Chapter 52
Arizona's P.O.V:
It's been a week since Callie and I looked at the house. I admit, we both fell in love with it, but it was more than what we originally planned on spending. Yes, I can really see us spending our lives there, but I couldn't help but feel a little uneasy about the whole thing. I was interrupted from my thoughts at the sound of the office phone ringing.
"Torres Records?" I answer.
"Hi, Mrs. Torres, this is George O'Malley. How are you doing today?" asks the male on the other end.
"Ah, yes, George. I'm great thank you. What can I do for you today?" I ask him.
"Well, Mrs. Torres, I was just calling to tell you, you got the house. Congratulations! The owners gladly accepted your offer. I mean, they were a little surprised when the offer was more than the original price, but they accepted it. So, the house is yours. Would you be able to come in and do all the final paperwork tomorrow? Let's say, at 4 o'clock?" What offer?
"Umm..yeah, sure. We will be there." I tell him, sounding a little dumbfounded. "Thanks, George. Have a great day yourself, bye." After getting off the phone with George, I couldn't help but feel a little angry. How much did Callie offer them? and why didn't she say anything to me? Then going behind my back and actually buying the house instead of taIking to me like she said she would. I mean, I did ask her about it but all she said was she put in an offer, which was less than the asking price. Not being able to take anymore, I got up from my seat and made my way to the tech booth. I gave a slight knock, before walking in. I didn't want to just barge in and them being in the middle of something.
"Come in," Came Doug's voice. Poking my head in, I greeted Doug and my wife.
"Hey babe, come to check out the..."
"Callie, can I talk to you?" I asked, cutting her off.
"Yeah sure," She says, "Doug can you...?"
"Yeah, I got it." She got up from her seat and followed me out to the hall.
"What's up? You okay?" she asks me.
"The realtor called," I tell her, folding my arms.
"Oh..did we get it?" she asks, a smile forming on her face.
"Yeah, we got it. But that's not why I wanted to talk to you."
"Then what? I thought you would be happy,"
"You offered more than the asking price?" I ask sternly.
"What? No, I didn't. I offered lower than the asking price,"
"Well apparently you didn't. Because George said that the owners accepted the offer. He also said they were a little surprised by it, but the offer was more than the asking price."
"Arizona, I didn't place an offer above the asking price, I swear." She tells me. Looking deep in her eyes, I couldn't tell if she was actually telling the truth or not.
"Well, apparently you did. or someone did." I say a little harshly. "I thought you said you were going to talk to him about it, place the offer, then we would talk?"
"I did. I told you after I got back in the car. I even called my Dad after you took Noah back out to..wait.." She stops mid sentence.
"What?"
"My dad," She says.
"What about your dad?" I ask her. But she doesn't answer, instead she pulls her phone out and dials a number, then puts it on speakerphone.
"Ah, Calliope, I've been waiting for your call.." Mr. Torres says on the other line.
"Hey Dad, I was just wondering..Arizona got a call from George, our realtor,"
"Ah, yes, I'm guessing they accepted the offer?"
"Yeah, they did. But what did you do?" I heard her ask.
"What makes you think I did something?" He asks, chuckling.
"Dad, seriously, what did you do? I told you what my offer was, then Arizona tells me that it's more than the asking price? So again, what did you do?"
"Okay, okay, I may have changed the offer," He tells her. "I just thought maybe I could secretly give them a reasonable offer they couldn't refuse, then secretly buy the house for you. You know, as a wedding gift,"
My mouth nearly fell to the floor. A wedding gift? How did he know we got married? We hadn't told anyone else, not even Addison. Only ones that knew were Tim and Teddy.
I also couldn't help but laugh at the look on Callie's face. It's the look a child has when they get caught with their hands in the cookie jar. "Wait, you bought the house for us? As a gift? How did you even know we got married?" I heard my wife ask.
"I have my ways, Calliope. Don't get me wrong, I was a little hurt to hear my youngest daughter got married without telling me, but I wanted to do something nice for both of you,"
"Yeah, I'm sorry about that Dad, it was kind of a last minute decision,"She lies.
"You don't have to explain anything. I just hope you will gladly accept this so we can get the paperwork taken care of. When are you suppose to be meeting the realtor to sign the papers?"
"Tomorrow," I tell him. "We're suppose to meet him at 4:30 tomorrow,"
"Perfect! Well I will see you both tomorrow to get this squared away and have a check ready for them," What?
"Yeah, we will see you tomorrow, Dad. Love you too. Bye." After Callie hung up the phone, I just stared at her in disbelief.
"What?" She asks, "Don't look at me like that. I had nothing to do with this,"
"I can't believe this is happening, Callie."
"Can't believe what? That we got the house?"
"Not just that, but.." I couldn't even get the words out. My mind was a little frazzled by the conversation Callie just had with her dad.
"But what, Babe?"
"Nothing. I guess were moving," I say, smiling at my wife.
"I guess we are," She says, leaning in for a kiss.
"Wait.." I say, "I thought he went back to Miami?"
*I know it's kind of short, and a little boring I apologize. I was losing my train of thought lol But..Callie's Dad decided to buy the home for them instead. Think he overstepped?*
