Grey does not think illy of deception, exactly, as they spin the story of a young woman stumbling across a child living feral and lost in a park after a confusing escape from people who had snatched her up. They have lived all their lives as some sort of deception- they had been a priestess in a temple of Aphrodite in Sparta, they had been a monk in a monastery making wine, a nobleman caring for their tenants, and so many other things over the cycles they had lived. They had been an L-class Keeper, and that meant close contact with the humans being raised as livestock. That meant donning names, faces, and personas to gather what they needed. Sometimes, for the higher ranking ones, that meant living as a person themselves, to make their work easier, and less suspicious so that people would not notice that there were two versions of another person running around.
They had never personally done this, as their rank had been locked after the death of Seraphi, and their own lack of ambition before that.
Becoming Venus Greyson is just another, similar step. A necessary thing to be able to function on Earth in the terrestrial side of this world, and despite Jupiter's wrinkled nose, a buffer between her DNA unit and the Verse. Jupiter wished to be honest with her family. But Grey had asked for patience, and for time. This was not for Jupiter's sake, but their own. They knew Jupiter's life had been turned upside down with her accident, her newly found Elder in the Ambassador, her subsequent disappearanceā¦
Well, they figured that a revelation of the child in their care actually being a Recurrence of a long-dead space Queen and that they had befriended a creature of another world that was older than their first cities, designated to monitor their population until they were ripe to genocide for the sake of immortality would be a little much. Grey was just starting to act for themselves, and telling the Terristials of their true existence would only make that more difficult for them. They would be too busy trying to soothe their disbelief and fear over their new understanding of the Verse to thinking of their own needs.
Grey wanted that much, to be selfish in their identity a little more. Jupiter had accepted, and swore to keep Grey's secret as long as they needed it.
And had a little too much fun dressing me up in the Queen's stash, they think. They were glad the clothing in the Heart had never been worn by the Queen in life. Something about wearing the dead woman's actual worn clothes had felt too much for Grey. At least the stash in the hanger had been amongst the most subdued that an Entitled would wish to wear, and would more or less blend into the persona they had invented for themselves.
They were a young woman born in the United States, but of a British mother who had gained custody early in their life to explain their accent. Their father had been an American businessman and had been distant at best and had died recently. Their mother had died early into their University career. They had just finished said University, gaining a degree in languages, and had paid for it working as an au pair. They had some medical training as a physical therapist because of a former charge's needs. They had immigrated back to their native United States after an unexpected inheritance from their estranged father a little after their graduation for a change of senary. They were renting a home right beside a park and were in the middle of searching for a way to occupy themselves. They had seen a girl in the play area of their local park who had been lost and confused.
Their human face was a modified version of the usual Keeper disguise, one they had chosen for themselves. In account to preserve energy, and was limited to only the areas that were visible at any given time, hence their need for clothes. It was a little stifling to their pores, they could admit, but it was also nice not having to concentrate on their body regulation in the hot Chicago summer. They had made their face pretty and soft, but not striking or very rememberable. They seemed fashionable in their original body type, or so Jupiter had assured them when they had worried that their lack of fat in certain places would make a human female a hard sell. They had contemplated padding to make up for it, but Jupiter had asked them not to attempt to hide themselves more than they already were.
All and all, Venus Greyson had taken them the better part of their time away to establish. Grey had felt terrible over denying Jupiter her DNA unit, but Jupiter had reminded them that appearing directly after her disappearance would be suspicious in itself, especially with her injuries completely healed impossibly too soon.
They had invented a persona, they had helped Jupiter and phoned the police as soon as they had everything prepared, and Jupiter was finally with her Elders. They had a simple story and would be scrutinized by Jupiter's grandfather who had some sort of connection to the Terrestrial government. An excellent test of Jupiter's ability to cheat the system in place for the terrestrials and the Entitled monitoring system itself, Grey was sure.
So far, there had been no problems, but time would tell how effective this disguise truly was.
Grey would only hope that their obvious affection for the youngling and their 'resume' would entice Jupiter's elders to hire them as a personal caregiver, or some sort of teacher. Jupiter and Grey alike had made their persona as perfect of a candidate as they could conceive without making it suspicious.
The rest was up to luck, and Jupiter's own ability to convince her Mother.
Grey had complete faith, really.
I will try to keep my updating consistently daily for this story my beautiful readers but do not be alarm if I drop off as usual. Honestly, I have been having WAY too much time fleshing out the Keepers in Grey, and I hope everyone has been enjoying reading it as well... It's just, I noticed that it was the mostly humanoid things in the 'Verse like the splices have gotten the most of the attention in the fandom, and while I have read fantastic stuff in regards to that, I kept waiting for people to be like 'But the Keepers are also sentient too' and I HAVEN'T. And I know they're generic as F in canon proper but Nah, bro, I want to make an entire thing for them.
I know you guys have been wonderfully patient in regards to the canon characters not being present so far- *BUZZ*
Oh, look guys what's coming up in a couple of chapters.
