Series 2, Episode 68 ~ House of Speculation

The tunnels to hell – as Camilla had dubbed them – was something the girl would never get used too. With their cobwebs, their flickering lights and their cold unwelcoming atmosphere. Never stepping foot in the tunnels again was something she honestly was looking forward too after these tasks where over and the bitch of a spirit was gone from their lives.

Fabian was leading the pack, the Horus falcon amulet hung around his neck snuggly as he crouched down to check if the exhibition/library was empty. As he backed up Camilla assumed it was the next issue was trying to figure out how to unlock the door, they were all hoping the small vent alluded too. Fabian shone his torch around the small crevasse until he saw a button on the wall – a button that very much looked like a doorbell in Camilla's mind but she kept those thoughts to herself. With a wide grin, Fabian pressed the button and as they all had hoped the wall pushed away from them on a hinge. It was a door like they had all hoped.

"Okay guys, let's go!" Fabian told them as they all crouched through the narrow tunnel to get to the library.

Maybe last year the dimly lit room might have spooked them out but they were Sibuna, and they had gone through far more scary stuff to let a dark library freak them out.

"I think the mosaic is up here," Fabian told Amber and Camilla, as they were the first two into the library after him. the boy rushing off up the stairs leaving the two girls to look at one another. The pair had been unusually quiet the whole tunnel trip sticking together like glue. That only really happened when one of them was worried and had confided in the other.

"I honestly think that tunnel is a health and safety nightmare." Amber pipped up as she watched the other Sibuna's climb out of the new secret door. Camilla and her had noticed the curious looks thrown their way and had decided to act as if nothing was the matter. "if it wasn't secret, I'd say something. People have allergies you know."

Camilla wandered to her uncles' desk as Amber spoke, smiling slightly as she lifted the photo of her Fabian and Jasper from years ago.

"who knew Fabian was cute once," Alfie laughed slightly as he wandered over to see what Camilla was looking at. "I see bowties have always been a Rutter thing."

"what are you on about, Bowties are cool." Camilla mocked slightly as she put the photo back on the desk with a smile on her face.

The two only looked round as they heard Fabian rushing back down the stairs again to see his worried face, "it's not there." He told them all from the middle of the staircase.

"Well..." Nina tried not to sound annoyed as she looked at them all, "spread out. It's got to be here somewhere." She ordered them all.

Camilla turned to the desk as Alfie wandered away to search. It had been an unspoken rule that the twins would do any searching through personal items of Jaspers. It just felt wrong for the others to do so in case they came across something the pair didn't want anyone to know. Fabian soon joined Camilla, taking the drawers as she lifted books and papers and papyrus that littered the desk.

"Remind me," Alfie spoke up to the Sibuna's at large, "what does this mosaic look like again?"

"it's... green, mosaic-like..." Nina tried to explain.

"Kind of tacky," Amber added.

"Why are you all hating on the best love story of Egyptian myth?" Camilla asked looking up at them all causing Fabian to let out a laugh at her honest confusion of them all. The boy had worked his way up the drawers until he reached the final one, a top drawer meant to be used for maps or keeping documents flat. Inside was the mosaic, from the looks of it Jasper was trying to restore it.

"guys!" Fabian called lifting it out of the desk drawer.

"You found it!" Nina excitedly exclaimed as she rushed over to the twins.

"And I'll have our reflector out in a second," Fabian told the girl with a smile as he reached into the drawer to pick up the delicate tweezers from inside. Using them to pry up the reflector on the crown of Osiris.

"be careful," Nina told him.

"Easey there Fabian..." Camilla hissed as the boy almost chipped a section causing him to glance to his sister with an angry look. Her monitoring his work over his shoulder was always the cause of their fights at digs – apparently, it was a habit she couldn't break even at school.

"oh yeah, because we so don't want to break it. What with it being so very, very pretty" Amber sarcastically spoke up, causing the twins to both to turn their heads to her. Patricia could see them open their mouths and quickly jumped in before they could start their rant about how it was a part of history or something.

"Less talking more focus." She told Fabian who looked back down at the mosaic. Within a minute or two he had managed to pop the piece out and he held it up for them all to see the falcon engraved onto it.

"we've got it, guys." He spoke.

"Great, can we go now?" Amber asked, her mind going back to the dollhouse. "I feel like I'm surrounded by homework."

"Nina you take that," Fabian handed her the reflector as he turned to the desk, going to put the mosaic away.

Camilla watched the Sibuna's leave from their new secret door and turned to see Fabian holding something at Jasper's desk the smile on his face falling into one of worry. "Fabian? What's wrong?" she asked him.

Fabian turned to her and she saw the small figurine in his hand. It was the one that was supposedly taken by a student, "I think Jasper lied." He whispered to her, "its Jaspers Ushabti."

"I thought that was halfway up the country," Camilla whispered knowing her brother could hear her. The betrayal and worry were mirrored on the twin's faces as they met up with the other Sibuna's. None of them knowing what to ask the pair as to what had caused it. But from the way Fabian pulled his sister to him, Vera' talk to the unknown man washing over his mind, and the way Camilla kept muttering over and over again to him that she was fine and she was safe. They all knew it couldn't have been a good thing.

Of course, creeping into the tunnels that night came with a hurdle they had all forgotten until Nina opened the secret door to the cellar. Mara and Eddie's ghost hunt.

Camilla and Fabian running from the door with Nina on their heels. Alfie, however, stopped confused at the sight to his left, causing Patricia to run into him and let out a jealous, "Hey!" the noise stirred the two sleeping students causing the pair to run to the secret door that led to the kitchen. Only Amber was left to leave the secret study.

"Come on!" Eddie exclaimed and raced to the camera to take a photo just as Amber jumped. The girl hoping that she wasn't seen but they wouldn't know until the morning.

"Amber! Camilla!" Nina's alert voice along with the fact she switched on the main light caused both girls to groan awake the next morning.

It couldn't be 8 am already surely. It felt as if they had just gotten into bed.

"bright artificial light bulb..." Amber groaned as Nina raced to Camilla and pulled off the girl's duvet knowing that was the only way to get The Protector up sharply.

"Okay, I'm bloody up!" Camilla groaned sitting up and rubbing her eyes, "where is the fire?" Camilla glanced at her phone, "Nim we still have another half hour before our agreed wake up time..."

"do either of you notice anything different?" Nina asked as she turned to look at her wardrobe, both girls sitting up in their respective beds.

"oh, I always get this game wrong..." Amber sighed stretching herself awake a little. "did you do something with your hair?"

"No she still has the same split ends Amber, it can't be the hair," Camilla commented with a yawn causing Nina to look between the two girls with an exasperated look.

"GUYS LOOK!" She gestured to the open wardrobe.

"Nim, there's nothing there..." Amber trailed off before her eyes went wide in understanding. There wasn't anything there. The dollhouse was meant to be there.

"Everyone who's freaked out, say "me" me!" Camilla couldn't help but say as she looked at the empty space.

"the dollhouse is gone." Was Ambers very blunt way of telling the other Sibuna's of their morning's discovery.

"What?!"

"it's my fault for leaving the wardrobe unlocked." Amber sighed as she leant on Camilla who was rubbing her arm comforting.

"Don't blame yourself," Nina sighed looking to Camilla. The female twin had hissed a threat to her as the blonde went to use the bathroom. Camilla could handle Nina's bitchy side but like hell was she going to allow the girl to turn on Amber over one tiny mistake. "I should have checked it myself. It was my wardrobe."

"I'll take it." Amber shrugged looking to Camilla with a thankful smile. She wouldn't tell the girl but she heard the twin's words to Nina and was glad to know she had someone who would defend her even if she wasn't around.

"gone as in stolen gone?" Alfie asked.

"do you think Victor has something to do with-" Fabian started.

Amber looked to Camilla before interrupting him, "Vera." Amber bluntly said it was time she started to take Camilla's side too. Victor was good according to Camilla; well now Victor was good according to Amber too. "she's evil remembered. Probably snuck in while we were sleeping like some sort of ninja!"

"Breakfast is ready!" came Vera's voice as the woman walked out of the living room to see the group huddled together causing Alfie to jump dramatically. They all watched as she ran up the stairs and out of sight.

"that's not the only disaster from last night," Patricia pipped up the moment they knew Vera was out of earshot. "don't forget Eddie and Mara snapping that photo of ghost Amber."

"Oh come on," Fabian tried to sound positive, "I'm sure they haven't got anything. Otherwise, we would have heard about it." With that, he led them all into the dining room just in time to see Eddie holding his laptop out for the people at the table.

"Check it out! Proof of the ghost of Anubis." Eddie told them all excitedly.

Camilla moved forward to stand next to Jerome as she titled her head to try to see 'ghost Amber'. "not a very clever name." Camilla told him causing the boy to laugh before holding his hand out to Eddie.

"Can I see that?"

Eddie nodded and rushed around the table to where the pair stood by their chairs, the Sibuna's all rushing into the kitchen.

"I think we have enough evidence now to go with the story," Mara told Joy.

"Yeah, yeah... people eat up this kind of baloney." Joy told her with a nod.

"it's not baloney!" Mara insisted.

"I mean, I still don't believe in ghosts..." Camilla spoke up causing Joy to point to the girl as if proving a point, "that could be photoshopped picture for all we know..."

"Cam come on, I've never seen a zebra, that doesn't mean that they don't exist," Eddie told the small girl as he bit into an apple causing Jerome and Camilla to turn their heads to him in unison both of them look at him in shock.

"Wait a minute, you've never seen a zebra?" Camilla asked the boy.

"Cam!" Fabian hissed from inside the kitchen causing the girl to look around at him to see the emergency Sibuna meeting and rushing off to join.

Jerome handed back the laptop and watched Camilla runoff, tilting his head as he took in the group that were all trying too hard to appear casual in the kitchen. His eyes softening though as Fabian pulled Camilla into a side hug and the girl leaned her head on his shoulder as she muttered that she was fine to him. The look on Fabian's face was one of a worried big brother – a look that hadn't been on his face around Camilla in a very long time as the girl could handle most things herself.

"the article will present both the believer and the sceptic's point of view!" Mara insisted looking to Joy after sending Camilla a dirty look as she ran to the kitchen.

"Okay, but just not too much," Joy told the girl, "of the sceptic's view, it makes it seem a bit, meh... you know? You need to give me an angle!" Joy hit the table as if it added emphasis to her point.

"do you even know what that means?" Eddie asked the girl.

"Yes!" Joy told him with a dismissive wave of her hand, "stories need angles. I need an angle. So give me an angle and then I'll put it out there."

"An Angle?" Mara sighed looking to Eddie.

"okay did anyone else think that all the angle talk at breakfast made Joy sound like she was really into maths," Camilla laughed as the Sibuna's pushed open the doors to the locker's hallway. Alfie was the only one to join in on Camilla's laughter – knowing the girl was only trying to lighten everyone's spirits despite the bad news the picture presented.

"they really getting on my nerves now," Patricia told them.

"and you're not the one getting death glares for talking to your crush," Camilla murmured though Alfie and Fabian heard her from the sympathetic glances they both shot her way.

"what are we going to do them?!"

"I know. If joy publishes it's going to bring a world of attention to what we're doing." Nina nodded her head in agreement with Patricia.

Patricia, however, scoffed, "not that." She told the girl, "like Camilla said they haven't made the Tut leap and I doubt they will. I'm talking about Them! Mara and Eddie."

Fabian groaned, just what they needed a jealous Patricia not focused correctly, though from the smiles on Amber and Camilla's faces they were more than happy to help the girl out. Amber knew of Mara's meddling all too well thanks to her stealing Mick and the girl seemed to have latched on to Jerome too. Amber wasn't having the nerdy girl break up 2 of her favourite ships.

"and the article... of course," Patricia added at Fabian's groan smiling at the girls behind her knowing they at least were on her side when it came to this Mara business.

"Worry not Amber and I have a cunning plan," Alfie spoke up causing them all to turn to look at the pair who were looking at each other with pride.

"Oh really?" Nina asked sounding doubtful.

"Yeah, they don't have an article if they don't have the pictures." Amber explained, "do they?"

"so we're going to destroy them!"

"Oh! I have been working on some software that could help with that." Patricia excitedly spoke up before digging through her bag. Before holding out a pen drive, "bring them down, and break them up while you're at it."

"This has a virus?" Alfie asked taking the pen drive.

"Should corrupt the files he has saved there," Patricia nodded her head.

"This is called, Operation Quick Server," Amber told them as Alfie did a hand movement like he was drawing a rainbow behind her.

"Why?" Camilla couldn't help but ask.

"Because it sounds cool..." this reply from Alfie caused Camilla to let out a laugh.

"well you guys better be quick," Fabian told them, "before they come up with an angle." With this Sibuna dispersed to do their own things.

Jerome was starting to understand Camilla's constant eye roll whenever she walked into the library/exhibition. Having spent more hours in the small building than he did in Anubis house some of the mindless knowledge he had collected was surprising even to him. however, that wasn't what he had to focus on. He knew Jasper would be making the phone call to The Collector about having the dollhouse and he wanted to hear it.

The man had his phone to his ear as the boy wandered in and Jerome moved close enough so he could hear Jasper's side of the conversation, the man was shaking with fear and worry.

"I've got what you want." He told The Collector, or that is who Jerome assumed was on the other end of the phone. The boy watching as the man paused to listen to what was being said before replying. "waiting with Trudy. I'm not bringing it unless you bring her. That is final. No Trudy no dollhouse." The man said before hanging up the phone.

Jerome couldn't help but be a little impressed at the man for doing this. it was clear how scared of The Collector he was and it was a bold move considering it wasn't just Trudy's life on the line but Camilla's and Fabian's too. As much as Jerome was doing everything for Trudy, he knew deep down Camilla was the main driving force for him helping her uncle. The girl had gotten under his skin in the last two years in a way he could never have imagined. He couldn't see his life without her in it in some capacity so he was more than happy to fight for her.

"yes?!" Jasper spoke as he answered the phone once again, the man close to tears. Whatever was said caused pure fear to etch its way onto Jasper's face as he looked at his phone before turning around to see a stone-faced Jerome in his eye-line. "H-How much of that did you hear?" Jasper asked the boy.

"enough to know you can't do this on your own," Jerome told him.

Jasper knew bringing Jerome along was probably a bad idea, but some part of him felt safer knowing he wasn't alone as he stood on the dirt track with the dollhouse in front of him. A car slowly made its way towards him and the man gathered all the bravery he could as he watched it stop and The Collector step out.

Jerome was hidden behind the same pile of rubbish he had hidden in last time Jasper had a Collector exchange – though this time he didn't have to hide his bike as well as him.

In the daylight it made the exchange seem less foreboding but both he and the man waiting knew that the daylight probably made the exchange even more dangerous. The same cloaked figure exited the car and opened the car's boot. Both Jasper and Jerome realising then and there that Trudy wasn't with him.

The Collector went straight to the dollhouse picking it up and placing it into the back of his car.

"Trudy? Where's Trudy?!" Jasper demanded of the man.

Getting no response.

"What's going on?" Jasper ran up to The Collector stopping him from entering his car again, "Where is Trudy?!" he demanded, "you promise! We had a deal."

"We had no deal. You came up with those terms I did not." Came the same weird voice box like the voice of The Collector causing both Jerome and Jasper's eyes to squint in suspicion. What kind of a man does not hold up their end of a deal? A weak pathetic one. Or at least that is what they now assumed. Not that either would say that to the face of this man – more so because neither of them knew what he looked like. "You need to be reminded about who's in charge here!"

The Collector went to walk away and Jasper in a moment of sheer bravery or stupidity did something that would forever haunt Jerome. He pulled back the hood of The Collector.

The face that had been haunting Jerome since the term before turned around sneering at Jasper.

Rufus Zeno wasn't dead after all. In fact, he was very much alive. And very much a man with power.

"Gods help us..." the familiar phrase of Camilla's slipped from Jerome's mouth as he looked on in horror.

What had they gotten themselves into?
