Chapter 42 Just Talk
Allie went home with Maura to relax and get ready for the next week while Nathan walked Elizabeth home. He finally had her to himself and he asked about their day after their engagement the previous night. She says "Oh, Nathan being at the Café made it all seem real". Nathan said "That is a good thing I hope". She replies "Of course my love, it just shows everyone how much we love each other" He kisses her hand and says "That's fine with me".
.Elizabeth asks "How did you ride go with Allie". He chuckles and says "I should stop worrying about her—she is farther ahead than we are. She loves you and Little Jack and is looking forward to us all being a family and she seems to have an idea that it will be an adjustment. She knows me so well—she knew we went riding so we could talk and called me on that."
By that time they were at Elizabeth's and Jack was thrilled to see them both, he calls Nathan DA and Nathan secretly hopes it's for Dad, but they haven't spoken of it yet. Laura leaves and Nathan says "You do what you have to do Elizabeth I'll get him ready for bed." Nathan changes him and reads him a story and then sings him some lullabies. Elizabeth at this point is outside the door and her heart already full of love just bursts into happiness as she sees this big Mountie being so gentle and loving with her son. Nathan lifts Jack, kisses him softly and tucks him into his crib. Elizabeth comes beside him and says "Oh Nathan, thank you so much". Nathan says "I love putting him to bed it always feels so good". "No Nathan, thank you for loving him so much." Elizabeth states. He gathers her in his arms and says "Elizabeth can we finally admit they are both our children and we love them". "Oh yes Nathan I love Allie as much" she cries. "He says well then there is no need to thank each other as this is our family." Elizabeth kisses him deeply.
They go downstairs and settle on the settee. "Elizabeth this is all I really want, to spend time with you and our children and watch them grow, it makes me feel so fulfilled. Now part of that is I like to spend alone time with you fiancée and I don't think I have adequately kissed you today" he says eyes twinkling looking at her lips. "Well you better fix that fiancée" she flirts and with that their lips meet in explosion of feelings. Nathan slowly and reluctantly pulls back and they just bask in each other's arms. He asks "Elizabeth have you thought about a wedding". "Nathan how would you feel if we just enjoyed being engaged for a couple of weeks and talk about it after Christmas. We will both be pretty busy in the next couple of weeks and I need to finish my book by the end of the year." Elizabeth says Nathan says "That's fine with me my love I completely agree." Raising his eyebrows he said "And how did that thought go with Rosemary?" Elizabeth laughs and says "Even Rosemary is busy until after Christmas, but I am sure she will corner me on Jan 1st". "Let's just enjoy us and the holidays for now" Nathan says.
Nathan tells Elizabeth his mother and aunt are going to Cape Fullerton for a while, but will be back for Christmas. She asks "How do you feel about that Nathan?" He says "We agreed not to go overboard and we will try to keep it simple. Elizabeth laughed and said "Good luck with that, I think your Christmas will not be as simple as previous years." Nathan grabs her and says "As long as I have you I will be fine."
They decide to go the following week-end for the trees and include Jack this year. Nathan insists it will be fun, new memories for all and don't forget Jack's birthday. In their conversation he mentions Victoria Carter being with Hickam at the Christmas stroll meeting. Elizabeth warns "Don't let Rosemary hear this she will be matchmaking." They know the week will busy getting things together for the Christmas stroll. With one last kiss Nathan leaves to go home to Allie.
