Obsession

He held her hand, trying to calm her fears as she cried silently beside him. She was shaking and helplessly, not knowing what else he could do, he wrapped an arm around her shoulder and spoke soft words meant to soothe, words he remembered his own parents whispering to him in the middle of the night as a terrified child.

In the other room, his partner was directing the crime scene unit, collecting prints, taking pictures, looking for clues. He wanted to be in there, wanted anything but to watch his closest friend cry and shaking, drowning in fear. Sighing, Kouga wished desperately for anything to make her stop crying.

"Why won't he leave me alone Kouga?" she asked softly, pulling him out of his own depressing thoughts.

He closed his eyes and shook his head. "People like him aren't all there Kagome," he said quietly. "They think like a child who can't share and like an adult, strong enough to make sure they don't have to. He's obsessed with you because he sees in you something that calls to him, the way yōki summons purity and vice versa."

"I don't-" she stopped and turned wide, terrified blue eyes to the open door.

Kouga followed her glance and his own narrowed. What the hell was someone like him doing in a place like this?! Unable to help himself he stood and took a threatening step forward, unaware that behind him, Kagome had curled further into herself on the couch.
