Series 2, Episode 64 ~ House of Whispers

Nina and Fabian gave Alfie and Camilla odd looks as they came into the house and rushed up the stairs. Noticing the two were having some kind of mock sword fight in the hallway with feathers, but neither of the two honestly wanted to question them as to why. They had more important things to think about; mainly getting the Cup of Ankh from Vera's room somehow.

As the two raced up to the girl's hallway they saw the woman in question leaving her room. "Eh, going out, eh Vera?" Fabian asked her, knowing it wasn't the most subtle way to broach the subject but he had opened his mouth so let's see where it led. Spontaneity always worked out for Camilla maybe this once it would work for him.

Vera looked at him slightly oddly but answered his question, "I'll be back before dinner time." She told the pair with a kind smile before it dropped and a serious look crossed her face, "don't get into any trouble," with that she moved past them both and out the hallway.

Fabian glanced down at Nina who was looking at him already with a small smile, the same thought clearly flitting through their heads. If Vera was out that meant they could get access to the cup.

"Vera's gone out," Nina spoke quietly.

"Let's get the cup," Fabian told the girl.

The pair snuck up to the attic bedroom. Fabian grimacing slightly as he looked around it properly. The whole place looked so much creepier as a bedroom than it did an attic. "this place still looks like an attic," he told Nina who had rushed over to the secret area of the wall she had hidden the cup in.

The girl putting her locket to the wall and taking the cup out of the secret panel, looking at the cup with a frown, "I don't see a falcon symbol..." she told Fabian as she turned the cup upside down in case it was on the bottom but still nothing.

Fabian let out a frustrated groan as Nina sighed. Their hopes of having two reflectors dashed just like that. "oh great."

"I don't get it," Nina told him in confusion, "the chart said a cup and an Ankh."

"But wait, the ankh is the symbol for medicine," Fabian told her, causing Nina to look back at him blankly as unlike Camilla she didn't have a twin telepathic link nor did she have the same Egyptian knowledge as the twins though she was trying to catch up. "so, is it talking about some kind of medicinal goblet?" Fabian suggested.

Nina let out a sigh as she realised that what the boy was saying was probably true. Before she could say anything to him the downstairs door to the attic could be heard shutting causing both their heads to whip around. They soon wouldn't be alone up there.

"Someones coming." Fabian grabbed Nina's arm and dragged her over to the wardrobe space so they could hide behind the cloth curtains without being caught.

They had both assumed it was Vera coming back in and when Jerome entered the room, looking shifty, the two looked at one another in surprise. What was he up too?

Jerome went to the standing wardrobe first opening it and looking unhappy to see nothing but clothes inside it. He turned on his heel and looked around the room, his eyes landed on the cloth curtains and he started to make his way towards them when suddenly the same sound of the downstairs door was heard and the boy went scurrying under the bed to hide.

This time Vera did come into the room, her phone ringing as she did. "speak." She told whoever was on the other end of the phone as she sat herself down on the bed. "I see, well," she sighed deeply clearly whatever news she had been told wasn't good news. "things have gone from bad to worse. Victor's lost the amulet thanks to that infuriating Rutter girl."

Her words caused Fabian to grip onto the curtains tightly in anger, how dare someone talk about his sister that way. from under the bed, Jerome's fists had clenched too at the woman's words for similar reasons.

"she destroyed it." Vera rolled her eyes at whatever was said in response to this. "what about you? Well, you have to keep pushing," she told whoever was on the other end with a fond smile. "I'll worry about Victor and the infuriating Rutter girl till you can deal with her yourself. In the meantime, her foolish friends can do the rest."

There was a pause as Nina and Fabian both turned to one another in realisation; Camilla had been right. Victor wasn't the bad guy they had to worry about after all.

"Don't worry I have the measure of this household. Soon they will all be dancing to our tune." With that Vera hung up the phone, not knowing three students had overheard her little villain reveal and two of them were fuming at her words. She rummaged under her bed and Jerome all but threw a jumper at her before she left, clearly to go into town like she had told Fabian and Nina.

Jerome was the first to his feet, clambering out from under the bed, pulling down his blazer jacket so it sat right again.

Fabian watched the boy curiously seeing the same anger and worry he felt all over the boy's face. Camilla's feelings for the boy had caused him to watch him a little closer. He was not happy with the girl's choice of crush at all – but no boy would ever be worthy of his sister in his mind. Though compared to Alfie he had to admit to himself Jerome was a closer match than the jokester. There was the slight issue of the boy's weird obsession with Mara, a girl he hadn't batted an eyelid at until the girl was taken by Mick – the most popular boy in school. Fabian knew it was a case of Jerome wanted what he couldn't have but he was very worried that the boy might hurt his sister without even meaning too. That was until he saw the look on the boy's face now. Jerome cared for Camilla and perhaps Amber was right, he was simply using this crush on Mara as an excuse to deny the true feelings he had for Camilla.

Jerome left the room and Nina broke Fabian out of his thought bubble as she pushed open the curtain and stepped into Vera's room pulling the male twin with her. "what was he doing?" Nina asked pointing to the door Jerome had just left.

"Camilla was right, she is the enemy," Fabian told Nina who frowned slightly but nodded her head. On this occasion, the constant insistence that Vera was their real bad guy from Camilla seemed to have been true.

"at least we know they aren't working together," Nina added with a sigh, "but Fabian it sounds like she is onto us."

"and Camilla is in danger," Fabian added Nina looking at him as worry washed over his face, knowing that was the real worry in his mind. At the end of the day if he had to choose between an old mask and his sister the two in the attic knew at that moment Fabian would choose his sister – leaving Nina unsure of how to compute that information.

Nina looked around blinking fast as she held back some tears, "this place is giving me the creeps, let's get out of here." Fabian nodded his head, he needed to see Camilla he needed to see she was safe.

"Whoa," Camilla coughed slightly as Fabian came racing down the stairs and hugged her tightly to him, "why am I getting squeezed?"

Camilla glanced to Nina who was stood halfway down the stairs, watching the pair with sad eyes, "we need to tell you guys something. Now."

Fabian let go of his sister, but grabbed her hand and all but dragged her up the stairs causing Camilla to glance at Alfie who was watching on with a bemused smile before following the pair. From the sounds of Nina's tone whatever they had to say was serious.

Amber was sat at her vanity, laptop open so she could pretend to be doing homework if Vera came in but when in reality, she was trying out new hairstyles. She glanced up as Nina, Alfie, Camilla and Fabian walked in. Camilla looking a little forlorn and Fabian kept glancing at Camilla as she sat down on her bed as if she was about to disappear at any minute.

"Cam?" Amber spoke up as Alfie sat himself down on her bed, Nina settling herself on her's and Fabian sitting on Cam's desk chair next to his sister. Amber turned for the unofficial Sibuna meeting – all of them knowing they'd have to catch Patricia up later but she was in a website meeting and thanks to Joy taking over as chief she had to go to every meeting.

"Hmm?"

"Everything okay?" she asked her best friend.

Camilla smiled at her friend before rubbing her nose slightly, "I'm fine... look, I'm smiling," she sent her friend a smile but knew from the raised eyebrow Amber didn't believe her.

Fabian glanced to his sister as Camilla looked at him, the two knowing in an instant that neither of them were okay though neither twin knew why the other was okay.

"I'm sorry I'm late, I assumed you'd all be in here," Patricia bustled in breaking the silence that had fallen after Camilla's answer. "Joy and that website are going to be the deal of me."

This caused some laughter as Patricia sat down on Nina's bed.

"Are you really okay?" Fabian whispered to his sister.

"I can pretend to be," She told him honestly, unsure of how she was to explain to Fabian the feelings she felt. Victor was disappointed in her and wouldn't look her in the eye and it stung to her core.

Nina saw Fabian's worried expression and the whispered conversation the twin's hand and decided she'd be the one to speak up, so she did, explaining what she had Fabian had overheard Vera said: "guys, the worst news is the cup is not a reflector." She concluded.

"Aww! Here I thought the only bad news was Vera." Patricia groaned.

"Cam always knew she was evil," Amber spoke up looking to her best friend.

"Do not blame me when I find this an extremely appropriate time to tell you all; I told you so." Camilla teased a small hint of a smile on her face as they had all finally had to admit that the woman was bad news and Victor was on their side.

"Mara also said it, and she was right!" Amber added looking around at them all, "and they put her on trial for it! I say we get even."

"she defiantly said we'd do the rest?"

"and she defiantly called us foolish?"

Nina and Fabian looked to one another. Nina had purposefully missed out the whole Camilla dealt with bit knowing Fabian probably didn't want his sister to know she had yet another death threat.

"what does all this even mean?"

"that we're stupid, obviously," Amber told Patricia in confusion.

"no..." Patricia rolled her eyes, "I mean, does she know about the tunnels."

Nina also added, "or worse does she want what we want?"

"I'm assuming yes to all those things because the bitch is the bad guy." Hearing she was right about Vera all along had really lightened the mood for the girl and she knew her 'I told you so' attitude wasn't helping the situation she was allowing herself to bask at the moment just a little.

"who was she talking too?" Fabian asked softly, causing a sad smile to fall onto Nina's face as the two shared a look. The who was the person threatening Camilla, that's what mattered to Fabian.

"How does she even know any of this?!" Amber demanded.

Alfie laughed slightly at Ambers question causing the blonde to look at him, "well we're not exactly subtle guys. We," he gestured between himself and Camilla, "smashed an amulet with a high heel, in front of six people at a dinner party!"

"and who moved the dollhouse?" Patricia also asked them all, "Victor or Vera."

"Vera... duh." Though she might not be in his good books Camilla was still going to fight for the good in Victor no matter what.

"Well... look," Fabian looked up at them all, suddenly they where being backed into a corner and he knew that meant they needed to start to fight back. They were getting more and more information which would make that easier, in theory, now they knew who they had to look out for. "we just have to be more careful."

They all nodded in agreement. They hadn't taken Camilla's threats seriously or even bothered to look into Vera as a bad guy and now she had tripped them up so close to the finishing line. They needed to keep their eyes open.

"so, is there any good news?" Patricia asked hoping there was something for them.

"yes," Fabian nodded his head looking to the goth pixie. "we have the amulet with Horus and we can try the secret door. We should go down tonight."

"long live the king, let him show us his secrets," Camilla laughed slightly causing Alfie to pick up one of Amber's pick heart cushions and throw it at her causing the Sibuna's to laugh.

"Nothing ever happens here like you imagine it will in this house," Nina spoke as she and Camilla waited outside their room that evening for Patricia and Amber (who needed to find her secret door shoes – whatever they were).

"It keeps it fun I guess."

"Can I ask you something?" Nina looked to her protector who was leaning against the wall with her eyes shut, Jerome's orange jumper on top of her shorts, which made it look rather like a dress though both girls knew she had a t-shirt of Alfie's on underneath she'd somehow borrowed.

"you just did."

Nina scoffed and rolled her eyes, "what's going on with you and Jerome?"

Camilla opened one of her eyes and looked at Nina confused to where the question had come from. Nina looked nervous; she was playing with the sleeves of her own jumper. "nothing is happening with us, why?"

"I see the way you two-act. You're like best friend who are in love..." Nina trailed off and looked up at Camilla, "I know about how you feel about him, I just... can we trust him."

Camilla stood up straighter and thought about Nina's question. This wasn't some girl chat about crushes this was her Chosen One asking her as her Protector a question. "Jerome has always had his own agenda... but when the time comes, he always makes the right choice."

"So, you trust him."

"with my life."

Nina looked at Camilla and nodded her head slightly. "why are you still being so nice to me, I've been an utter bitch to you this year,"

"because I can understand why you reacted the way you did," Camilla told her honestly with a sigh. "I am not keeping you out of the loop to be a bitch, but to protect you, you have enough on your plate to be worrying about my little side projects. Fabian knows because he is my twin."

"And Amber?" Nina whispered trying to understand why her protector would choose Amber over her in knowing a secret.

"I don't know, it just felt right she'd know. Amber's a light in the madness of this new world we've been thrust into for me. A true friend. A sister." Camilla shrugged slightly, "it felt the gods needed her to know to."

Nina nodded her head slightly and their conversation came to an end as the two girls they where waiting for emerged from their bedrooms with smiles.

"you've got to look on the bright side," Amber spoke up as they reached the task chamber, "at least Victor didn't make the two of you dust down here," She teased Alfie and Camilla who glowered at her slightly.

"This better work," Alfie mumbled.

"Fabian... you need to do it," Camilla spoke up causing everyone to look at her, "gut feeling."

"I think she's right, at least for this first initial opening..." Nina trailed off looking to Camilla. Something about her words felt right. Like it had to be Fabian who opened this door.

Fabian glanced at the two girls before taking the amulet off Nina and placing it into the groove in the wall. It glowed a bright yellow colour before the same old mechanism sound they all had been hearing for the doors in the tunnels could be heard and with a grinding noise the door slid away to reveal more tunnel, though this first tunnel was a tight squeeze only allowing one person to walk at a time.

"its another tunnel..." Fabian tried not to sound annoyed causing Camilla to hit him across the head causing a laugh from Patricia.

"Huh good, because we, eh, haven't got enough of those," Alfie added for Fabian as he pointed his torch inside.

"yeah, mix it up a bit Frobisher!" Amber put her opinion causing an eye roll from Camilla as she pushed past them all to enter the tunnel. All of them letting her due to her rule; she enters first so they can all walk out alive.

"where is your sense of adventure... let's see where this thing leads!" she told them before turning and heading into the darkness.

"Should we leave string or breadcrumbs or something?" Patricia asked once the tunnel opened up so they could walk about the five of them together than simply singe file.

Fabian glanced to Camilla as she stopped walking and titled her head, causing the boy to copy her actions and clock onto what his sister had heard. There were muted voices coming from somewhere. "Shh..." he told them all. The other's stopped as they too could heard the muffled sounds of an argument. "I think we might be near the end," Fabian told them all excitedly, before rushing ahead. Camilla waited until she was at the back, looking up at the area she heard voices before following her friends.

They turned a corner and saw a vent in the wall, a vent that was oddly familiar but Camilla had no clue why. Though she didn't have time to think about that as the persons behind the voices she heard was revealed. Jerome and Jasper.

"Please Jerome!" Jasper begged, "you know what's at stake here."

"What are they?" Fabian asked softly turning to look at his sister who shrugged, something was going on and it involved their uncle.

"Okay, if that's what you want," Jerome spoke up.

Breakfast Sibuna meetings where Camilla's favourite kind of Sibuna meeting; mainly because they had tea and food. All of them fell silent as Mara, Eddie and Joy walked into the kitchen, Fabian grabbing his black coffee as Camilla grabbed her tea and the two mirrored each other as they took a drink much to the amusement of Patricia who watched them both from the opposite side of the table – it had been a while since they had had weird twin moments like that but when they happened she always found them highly amusing especially seeing as she and Piper did them all the time at home purposefully to annoy their parents.

"of course, the secret tunnel leads to the library," Fabian continued their conversation in a whisper.

"The entrance to the tunnel system is Thoth," - Camilla added for her brother.

"-the Egyptian god for knowledge," Fabian concluded with a smile at his twin who was happy to return it.

"I prefer to call it a dead end," Alfie pipped up ruining the twins little celebratory bubble with one sentence.

"Yeah, wake me up when we find an amulet for the god of shopping," Amber agreed with Alfie.

"Guys at least it's given us a place to hide the cup," Nina shrugged trying to think of one positive for the let down the secret door was.

"What do we do now?" Patricia asked as she kept one eye on the kitchen and one eye on her fellow Sibuna's.

"We focus back on finding the other reflectors, we should stake out the dollhouse. Maybe Sarah will finally have a clue for us."

"god of knowledge..." Fabian mumbled as Nina told them her somewhat weak plan. "this has only led to more questions," Fabian groaned slightly, "what was Jasper doing talking to Jerome?" he asked the worry he knew Camilla felt too leaking into his voice causing Camilla to reach under the table and grab his hand. Fabian clinging to it like it was a lifeline.

Unlike Camilla he didn't have another father figure, Jasper was that father-like figure to him. Jasper was his godfather. He didn't want something to happen to the man.

"I'm sure he's not the enemy..." Nina tried to reassure the twins.

"But what if he is?" Camilla asked her bluntly, knowing Fabian didn't want to hear it but after the big Vera reveal who could they trust.

"He lied to us," Fabian spoke up his voice quivering.

"he didn't lie to you, he just..." Nina paused to think over her words, "hasn't told you."

"that's not the same thing..."

With the twins being slightly on edge they were staying together where they could. Both of them whereby Fabian's locker as the speaker system in school came blaring to life. Within seconds of hearing the two voices on the other end the twin's glance to one another knowing whatever was about to happen, it wasn't good.

"I just want you to tell me stuff," Came Patricia's voice loud and clear, "I think I should know you kissed my twin, or I don't know Eddie, the fact Sweetie is your dad." The twin's eyes widened as they realised Patricia had just outed Eddie's big secret.

"Eddie... oh gods..." Camilla whispered, her hand going over her mouth.

"Go," Fabian mumbled as he shut his locker door, "I'll do damage control here, Eddie needs you."

Camilla nodded her head and rushed towards Sweetie's office, elbowing classmates out of the way as Patricia and Eddie came from the office. The boy looking around as people started laughing at him. He turned back to the office and saw something, something that caused realisation to wash over his face. His secret now wasn't a secret.

"Well if it isn't Sweetie Jr." Alfie teased moving forward to grab Eddie's cheek like a baby.

"Eddie, come on..." his head whipped back around at the small voice and he found Camilla at the front of the crowd. Unlike everyone around her, she was looking at him with sympathy. This wasn't Patricia's secret to tell and she just told everyone.

Eddie nodded his head and glaring at Patricia before he shuffled forward and approached the girl. Camilla looping her arm in his and dragging him from the laughing crowd glaring angrily at anyone who dared to step in their way. All of the Anubis housemates who knew of her magic instantly stepping back as they saw lights flickering. Camilla was not playing around she was protecting her friend. And gods help anyone who stood in her way.
