Chapter 69
.
Note: Chase Graves and Liv Moore are from the television series "IZombie."
.
President Odonnell never forgot that he was descended from refugees. This was true for the current president, and the alien ambassador. Still, the ambassador, as de facto leader of the alien refugees, he had to consider all of his options. Antarctica was the largest continent on this planet, and their technology made it habitable. But it had limited space, and the refugees had limited resources over all. Many of his people wanted to go into the Hell dimension, rescue their loved ones, even when it meant taking the chance of never coming back. The ambassador understood this mentality, he had been fortunate enough to be reunited with his granddaughter Amy. How could he deny others the chance to reconcile with their respective loved ones? On the other hand, resources were limited. One day, the ambassador was taking counsel from two of his people, Liv Moore and Chase Graves. Chase and Liv were both zombies, but not savages. They fought for zombie rights, for peaceful coexistence with humans, but with different methods. Their city of Seattle was quarantined when a good portion of the population became zombies. Chase became the de facto leader of the zombies, and ruled with an iron fist. He prohibited the turning of more humans, fearing that there wouldn't be enough brains from dead bodies to go around. Liv on the other hand believed in saving lives, turning terminally ill children into zombies. This put her at odds with Chase's policy, and he sentanced her to death, but ended up being killed himself before the sentance could be carried out. The ambassador wanted their different perspectives on new refugees.
.
Chase: The fact is we have limited capacity here, limited resources.
Liv: We're nowhere near overflow.
Chase: But we should prepare for that possibility. I'd recommend recruiting more soldiers. As for, those less experienced with fighting, doctors, engineers, other essential personnel, we recruit them in a more limited capacity.
Liv: And civilians, children?
Chase: We can make exceptions for those for essential personnel, but not many.
Liv: You do realize we're all alien refugees now?
Chase: I'm aware. But the fact is, we don;t have the room, or the resources for everyone, and I don;t see many countries taking us in any time soon. From what I understand, this final battle that's coming, stopping this evil would set these civilians free, give them the chance of being reborn.
Liv: And killing them in the process.
Chase: War is hell, in any universe.
Liv: And if we win this war by turning our backs on those who need our help?
Chase: Then we win the war, and rebuild as best we can.
Liv: Correct me if I'm wrong, aren't you stuck here because you made bad choices like that?
Chase: Probably. But you were the savior, the healer, and you weren't raptured up either.
Liv: Fair point.
Ambassador: Thank you both, I will consider all possibilities, and consult others.
