Until the End
Ezra was concentrating. He had his arms wrapped around Sabine while trying to enter her mind. This was a nightmare like none he'd ever seen. All he could sense was pure sadness and pain. From what, he did not know. Ezra knew his wife needed him, so he began to focus on the force. After a few minutes, he was able to project his consciousness into her mind.
"Sabine?" He called out, getting no response. He wandered through what he determined to be the streets Lothal City. He could see other people, but no Sabine. It was as if he was really standing there. As he continued to walk around, he heard a faint cry. Getting closer, he was able to determine it was Sabine crying. However, it was strange that she was here. It was on old bar on Lothal, one he had pick pocked from a lot when he was younger. Ezra walked slowly up to her and sat next to her. Using the Force, he could tell that Sabine was not consciously aware of his presence.
"Sabine?" He moved a hand to her shoulder, but she shrugged it off.
"What do you want?" She spat between sniffs.
He realized he would have to be patient, that this was no normal nightmare. It was a memory replaying in her mind. "I'm sorry, I thought you might like some company."
"Sure." She said sarcastically. "I would love to sit here with some stranger and divulge in my problems."
"Well, if it helps you feel better. I don't like seeing anyone sad."
"You remind me of a friend of mine. His name was Ezra." Sabine tapped her hand, ordering another shot of whatever she had been drinking. "He was always trying to help other people. Always putting himself before others."
"Seems like a nice guy."
"Yea, he was." She turned up another shot.
"Was? Is he gone?"
"I'm pretty sure he's dead. I mean, its been like 3 years. If he was gonna come back to me, don't you think he woulda done it by now?"
"Maybe he's marooned somewhere and can't come back." He paused, trying to read her emotions. "Were you too close?"
"Close is one word for it. We were best friends, and I knew I could trust him until the end." Sabine stopped and tears formed again. "I guess the end came too soon." She leaned over on a man she didn't know, even though it was Ezra.
Ezra was heartbroken for her. She had lost so much at that point that she was mentally broken. "I'm sure its not over yet. I… He will come back, I promise." He just held her as she sobbed.
"Maybe I should just end it. Join him in death. At least then I could tell him I loved him." She choked out.
"Don't say that. You two will be reunited one day. You just need to trust in the Force." He saw how many shots she had and helped her up. "Alright, time to go home."
"No, *Hicc* one more."
"Sabine, no."
"Fine."
Ezra took her back to the tower and laid her on the couch. He sat down next to her and she stared at him. She seemed to ponder who this person was that brought her here, not knowing that Ezra was in her dream.
"Who are you?"
"Sabine. If I told you, you wouldn't believe me." He let out a half-hearted chuckle.
"Tell me."
"Ezra, Ezra Bridger."
"That's not funny you ass." She went to get up but fell back on the cushion.
"I'm not lying Sabine. What you are experiencing right now, it is a dream. A memory that happened I am assuming before the Empire fell."
"I hasn't fallen dumbass. We are still *Hicc* fighting." Her words were getting more slurred.
"I will fall, in about 2 years." He thought about something before turning to her again. "I can prove I am Ezra."
"Ok, do it."
"The night on Atallon, when Kanan, Fenn Rau, and myself pledged ourselves to follow you. It was the only time you let anyone see you cry." He held her hand as she pondered. "I remember putting you in that position, back in the dome. When you had to let me go. I saw how heart broken you were. I hated myself for having to do that to you. The tears and the knowing look in your eyes."
"You are Ezra." She seemed astonished. Well as astonished as drunk person could be.
"Yes, my love. And this is all a dream. I can get you out, but you need to trust me." Ezra sat himself on the floor next to her on the couch.
"Ok."
"Close your eyes. Clear your mind of everything. Let the force flow through you." He held one hand on her head, and the other in hers. "Allow me to lead you out. I swear, I will be with you until the end."
Sabine shot up in the bed. Her body covered in sweat. She looked down to see Ezra looking up at her. Everything was so confusing. Last she knew she was having that dream again, next, she was with Ezra in the tower. Now she was here with him. "What happened?"
"You tell me, love. That was one hell of a dream." Ezra sat up next to her and held her again.
"It was a nightmare I have over and over again. Only this time, you were there." She looked up at him.
"Yes, I sensed your pain and decided to help. I entered your mind and got you out. I'm sorry I invaded your privacy."
"Don't be sorry, love. I needed you, then and now. You always save me when I need it, thank you." She leaned in on his chest and stayed there. "So, you can influence my dreams?"
"It was more of my consciousness interacting with yours in your mind. I know it seems strange, but that's the easiest way to explain it." He tried to make as much sense as he could.
"Alright, come on, lets go back to sleep." They laid down and Ezra started to doze off, not before she spoke up again. "Can you give me a happy dream?"
"Sure, love." Ezra smiled and concentrated as she fell asleep. He gave her the happiest moment he could remember, their wedding day.
