Perception

Idly, Inuyasha stood by the door; his ears were tuned towards the closed bedroom door and the quiet, confident orders and the female cop was giving the crime scene techs. The science geeks couldn't tell her much as yet, except that there was more blood than could have possibly come from the cat.

Tuning back into the conversation between his brother and the other cop, he was surprised at the lack of hostility. Sesshoumaru had never been known for his patience with others, especially when they weren't giving hiim the right answers. Still, this one seemed to have some common sense and as he caught the tail end of the conversation, Inuyasha noted that he seemed to silently cut himself off before giving his acknowledge of Rin's name. Inuyasha was tempted to call him on the fact that he was keeping something from Sesshoumaru but at the last minute, decided not to, based on the forlorn look that came into his icy blue eyes.

Most people thought Inuyasha to be a brash, jump first, think later type of person. In general, he was. What they tended to miss though was that despite all of that, he was also a very perceptive young half-demon. So he didn't miss the look his father scent the Higurashi mother and couldn't keep the exasperated huff of breath from escaping. He didn't know if it was a good thing or a bad thing but he decided he would set Myoga to keep an eye on the situation.

Finally, he turned his attention to the young woman who all the commotion was about. She was pretty, in a subtle, take your breath away, kind of way, especially when she gave that crooked little half smiling she was currently directing at his father. He noted the similarities between her and his mate and shrugged them off. He much preferred Kikyou's innate elegance and her quiet demeanor. Like his mate, she was a miko but the minty scent of purity was three times as strong as his loves and it terrified him to his toes, not that he would ever let her know.

He hadn't been able to ignore the sensation of her terror from earlier as it had trickled down his spine, squeezing his heart and sending him chasing after his father and brother. She wasn't his, he didn't want her to be but she was, as his father said, now pack. He would likely care for pup just as much as he cared for his own, just as he had with Rin. When she glanced at him, he nodded imperceptibly.
