30 Days Drabble - 28 (Written by Originals143)
: An Unusual Date :
.
The team has gathered in the forensic lab to know the analysis of the dead body lying before them, when Tarika's phone beeps with a message: 'Meet me at the terrace in five minutes. Don't tell anyone.' Thankfully, her phone is on a vibrating mode, so the tone goes unheard by everyone else.
It's from her boyfriend who has just exited the lab after the head of their department sends him off on an investigation-related task. Trying to maintain a normal face, she quickly puts the phone back in her coat and excuses herself on the pretext of using the washroom.
When she reaches the terrace, as expected, he is waiting for her with a broad smile on his face, and a look in his eyes which she knows too well for her own good.
"Abhijeet? I thought ACP sir sent you off to gather some evidence?," she enquires, shuddering slightly as the cool breeze teases her bare shoulders.
"Yeah, he did," answers Abhijeet.
"Then what are we doing here?," asks the forensic doctor.
The senior inspector takes a moment to stare at his girlfriend, the way her curls dance with the mild rhythm of the wind, the way her faces carries that tinge of blush that he knows is because of seeing him, and the way her eyes reflect the aftermath of the setting sun in the sky above them.
He takes slow steps towards her and places a soft kiss on her lips. "Happy Valentine's Day!," he whispers in her ear, his hands gently placing themselves on her waist.
The forensic doctor's lips curve up in an expression halfway between a smile and a blush, while the warm hues of the sunset mingle with the redness of her cheeks. To Abhijeet, there's hardly anything more mesmerizing than the vision before his eyes, and he silently thanks the Almighty for allowing him to witness it.
"Abhijeet! We already wished each other on the call!," says Tarika with a coy look, still unable to control her blush.
"Yeah! But I wanted to see you. I know we can't go out tonight, but I still wanted to arrange a date for you, even if it's for five minutes," he says, tucking a few of her loose curls behind her ear. They aren't troubling her face anymore, but he still loves doing it.
The arrival of the dusk now shimmers in her eyes as she looks at him. "This is much more romantic and precious than any other fancy date," she says, smiling through the affection that threatens to drip from her eyes. The sharp shooter smiles back with the same fervor.
If they could, Abhijeet would drown himself in her eyes, and Tarika would pull him in a tight hug with all she has and never let him go. But their time is up and their work demands attention.
As they both leave the terrace, they go about their respective jobs with their hearts full of bliss and warmth.
