Chapter 66

Flashback

Pop's Diner

February 2017

Jason sat in a booth at Pop's by himself, waiting for Polly. His twin sister Cheryl was also there, hanging out with Tina and Ginger in a separate booth. Jason had texted Polly, asking her to meet him at the diner. They'd been dating for a while, but unfortunately, their respective parents disapproved of their relationship, and they tried with all their might to keep the young couple apart. Now, it had all come down to this: Jason's mother and father pressured their golden boy into ending his relationship with Polly and he gave in.

The door opens and the bell chimed, as Polly Cooper entered, bringing Jason out of his thoughts. The red head motions the blonde to come over and she walks over to him.

"Hi, baby," said Polly, smiling. She kisses Jason as he kisses her back, and sits down across from him.

"Hi," Jason replied.

"You wanted to see me?" Polly asked.

Jason exhales, nodding.

"There's something I have to tell you." He answered.

"Tell me," Polly replied.

"This isn't working out for me anymore," said Jason.

Polly scoffs slightly, thinking he's joking.

"Yeah, me neither," She leans over and kisses him on the lips; however, he doesn't kiss her back like he did the first time. Polly pulls away.

"What's wrong?" She asked, concerned.

"It's not you, it's me. I'm completely fucked up." Jason responded.

"What do you say?" Polly questioned.

Jason looks away and gets up, his back turned to her. Polly gets up from the table and walks up to him, waiting for a response.

"I thought I was in love with you, but it was just a lie." Jason finally answered. "I wanted it to work, but unfortunately I feel nothing."

"Why are you doing this?" Polly questioned, frowning. "Is this about our parents and the fact that they hate each other?"

"No," Jason lied; a look of sadness forming on his face. He hated to break Polly's heart, but what choice did he have? "I just wanted to see what you were like in bed."

"Now, you don't mean that," Polly said.

Jason finally faces her.

"You know nothing," He retorted, his words hinted with sharpness. "You don't even know me."

"The fact of the matter is there is someone I love, you don't even compare to her."

Polly just stared at him in disbelief, shaking her head.

"I don't believe you," She said in denial. "I'm betting your parents put you up to this. Didn't they?" Her voice started to gain sharpness.

Deep down, Jason knew she is right. But nevertheless, he kept up the façade under pressure and more hurtful words came out of his mouth.

"I don't know how to make this any clearer to you," Jason shot back, feigning frustration. "You mean nothing to me. You were just…you, you were just a conquest." His voice began to break and he even started shaking.

"You're such a coward, look at yourself shaking." Polly retorted, not buying it. Tears are threatening to come.

"Therefore, you wanted me to come, to tell me?" She demanded, her voice cracking.

"I'm sorry, okay." Jason said.

"Yeah, you're completely fucked up." Polly snapped, her voice getting a bit louder and drawing attention from people in the diner (including Cheryl, Ginger and Tina).

Finally, her emotions got the better of her, and Polly began to cry.

"Get out," She said, her voice dangerously soft. "Get out of my life!" The cheerleader's voice grew.

Jason suddenly felt remorse for what he had said to her. He approaches Polly and tried to comfort her, but she wouldn't have it.

"Don't touch me," Polly commanded, slapping away Jason's hand. "Don't touch me. Don't fucking touch me, Jason!"

And the next thing she knew, Polly slapped the jock, stunning him. Everyone's attention was now on Riverdale's own Romeo & Juliet, and they all looked shocked.

Polly stared at Jason, tears rolling down her face. Finally, she walks away, storming out of Pop's and slamming the door behind her, feeling broken-hearted.

Jason stood there, watching Polly leave with a look of longing, wanting to go after her and tell her that he really loved her. But he felt helpless, stuck like glue.

Cheryl, who watched the drama unfold between her brother and his now ex-girlfriend, with her minions; smiled in satisfaction.

"I can't tell you how relieved I am now that my dear brother has finally dropped that wretched social liability. All that is left now is to banish that season five Betty Draper sister of hers, and the dreaded Hags Cooper will be vanquished at last." She said to the other two Vixens in a voice, low enough for Jason not to hear.

Later, when Polly came home on Elm Street, she informed her parents that Jason dumped her. Hal and Alice couldn't be more thrilled.

"Sweetheart, you have no idea how glad your father and I are, now that you're no longer dating that Blossom boy." Alice said in a condescending tone. "Besides, he is not for you anyway…"

"I don't want to hear it, Mom!" Polly snapped angrily. "You and Dad are so wrapped up in your stupid vendetta against the Blossoms, you don't even care about my happiness. All you care about is shoving down this psychotic, perfect suburban family act down my throat. So, shut up and leave me alone!"

Alice and Hal just stood there, stunned by their daughter's outburst. Polly went upstairs to her room and slammed the door loudly.

"She'll get over it, eventually." Hal said, breaking the silence.

"Hopefully," Alice added.

From then on, following the break up, Jason and Polly avoided one another at school. Despite the gossip from the student body and Cheryl's bragging about her twin demising his relationship with the eldest Cooper, Polly kept her head high and focused on her studies and cheerleading. Alas, the separation between our Bulldog football captain and Vixen cheerleader won't last very long…

A/N: And I hoped you enjoyed the drama of it, as well as my take with Jason and Polly's break up. I kind of modeled it after the break up scene in Cruel Intentions (1999). If you all haven't seen that movie, go check it out. And to clear things up, I do not own Cruel Intentions. Any other dialogue I just made up.

Anyways, we're almost near the end of the 1x03 storyline and getting close to the start of 1x04. More to come!
