Silver Beast: Triggered
May 26 - Tuesday afternoon
Kagome was worried. It had been well over two days since she'd last spoken to Inuyasha. She'd left him half a dozen texts and at least three voicemails trying to reach him. He usually got in contact within an hour or two at the most; not days. She'd seen that he'd opened the first message in their text group but he stopped opening them over 32 hours ago. Was he ignoring her like Sabrina believed? Had his meeting with Kikyo been another trap? Was he hurt or… worse? Something wasn't right and it had her mind racing with every terrible situation imaginable.
She'd tried reaching out to Kagura at school but she too was absent. Had something gone wrong with the Silver Clan? Was it possible that the entire left? Could she have possibly offended them all? She was so confused and it pained her not knowing what was going on! She thought about having Chief Mattaki look into it but thought better of it. It wasn't fair to bring her new alpha into her relationship drama. She could figure this out on her own. She just needed to think outside the box a little. Finally having enough, she slammed the car door shut and jammed the keys into the ignition.
She didn't care if her coming to the Taisho's home uninvited demanding answers made them mad or made her look like she was a crazy emotional bitch. She was going to find out what the hell was going on even if it was the last thing she did. So far she'd only been to Inuyasha's house once. She just hoped she wouldn't end up lost trying to find it. Thankfully she only got turned around once on her mission to find the Taisho residence. She could have sworn Inuyasha went down two of those roads but maybe she'd been mistaken? When she pulled up to their driveway she rang the buzzer on the intercom.
RING…. RING… RI
"State your business." Answered a cool voice.
"Sesshomaru? Is that you?" Kagome exclaimed into the intercom. "Please tell me Inuyasha's alright. I've been trying to reach him but he isn't answering!"
"He is safe." Sesshomaru said, making her shoulders relax slightly.
"Thank goodness… I was so worried something happened to him." Kagome sighed as she rested her forehead on the steering wheel. "Can you have him message me please? I need to speak with him."
"He is currently indisposed at the moment." Sesshomaru said. "Depending on his current state of mind he might not be able to reach you for some time."
"Please Sesshomaru… I need to speak with him." Kagome whimpered.
"Ms. Higurashi…" Sesshomaru sighed.
"Please, if I've offended him or endangered your family in any way by being a seer I'm sorry!" Kagome cried. "If there's a way for Inuyasha and I to meet privately so I can try and fix my mistakes then please let me in! I can't let our relationship end like this!"
-Silence-
"Sesshomaru?" Kagome sniffled when the stillness lingered a moment too long.
"You will park your car in the garage and push the "D" button in the elevator. It will bring you to my location. We will speak more when you arrive." Sesshomaru sighed. "Nothing you see will be shared outside of my home or you will suffer the consequences. Is that understood?"
"Yes, Sir." Kagome promised as she quickly wiped away her tears.
"I will see you inside." Sesshomaru said as he unlocked the gates.
Not needing to be told twice Kagome shifted the car into drive and drove through the maze of trees leading to the hidden abode. As soon as she pulled the car into the garage, the doors behind her closed her in. Trying not to feel intimidated by Sesshomaru's heightened sense of security she stepped into the elevator and pushed the glowing "D" button on the control panel. Instead of going upwards towards the housing residence like she'd assumed the elevator went deep underground. When the doors opened, a dark cave greeted her. Being so deep underground the temperature had dropped significantly and shrouded the space in complete darkness. Were it not for the tiny floor lights lining the inside of the cave she might have fallen off of the path into the deadly pit below. Seeing a bright light further into the cave she cautiously stepped out of the elevator and slowly made her way down the dirt path.
She felt incredibly small as she walked deeper into the underground cave. The open space was immense and she wondered just how far this cave's various tunnels went. When she arrived at the end of the path she was greeted by a large metal door. She was about to knock for entrance when a camera appeared out of the rock wall to her left. She jumped in surprise when a tiny laser scanned her from head to toe. Inuyasha had told her Sesshomaru was paranoid about their home security but this was on an entirely different level. It made her nervous to find out what exactly was on the other side of this door. Thankfully the little camera liked whatever it saw and sank back into the wall without complaint. When she heard the distinct click of the lock unhooking she pushed the door open and stepped inside. Unlike the bare cave behind her, the metal chamber she walked into was covered from head to toe with modern technology.
She felt like she was in Batman's Bat Cave by all the buttons and gadgets decorating the space. The large room was obviously set up as a monitoring room with dozens of security cameras lining the walls and the various control stations being managed by seven Society security workers. They were obviously conducting top-secret details as they talked on their headsets and typed on their computers. It was then she noticed that they were all werewolves and the memory of Inuyasha telling her about their home being the base for the Canadian Lycan Center came to mind. She could feel their amber-eyed stares on her as she closed the door behind her but they continued to conduct their business without pause. Seeing Sesshomaru staring at a large monitor screen on the far side of the room she cautiously made her way over to him. He had his back to her with his hands crossed behind him. It was obvious by his body language that he was all business and that she best did what he said or risk sever punishment.
"Ms. Higurashi." Sesshomaru said as he acknowledged her presence. "Are you well?"
"Oh! Uh… as good as I can be I guess?" Kagome answered as she stood behind him nervously. "How are you and your family? Is everything ok?"
"My mate and pup are fine. My moronic half-brother on the other hand is a very different story." Sesshomaru said as he nodded towards the screen above them.
At first Kagome was confused as to why she was looking up at a blank monitor. When she saw the distinct shape of a man walking on all fours with long silver hair and red eyes however she paled and gasped from shock.
"Why has he transformed?" Kagome blinked in confusion as she watched Inuyasha pace relentlessly in his holding cell.
He looked like a caged animal that was stressed and ready to attack anything that got too close. His muscles were tight and rigged as he walked and had his fangs bared in a snarl as he growled. Everything about his demeanor screamed that he was an aggressive, deadly predator and it had her heart pounding in her chest. He looked so wild and completely consumed by his beast. He didn't look like her Inuyasha but a mindless killer ready to sink his teeth and claws into warm flesh. Seeing him on edge like this had her eyes misting with tears. What had triggered this transformation? The full moon wasn't for another two weeks! Someone had to have hurt him or angered him enough for him to lose control.
"He received unexpected news during his meeting with Kikyo." Sesshomaru explained as Inuyasha continued to pace back and forth in his dungeon.
"What news?" Kagome asked as she stepped a little closer to the monitor.
"It is not my business to share." Sesshomaru said as he turned towards a hallway leading deeper into the cave. "It is his choice when to tell you or not."
"I guess that's fair." Kagome agreed as she followed after him. "Where are you taking me?"
"You wished to see Inuyasha did you not?" Sesshomaru asked as he stopped in front of a large metal door half way down the hallway.
"Yeah, but do you think it's wise?" Kagome asked. "He's obviously upset. It might only make matters worse if he sees me."
"He has been confined in his holding cell for close to three days with little to no improvement." Sesshomaru said as he swiped a card into the keypad on the door. "If your presence does not wake him from his mind then I will have to result to using force."
"Force?" Kagome gulped as she followed him through the hallway lined with secure holding cell doors.
She was surprised to find there were other werewolves locked up inside holding cells. It was obvious that this section of the cave was used as a dungeon of sorts and it made her nervous not knowing what crimes or hidden dangers these lycan did to deserve being locked up. Most looked like normal human prisoners that were rough around the edges but with her seer abilities she could see them for who they were. Seeing one lycan male watching her with hunger and desire in his amber eyes sent a shiver down her spine. It was obvious by his Cheshire cat smile and wicked twinkle in his eye that she knew exactly what he was thinking. The thought of what this wicked man had likely done to get locked up had her sticking closer to Sesshomaru's side. She just hoped Sesshomaru wouldn't change his opinion of her and literally feed her to the wolves.
"Whether Inuyasha likes to admit it or not, I am his superior." Sesshomaru said as they walked up to the last holding cell. As they peered through the tiny window on the door he said, "It is my duty as his alpha to put him in his place when necessary. If he refuses to back down then we fight. I have yet to lose a match."
"Oh…" Kagome gulped as she turned to look through the tiny window once more. She gasped and jumped away from the door in surprise when glowing red eyes and a mouth full of teeth growled back at her.
