Patchwork Road

Chapter summary: Pepper will do everything for whom she considers family, including surviving an encounter with a lethal predator.
54. Soon
The blue giants broke away from her when Pepper managed to land her first blow on the creepy animal that seems intent on grabbing her, most likely for its meal. Apparently, they would rather spectate this impromptu gladitorial show, rather than aiding any or both parties.
But apparently, too, despite the confusion of alien terrain and creeping exhaustion and lethal strikes, she's still taking the right path to her old friend and parent figure. The pearl-like thing that she always wears in a necklace since she was ten glows brighter with a warm, gentle cream-coloured sheen, in any case, and "Nalla," her winter-camp instructor that long ago, told her it'd mean she's pretty close to their location.
She can't wait! And with that knowledge plus self-encouragement, her attacks become more vigorous despite her flagging energy.
She's going to be home past this hurdle!
