Chapter 43
'Oh my God! LEXIE!' Amber screamed as her orgasm hit her. She sunk back on the couch with Lexie still on top of her. They were still both fully dressed. They were so worked up from the evening's events that Lexie tackled Amber onto the couch as soon as they stepped into the house.
Callie and Arizona ran out of the room. They were dead asleep and confused as hell when they woke up to the screaming from the living room. 'Wha…What is happening? Are you ok?' Arizona asked. She had not woken up fully and had not fully registered what she had just walked in on.
Callie was a bit quicker to take in the situation, and saw where Lexie's hand was. 'Um… I think they are ok, Sweetie.' she said smirking.
Arizona looked again and saw it. 'Oh God!' Lexie removed her hand and they both sat up. 'You guys couldn't wait to get upstairs?' Arizona asked.
'Hell no!… You should have seen my girl. She was a fucking boss! She put that bitch in her place and she went running. It was amazing. I should have pulled my phone out. I should have recorded it. It was incredible.' Lexie rambled out.
'What?' Callie and Arizona were very confused.
'Liza was at Joe's.' Amber said.
Flashback
'Liza… what do you want?' Amber asked, glaring at the other woman.
'I just wanted to rub it in your face. I won. I fucking won.' Liza sneered.
'Won what? What the hell do I have to compete against you for?'
'I got him. He's mine. ALL mine.'
'Good for you Liza. You got a cheating bastard for a boyfriend. Good for you. I'm so happy for you.'
'You don't understand, you low down, good for nothing bitch. I GOT him. Married him. He…is…mine! I… fucking… won.' Liza said with gritted teeth as she got in Amber's face. She turned to leave the restroom.
The door had almost completely shut before Amber yanked it back open. 'LIZA!' she yelled. The bar got quiet as all eyes turned to see what the commotion was about. An eerie calm came over her when she opened her mouth to speak with the other woman. 'I'M the low down, good for nothing bitch? That's what you think?… Fair enough. You think what you want to think. But you winning?… no. You lost… You lost all self respect when you started an affair with a man already involved in a relationship. A man, who will cheat on you, because he had no problems cheating on me. A man who abandoned his children and will more than likely have no problem with abandoning your son. If you think that you have a winner than way to go! I commend you, but I think you are a piece of shit. The both of you. You may have gotten the 'man' but I got a lot more. I have a village. See this woman here? This is Lexie, my girlfriend. SHE has been there for me. SHE has been there for my kids. SHE will be beside me cheering on my kids when they are playing sports, or winning the spelling bee or whatever they choose to do. It will be her. You see that man over there? That's Jackson. He has my back. Always has. If I need him, guess what, he'll be there for me. That woman standing next to him, that's Maggie. One of the best heart surgeons in Washington and one of the nicest people I know. Those two over there, Stephanie and Jo. Two of the most promising residents at the hospital. Two of the most amazing women I have had the pleasure of meeting… Callie, my best friend. A woman who breaks bones for a living… someone who has been by my side since med school. Arizona, YOUR man's own cousin, who, hey guess what, is sitting at my house right now and playing with my children because she would rather stand by my side than her good-for-nothing cousin. Then there's the people who aren't in this room…Teddy, Meredith, Derek, Addison, Nicole, Amelia, Alex, the Chief…the list goes on, Liza. These people I trust with my life. Some of them responsible for actually saving my life, the lives of my children. Hell, I trust them like my own flesh and blood. I have a village Liza, what do YOU have? A man who will make you think that you are the most important person in his whole world. A man who makes you believe that he loves you and will do ANYTHING for you. Then the calls start coming in less and less, and he has to go somewhere else all of a sudden and can't make it home when he said he was going to be. He can't answer your calls because he's asleep somewhere at two in the afternoon. The truck will break down suddenly or he will have a flat tire. He will always have an excuse, Liza. But he will have you right where he wants you, eating out of the palm of his hand, sitting at home…Being a good little wife. Manipulating you. And you won't have aaaaaany idea it's happening. So let me ask you now. Have you really won? The look on your face right now says those things have already started happening. Now, I suggest you leave this bar right now because me and my village don't really want you here.' Amber said. Everyone shifted themselves to stand behind Amber. They were indeed a village.
Liza looked at everyone in the bar. She opened her mouth to speak, but no words would come out. She turned and ran out of the bar causing the entire room to cheer.
'Next round is on the house!' the bartender yelled.
'That felt really good.' Amber said turning to Lexie. Lexie had a fire lit in her big brown eyes.
'We need to get home…Now.' she said dragging Amber out of the bar. She got them into her car and sped off.
End of Flashback
'Way to go Am! I would have loved to see that!' Callie said when they finished telling the story.
'Absolutely. I can't believe she thought she had the upper hand at all… They're married though? How do you feel?'
'Apparently they got married… I feel fine. I have everything I need under this roof.' Amber said.
'And we… are going to bed.' Lexie said. Amber could still see the fire blazing in her eyes.
'And we are going to bed.' Amber repeated looking at the other women in the room.
The two started making their way upstairs leaving Callie and Arizona in the living room. 'I think we should head home. I don't want to hear what they are going to do to each other.' Callie said. Arizona nodded and they were packed and out the door within minutes, locking the door behind them.
It was a few days later, Amber and Callie were eating lunch when the Chief walked up to them. 'Dr. Mitchell. I have a letter for you.' He handed Amber a certified letter and walked away.
'That looks pretty serious.' Callie said as Amber was tearing into the envelope. She scanned the papers inside and placed them on the table. 'Woooow. That is sooo fucked up.' she said barely above a whisper.
Callie picked up the papers and read the first line. 'This letter is to inform Dr. Amber Marie Mitchell that Tyler David Robbins has absolved all parental rights to the minor children Maci Lucia Robbins and Riley Isaiah Robbins.'
Callie looked into her friend's eyes. She saw the anger in her eyes. She reached out and grabbed her hand. 'Come on, I know where we can go and let off some steam.'
Arizona was scanning the hospital looking for Amber. Amber had a particular technique that she used in the OR and Arizona wanted her to assist in an upcoming surgery. She went to the ER and spotted Lexie. 'Lexie, have you seen your girlfriend?' she asked.
'Not since she took off with Callie at lunch. If you see her, tell her we could use some help here. I have messaged her, but haven't heard anything back. Tell her that I need someone covering the ER so I can meet with Meredith.'
'Ok, I'll find her.' Arizona pulled her phone out again and dialed her wife's number. It rang a few times before Callie picked up. 'Hello?' There was a tremendous amount of noise in the background making it hard for Arizona to hear.
'Calliope? Where are you? What's all that noise?'
'We are downstairs. In the old cast room. Amber is calming down.'
They hung up the phone and Arizona took the elevator to the basement of the hospital. When she stepped out, she heard the distinct sound of shattering plaster and a string of expletives coming from the room. She saw her wife standing outside of the room. She had to lift her foot every so often or dodge out of the way because of a flying piece of plaster cast that came her way. Arizona finally got to the room and stood beside Callie. She saw Amber swinging a hammer and smashing everything in sight. There was broken pieces of plaster everywhere. It was a sight to see.
Amber swung the hammer one final time and shattered the last remaining cast on the shelf. She stood in the middle of the room, her chest heaving, her hair falling out of her ponytail in all directions. She looked up towards the door seeing the two women watching her. 'That was a lot of fucking fun.' she said simply. She placed the hammer down on the shelf, redid her ponytail, slipped her lab coat back on and started making her way back to the elevator.
'What was all that about?' Arizona asked. Callie handed her the letter.
She stopped reading after the first line just like Callie had. 'That motherfucker!'
Lexie had asked Meredith to meet her around four when she took her lunch. They decided to meet at Joe's. She walked into the bar and scanned the small crowd. She found who she was looking for quickly and made her way over to the booth. She stepped closer to the table. Meredith looked up and smiled at the other woman. 'Lexie. Hey. I ordered some food for us already. I hope that it's ok.' Meredith said.
'Yeah. That's perfect actually. Thank you.' Lexie said as she sat in the booth. She reached into her bag and pulled out Meredith's photo. 'I believe this is yours.'
'So…' Meredith started.
'So, we're sisters. I think we are anyway.' Lexie said.
'This is Thatcher then?' Meredith asked.
'Yeah. This is Thatcher Grey. My…Our father. I even asked him about it. He said that he wants to meet you.'
'Oh, um. I guess that would be ok. I was always told that he had died in an accident. Wow. I don't even know what to say. What to think.'
'I know. I still can't believe it. Look… I'm not sure what to feel here. I'm not trying to be rude or whatever, but for 28 years, I thought I only had one sister. Now I have two sisters, another brother in law, and another niece. It's a lot to take in. It will take time. I hope you can understand this.' Lexie said.
'I understand. Maybe we can start by just being friends.' Meredith suggested.
'I would like that. We can deal with the heavy stuff over time.'
'Would you mind telling me a little about Thatcher? I don't know anything about him. Like I said, my mother told me he died in an accident.' Meredith asked.
'Ok, well… He is a great father and a loving grandfather. He likes to work with his hands. After the accident, he worked as a carpenter. He was limited in some ways, but he did pretty well. He has been sober for thirty five years. He hasn't had a drop of alcohol since his accident. And he met my mom at a karaoke bar. They have been together for thirty two years.' Lexie rambled out.
'I'm glad that he seemed to have a good life after his accident. I wish I could have known him. I don't know why my mother kept me a secret from him. I guess I'll never know that answer.' Meredith said looking down at the table.
'I don't know either.' Lexie placed her hand over Meredith's on the table for comfort. The two women chatted for nearly an hour before Lexie had to make her way over to the hospital to finish her shift.
Later that evening, Amber and Lexie were laying in an on call room bed. They were both exhausted and needed a break from the stress of the day. 'How did it go with Meredith, Babe?' Amber asked twirling a dreadlock around her finger.
'It was nice, actually. We talked for an hour or so before I came back to work. It's still so weird. I can't believe I have another sister.' Lexie said.
'I can't imagine. I like Meredith. She's always been a great friend.'
'How about you? How are you holding up?'
'Oh my God, Babe. I don't even know what to think about any of this. Finding out they were married was a shocker. Then I was so pissed earlier. Now I'm just… I don't know. I'm done. I think we should go away. Take a vacation together. What do you think?'
'I think that is a great idea. We can have my parents watch the kids if you want. We can go away just the two of us. Whatever you want to do. I love you, hot stuff.'
'I love you too. I like when you call me that.'
'And that's why I do it. Plus… you're hot.' Lexie said causing them both to chuckle.
On the other side of the hospital, Callie and Arizona were about to head out for the evening. Arizona grabbed Callie's hand as they walked past the nursery. They walked up to the glass and looked in at all of the wriggling babies in the portable bassinets. 'Aw, look Calliope. That one is sucking his finger.' Arizona said pointing at an adorable little boy in the front.
'Babies are so stinking cute. It should be illegal.' Callie said as she turned to look at her wife. 'So we have to come up with some names. I have been going back and forth between a few.'
'I have a few also. You go first.'
'Ok, well I like David, Christopher, and Levi for a boy. And I like Anna, and Harlow for girls. Do you like any of those?'
'I like Levi and I would have liked David, but it's Tyler's middle name so I think it's safe to say no to that one. I don't think we should name him Christopher either. Christopher Robbins? He's going to be made fun of.' Arizona said.
'Oh, I didn't even think of that. Yeah. Not Christopher and definitely not David. What were you thinking?'
'I was thinking Parker or Logan for a boy. And Naya or Emory for a girl.'
'Oh Naya! I love that. Naya Robbins-Torres. That sounds really good.' Callie said.
'So we have a first name for our little lady. We have time to find her a middle name and the perfect name for her brother.'
'Actually for a middle name, I was thinking Sophia. Naya Sophia Robbins-Torres. Do you like that?'
'I think we just named our little girl.' Arizona said as she wrapped her arm around Callie's waist. She laid her head down on Callie's shoulder as they stood there watching the little babies squirming around. Each daydreaming of what little Naya and baby boy will look like.
I hope everyone had a great weekend. Once again, I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my story. It is very therapeutic and when I read that this is someone's favorite story or that the update made their day, it definitely inspires me to continue writing. So a lot going on here. I had a lot of fun writing Amber's speech to Liza. Lexie and Meredith finally talked and baby girl has a name! Any guesses to what baby boy will be named? What do you all think? Let me know :)
