A canon-compliant drabble on The Amazing Spider-Man #114.
Gwen hugged some textbooks to her chest, trying to leave campus when an urgent voice called out to her.
"Gwen! Gwen Stacy!" Professor Warren finally caught up to her. "Slow down, girl... I want to talk with you, if you have a few moments."
"It's about Peter, isn't it Professor Warren?" Gwen asked knowingly.
"Why, yes, I'm quite concerned... He hasn't been in class for almost a week. And this rumor..." he trailed off, looking downward.
"About his Aunt? It's true, Professor. And in a way, it's my fault that she's run away...!" Gwen confessed easily, turning to leave while awkwardly over-explaining the situation from over her shoulder.
"You see, I told her she was being too maternal with Pete, too overbearing. Apparently, she took it to heart...!"
"Now, Gwen...you mustn't blame yourself..." Professor Warren tried.
Gwen walked away from him somberly. 'Oh, mustn't I, Professor? If I don't... who do I blame? Peter's poor sweet Aunt May? Or Peter himself? No... I have to face the truth... I drove Aunt May away... and I only pray that Peter can ever forgive me!' she thought to herself miserably.
Flash was driving beside her slowly and pulled over. "Hey, beautiful!" he beamed brightly. "Why so grim? Frowns make that pretty face look mighty sad! C'mon and tell Flash all about it, baby."
"I-I'd rather not say, Flash." Gwen dismissed, not overly in the mood for any company today.
"Too bad, Gwendy! It seems like it should be a fascinating story!" The blond grinned. "Hey, I was just at Harry Osborn's pad, borrowing his wheels- He told me all about Parker's ulcer- what a laugh!" Flash mocked.
Gwen snapped, seething as she pointed her finger at Flash, effectively wiping the smile off his face. "Mister Thompson- that's the last straw! You've been picking on Peter for years- I'd hoped that being in the Army had taught you something about maturity-" Flash had cowered in his seat, raising his hand to try and stop her, but it was no use. She continued.
"But no! You're still nothing but an over-grown child! Peter's one of the nicest, sweetest men in the world-" Gwen ranted, still fuming as she turned her heel and stormed off, calling back to him. "And one of him makes twelve of you! You promised me you wouldn't joke about him anymore- You should learn to keep your promises!"
"Gwen, I- Oh beans!"
A/N: It's now been 4 issues since Gwen yelled at Aunt May and notice how much she's beating herself up over it. She never lets herself forget her wrongdoing. But Sins Past pretends she can ditch her elderly father who'd just been threatened, cheat on Peter, and flee the country to give birth in two weeks and then abandon her so-called "children" and never confess what happened. It's so far from her nature, it's repulsive character assassination.
