"And who are you?" The headmaster gave me an icy glare as I stood before him.

"I am Kayo, sir. Pleased to meet you." Being formal and polite, I bowed to him flawlessly as I had learned this type of greeting from a very young age and used it throughout my life. Satisfied that I was a respectful student, the headmaster asked me a few questions and I kept my answers simple, telling him that my family were travelling performers, that I had been sent here to complete my education and that I was honoured to be here. With a little flattery and charm, I was accepted without any problems and taken to my class.

Aang had been lingering just out of sight, waiting to see me emerge from the office and when a sent a wink his way, he grinned and gave me the thumbs up before disappearing. Classes were boring and far too easy, meaning that for the most part I just stared out the window, though there was this one guy I took note of, Hide, because he was a total ass kisser and a jerk. He was argumentative and arrogant, swaggering about the place and when he first clocked me as a new student, he immediately came over to assert his dominance, like the egotistical annoyance he was.

"You must be new here. I'm Hide, top student in this school. You're kind of cute, so I guess I can let you hang around me if you want, maybe I'll even be able to help you out if you don't understand something." He said to me before smirking. "Though, I don't expect you'll be staying here long, right circus freak? I heard the teacher say you live with some kind of travelling circus and that you don't have a proper education." Rolling my eyes as I stood up, I reached out and pressed my forefinger against my thumb, adding pressure before finally flicking him just above the bridge of his nose. He yelled and jerked backwards, tripping over a seat in the process and hitting the floor as I stood over him.

"That may be true, but I'm still above you." I retorted coolly, tossing my hair before heading outside to go find Aang since we were in break. He was quick to spot with the band around his head, so I walked up behind him and tapped his shoulder. "Hey, how are classes?"

"Okay I guess, not as fun as yesterday. We had a quiz today, and one of the questions asked us what year Sozin defeated the Air Nation army." Aang said before spreading his arms wide in frustration whilst simultaneously keeping his voice down as not to be overhead. "We didn't even have an army!"

"Well that sucks. Still, hopefully it'll pick up. You have music next, right? That should be fun. I remember Iroh used to host music nights on the ship and I learned how to play several different instruments. If it's anything like that, you'll have fun." Looking a little more hopeful, Aang perked up a bit as I then described what I'd learned in my class, things like advanced arithmetic and military tactics.

"Wow, that sounds boring."

"Meh, only because it's easy. I learned arithmetic when I was eleven and Iroh taught me all about military tactics and battle strategy. I can recite basically the entire history of Fire Nation military excursions and battles by heart. Hey, if you get any homework, I'll do it for you okay? That way you won't have to worry." Grinning at me, Aang and I hung out for a while talking until he was approached by a few kids from his class who looked at me nervously.

"Um, Kuzon? Are you okay? Did you offend this senior somehow?" One of the kids asked nervously before bowing. "We're very sorry if our classmate offended you, please don't be mad!"

"Relax guys, Kuzon and I are friends. I've known him for a while before we got here." I waved a hang to reassure them. "You all look so nervous talking to me, I'm only a few years older. Do the grown up kids really pick on you guys so much?" They all paled and looked away so I sighed. "Don't let them walk all over you, otherwise you'll end up letting people do that to you your whole lives. It's not worth living like a doormat for the rest of your lives."

"Exactly! We should all go have some fun and play a game, can my friend Kayo come play too?" Aang questioned and after recovering from being startled at how nice I was to them, the kids all agreed so we played some ball in the yard until it was time to go back to class. "See you later Kayo!"

"Behave yourself Kuzon! Try not to cause trouble." I called back with a wave before I returned to class for more endlessly boring lectures on stuff I either already knew or could figure out myself. The problem with being taught by Iroh was that it made everything else way too boring. At least he made things sound interesting. Even horticulture was a fascinating subject when he talked about it! This just made me want to tear my hair out in frustrations.

"Young lady, since you seem to already know the curriculum so well that you do not even bother to pay attention, perhaps you would like to recite for the rest of the class what we have been learning today? Stand up!" When a cane slapped down against the desk, it took me a moment to realise the teacher was talking to me, and when the student next to me gave me a nudge, I quickly stood up and bowed.

"As you wish." Taking a breath, I then recited the full history of Fire Nation Naval victories, including dates, strategies, numbers and everything in between without missing a single detail or making a mistake. With the teacher now staring at me, I bowed once I had finished and sat down once more.

"How…how do you know all this? We have not yet covered half of this material. Were you perhaps in an advanced class in your old school?" She asked me so I shrugged.

"My uncle is a very smart man, he taught me personally for many years." Impressed and pleased with my knowledge, the teacher allowed my rudeness at not paying attention pass with a warning before she continued. Ugh, can this day just end please? I was kept back after class by the teacher who asked me a few more questions about my uncle, Uncle Mushi as I told her, before she let me go with a note to say that I would likely be tested soon to see if I should be advanced up a level or so.

Breaking for lunch, I headed out onto the yard to find Aang again and check in on him, only to find that the obnoxious kid Hide was attacking him with a fireball. "What'd you say, colony trash? You're gonna show her something?" He was storming over to Aang who was standing next to a girl quite innocently.

"Just some dance movements."

"Nobody shows my On Ji anything, especially movements." Oh great, this numbskull was a serious pain in my ass, how could anybody actually be so dumb? Here I thought Sokka was bad, but he was worse. Hide started to lunge at Aang who neatly dodged him, keeping out of Hide's reach by using his air bending training to avoid being hit. In the meantime, I had started pushing and shoving my way through in order to help Aang, but just as I pushed through the last layer of crowd that had gathered, Hide punched forwards but lost his footing as Aang dodged, making him hit the ground just as the headmaster arrived.

"Picking fights on your second day? We need to have a conference to discuss your punishment. Bring your parents to my office after school." Oh crap, this is bad.

"Parents? But..." Alarmed, Aang desperately looked around at me for help so I made a staying motion with my hand to make him calm down as the headmaster ordered him not to be late. "This is bad!"

"We'll figure something out, just be cool." I assured him as Hide picked himself off the ground, sniffling like a wimp as he dusted himself off then looked at Aang angrily. I immediately held out my arm, shifting my feet into a defensive stance as Hide pointed at him.

"You're going to get what's coming to you, colony trash!" With that he stormed off, but now he'd pissed me off well and truly so I cracked my knuckles.

"Kuzon? Stay here and don't move. I'll be back." Focusing in on Hide, I followed him as he head back into the school and came up behind him, sneaking quietly before I grabbed him around the mouth and head then dragged him into an empty classroom where I pulled his shirt over his head as he yelled before grabbing his belt and whisking it off with a flourish.

"Hey! Who's there? You can't do this to me! Do you know who my father is? I'll have you thrown in jail for this!" Ignoring him, I used the belt to tie his wrists behind his back then used the remainder to tie up his ankles, trapping him on the floor with his shirt still covering his head as he started to whimper. "Please don't hurt me…I'll do anything you want!"

"Jeez, what a loser." Rolling my eyes, I grabbed a brush and some ink in order to write on his bare chest and stomach some rude and mean things, paying him back for messing with Aang before I then knocked him out with an expert strike that Iroh had taught me. I wasn't prone to violence, but I'd gotten somewhat used to it and this guy had insulted Aang, which was totally a no go area, so once he was unconscious I stole all his clothes except his underpants, bound him up again and doodled on his face with the ink before I was satisfied. "That'll teach you, jerk."

Throwing his clothes away I returned to Aang, wiping my face where I'd smudged some ink on my cheek. "What happened?"

"Oh nothing, just played a little prank that's all. Let's get going, we better tell Sokka about this. Boy is he gonna be mad." Slinging my arm across Aang's shoulders I brought him back to the cave, and sure enough when we told Sokka what had happened, he totally flipped, ranting at the both of us as we stood there like kids being scolded by a parent. What a lousy day, I'm so finished with school.
