Sam and Jack had used all their free time on base playing and interacting with the girls. It wasn't unusual for Daniel or Michelle to be seen with the kids as well. The girls were growing weary in the SGC, and Jack had wanted nothing more than to go, let them play at the park. Janet had finally cleared the girls after five days.
Jack begged general Hammond to allow them to go to the park down the street from his home. The general granted him permission, and Sam and Jack show the girls the slides and the swings and the monkey bars. Jack and Sam couldn't keep the grins off their faces. They spent hours at the park before heading back to the SGC.
"Do we really have to go?" Myalah asked.
"Yes, honey, I'm sorry," Jack claimed.
Myalah dropped her head, and Lupali started to cry.
Jack picked up Lupali, who wrapped her arms around Jack's neck. Sam held Myalah's hand, and they walked back to Sam's car.
"I promise we'll come back really soon." Sam claimed.
The girls seemed a little bit more upbeat at her words.
By the time they got to the SGC, Lupali was asleep, and Jack had carried her back to the facility. Myalah was obviously tired as well, and she fell asleep with Lupali.
Sam and Jack smiled at the girls, and Jack kissed Sam on the temple.
"I love you; you're so good with them, you're going to be a great mom." Jack whispered.
Sam smiled and kissed his lips.
"You know you make a pretty great dad yourself." Sam claimed.
Jack beamed but suddenly frowned, and Sam rubbed his arms, trying to get him out of the train of through.
"Hey." Sam claimed.
Jack seemed to come out of it, and she kissed his lips again.
"Back to work?" Jack asked.
"Back to work." Sam claimed.
The two left the girls and finished up what needed to be done for the day.
Daniel had been working on a translation for a scroll when Sam came into his office.
"So how far behind are you?" Sam asked.
"At this rate, oh about 5 years." Daniel claimed.
Sam cringed.
"That bad?" Sam asked.
"There is just so much we don't know, and I how am I supposed to know all this?" Daniel asked.
"You're not Daniel, if you can't figure out some Alien language that uses nothing on earth, no one is going to blame you." Sam claimed.
"I do," Daniel said, upset.
Sam smiled.
"I know, I hate when I can't figure out what something is, but when we don't have the knowledge, it's impossible." Sam claimed.
Daniel quickly nodded his head.
"So, is there anything that we can take to storage maybe to be evaluated later?" Sam asked, looking around the messy office.
"Yeah, thanks, Sam, it means a lot." Daniel claimed.
Sam smiled.
"You see the girls today?" Sam asked.
"Not yet, they love you and Jack." Daniel mentioned.
"They're just clinging to people they know." Sam claimed.
"So, do you know what the plan is?" Daniel asked.
"What plan?" Sam asked.
"For the girls, where are they going?" Daniel asked.
Sam looked sad suddenly as if she suddenly forgot the girls just couldn't live on base.
"Sam, you have to know they can't just live here." Daniel claimed.
Suddenly Sam felt like she couldn't breathe, and reality was sinking in sooner rather than later, General Hammond would have the girls on some strange planet to live out their lives and made Sam sick to her stomach.
"Sam?" Daniel asked.
"I'm fine, Daniel, no, you're right. I'm not sure where they're going." Sam admitted.
Daniel just nodded, and Sam was oddly quiet, only asking every now and again if something should be labeled for storage.
Jack had been doing paperwork when an Airman knocked on the door.
"The little girl is asking for you and is very upset. No one can calm her down." the man stated.
Jack looked concerned and followed the airman to the room the girls had been staying in Lupali was having a meltdown.
Jack had noticed she was talking more clearly and more comfortable.
"Lupali, sweetheart, what's wrong?" Jack asked.
The little girl came running to him and practically jumped into his arms, he lifted her up, and the little girl was nuzzling his neck, big wet tears, and snot all over the collar of his shirt.
"She had a bad dream." Myalah explained.
Jack just nodded.
"Lupali, bad dreams can be really scary, I know, but they aren't real. I'm here." Jack stated.
The girl seemed to be calming down.
"Why don't I take her for a walk around the base, and I'll be back with her." Jack told the airman.
He nodded and asked Myalah if she was okay. The girl said "yes."
Do you want to come with us?" Jack asked. The girl looked around.
"If you need your space that's fine we'll be back," Jack said.
Myalah nodded her head and smiled when she realized she would have the room to herself.
Jack took Lupali around the base. They stopped and talked to Teal'c which Lupali always found the man interesting. They spoke to Michelle, and she gave Lupali some M&Ms, which made her happy and started to perk up, and then he went to Daniel's office, where he saw him and Sam labeling stuff for storage.
"Hey," Jack stated.
"SAM, DANIEL," The little girl yelled and wiggled to get out of Jack's grasp.
"You could ask next time you know!" Jack said rubbing his ribs.
"Whats this?" Lupali asked and pointed to one of the thousand things in Daniel's office.
This went on for about 20 minutes, and although Daniel enjoyed spending time with the little girl, it was getting a little grating.
"I think it's lunchtime Lupali, goes to you guys too," Jack stated.
"We'll meet you over there as soon as the last box is labeled," Sam claimed. Jack nodded and took off to get food.
Daniel and Sam were only about 5 minutes behind, and the four sat down at a back table. Lupali had walked over to Sam, wanting to sit on her lap to eat.
Sam was telling her what all the stuff was in the lunch line. They already found out green beans and pork was a no go.
Lupali loved sweets, and Jack had only let her get bananas and a small piece of cake.
She was eating rigatoni and said, "mmm," When it hit her lips. Sam smiled.
Sam, Jack, and Daniel didn't have much of a conversation. They just watched entertained as Lupali tried new foods.
"Well, I think she needs to get back with her sister soon," Jack claimed.
"NO! Stay with you!" Lupali stated and got off Sam's lap and over to Jack's.
Daniel smiled brightly.
"Sorry, but I still have to work on a few things. After I'm done, I'll come to play with you and Myalah; then it will be bedtime." Jack claimed.
The girl pouted but nodded.
"Sam coming too?" Lupali asked.
"Of course," Sam answered.
"Daniel coming too?" Lupali asked.
"Sure thing," Daniel stated.
Sam smiled.
"Michelle coming too?" Lupali asked.
"I don't know, sweetheart, she might be going home," Jack stated.
"T coming too?" Lupali asked.
"I don't know, I'll ask him." Jack claimed.
"Robert coming too?" Luapli asked.
"Lupali, do you just want everyone in your room tonight?" Jack asked.
"YEAH!" She screamed, causing a bunch of people to look up.
The three adults couldn't help but chuckle.
"I'll see what I can do," Jack stated.
The end of the day comes slowly, but as Sam goes to the girl's room, she notices that the door is open and there is a small group in the room. She noticed Daniel, Teal'c Robert, and Michelle. Jack had yet to make it.
Michelle is teaching the girls duck duck goose, and Sam wished she had a camera. One of the airmen was sitting in the circle while one stayed outside the door.
"I already had my turn," Airman Simmons claimed.
Sam laughed, not sure if she wanted to walk in there yet or not.
Jack came up beside her, not caring about the man guarding the door, and wrapped his arms around her.
"So, shall we?" Jack asked.
"You think you can win with your knees?" Sam asked.
"Excuse me, I think duck duck goose is my specialty," Jack stated.
"Sure." Sam laughed.
"Just you wait!" Jack said, and he walked in the door.
"Make room, Carter here thinks I'm too old to play," Jack says mumbling.
Sam smiled and also sat down in the circle. Daniel was currently the gooser.
Daniel went around the circle, going.
"Duck, Duck, Duckā¦."
Sam wasn't sure how her life had become this, but the last five days with the girls had been something she never thought would be so satisfying. If she had to admit it, she was sure that seeing the girls go would be the hardest thing she's done in the whole time she was there. Watching Cassie with a bomb inside her and staying with her, well, that was second nature. After she was cleared and she knew Janet was taking the girl in, well, she knew that meant she could see Cassie anytime she wanted. It was rare that refugees stayed on this planet. Sam hadn't noticed the tear stream down her face as Daniel tapped her head and yelled, "Goose!"
