eyes widened.

"MOVE!"

Rikku, Paine and I jumped away, but Yuna fell into the hole after Ixion charged at her! I looked at Paine.

"Take care of my son!"

"NO! Wait!"

I jumped in and fell. I didn't know what would happen, but when I woke up I found myself in the Farplane. I didn't see Yuna anywhere.

"Yuna!" I called.

"Amahy…"

I gasped and then slowly turned.

"It's not you…..only my memories." I whispered.

I felt his hand on my shoulder.

"It is me! Look at me Amahy."

I slowly turned around. There he was. He wasn't solid but he was there, smiling at me. He was younger. He looked the way he had before Yunalesca killed him.

"Auron!"

I wanted to hug him but I would only go right through him.

"Amahy what are you doing here?"

"Yuna fell down a hole and I jumped in after her."

"I haven't seen her here."

I looked around frantically and something fell out of my satchel. Auron picked it up and my eyes went wide.

"Auron..."

"Is this the...?"

I nodded.

"Drink it!"

He didn't hesitate. Shinra told me he'd added one last ingrediant. Something he was only able to get due to our temporary alliance with Leblanc. Auron fell to his knee and I cried out. Forgetting that I would only go through him, I ran to him. He looked up and his first reaction was to take my hand... and he did! He was holding my hand.

"Auron?"

He noticed it too and stood up. I moved closer and slowly reached up. I laid my hand on his warm cheek and it didn't go through him! I smiled and threw my arms around him. He wrapped his powerful arms around me and swung me around.

"You did it, Amahy!" he said.

Tears of joy filled my eyes and I leaned back. He kissed me hard.

"Amahy?"

I turned and there was Yuna. Her eyes went wide and she gasped when she saw Auron.

"Sir Auron!"

She ran to us.

"He's alive. He's here again." I said.

"But how?"

"You'll have to ask Shinra. Though I doubt he'll give away his secrets. I don't care either way."

Yuna smiled at me and hugged me.

"You don't know how happy it makes me, to see you smile like that."

"Come, we must find a way out." Auron said.

We nodded and Auron took my hand. I smiled at him and touched his cheek.

"Let's go home." I said.

He kissed my palm and we started looking for a way out. We walked for what seemed like hours until we heard a whistle.

"That sounds like..."

"Tidus!"

We saw what looked like a ghost. He whistled again and we all ran after him. We went through a bright light and when I looked around, we were in the Bevelle underground.

I quickly checked to make sure Auron was still beside me. He was! I smiled at him and he pulled me into his arms. I saw Yuna smile with tears in her eyes. I went to her and hugged her.

"I promise we'll get Tidus back."

"I know. I'm just glad that you finally got what you so deserved." she told me.

"YUNA!? AMAHY?!"

We both cringed when they stated shouting in our ears.

"Amahy?!"

"I'm fine! Guys we're fine. We're... somehow we're in Bevelle."

"We're coming to get you!" Rikku said.

"Good... Yuna and I... and another." I whispered.

Auron smiled at me and took me back into his arms. Once we were out of the underground and in the sun I smiled.

"Welcome home." I said.

He kissed me softly. I finally had what I set out to find. But I knew my journey was far from over. We still had to find Vegnagun.
