The hospital was now in lockdown. 'Code Orange' had been activated and everyone was doing their best to ensure the safety of not only the patients but themselves too. Will had just finished being decontaminated. He could just see the two of them deep in conversation. At first he had no clue what they were discussing, but then something in his mind clicked. How could he have been so oblivious? It was obvious. Every time Fenisha and him were together, Ethan would be there the next minute. Even when he had overheard Fenisha and Ethan's talk about going to see an outdated film, Will should have known.
Deep down he was angry. He was angry at himself for not seeing the subtle signs. Not only was he angry with himself but, he was also angry with them. To him, friends wouldn't do that. Friends don't go behind each other's backs. A part of him knew that it was petty. After all it was way before him and Fenisha got together, yet he was still angry. While the baby wasn't his and it was none of his business, he still should have been told if there was a slight chance of him and Fenisha getting back together. Why couldn't they? He liked her, and though she liked him. He thought this time this relationship was going somewhere. Fenisha was the first girl to touch his heart. Yes, he had girlfriends in the past but, they didn't last long and for him they weren't anything. They were just fun. But, with Fenisha it was different. He really wanted to be with her.
The night shift was starting. For Will, Ethan and Fenisha their shifts were over. Ethan stepped out of the entrance, breathing a sigh of relief. The day had been a tough one. One of the toughest he's ever worked in. On the other hand, Ethan was glad that the hospital had managed to contain the situation under control. As he stepped outside, he didn't notice Will was behind him until he turned around. Ethan assumed Will would have made some witty remark about the kind of day they'd had. Instead Will brushed past him.
"Hopefully won't be wearing one of those suits any time soon." Ethan called out.
Will, who had been purposely avoiding Ethan, responded in a way Ethan didn't expect.
"Course. I forgot you don't wear protection, do you?" Will retorted after scoffing slightly.
Slightly caught off guard by Will's response, Ethan was confused.
"I don't know what that's supposed to mean."
"Yeah you do." Will said bluntly.
Realisation dawned on Ethan that Will knew about him and Fenisha. Knew that the baby Fenisha was carrying was his baby not Will's.
"Will, it wasn't like that." Ethan answered.
He wanted to reassure Will his relationship with Fenisha had nothing to do with his relationship with her, but Ethan's reassurance didn't work. Will's temper got the better off him.
"Is that what you do to your mates, is it?" Will raised his voice, shoving Ethan by his shoulders. "Do you think I'm an idiot?"
"No." Ethan said calmly, trying to defuse the situation.
"I heard you earlier. Do you think I'm an idiot?" Will asked again, still pushing Ethan backwards.
"No." Ethan said." It was weeks ago."
That response from Ethan only got Will more riled up. He began hitting Ethan even harder. Hearing the commotion between the two of them, Lev ran towards them followed by Fenisha. Lev managed to break them up. Not wanting to deal with another confrontation, Will backed off.
"Do you know what? You're welcome to each other." Will said, turning his back and walking away.
Ethan and Fenisha looked on as Will disappeared into the night. Lev sensed this was his cue to leave so he said his goodbyes and left the two of them. With it just being the two of them, Fenisha turned her attention to Ethan.
"What was that all about?" She questioned.
"Nothing." Ethan uttered.
"Nothing? It didn't look like nothing. Tell me what it was about."
"Fenisha, just leave it. We've all had a hard day and I don't want anymore confrontation. Just go home."
Fenisha could tell Ethan wasn't telling her the truth. She attempted to get him to tell her what had just happened between him and Will.
"Come on, Ethan. It must have been something. Otherwise why would Will be losing his temper with you?"
"It's like I said. Everyone's had a tough day. I guess he just needed to vent his feelings towards someone."
"By hitting you? Shoving you?"
Ethan muttered under his breath. Fenisha scoffed at his answer.
"I know that's not the reason why Will's so mad at you."
Fenisha knew she wasn't getting anywhere with Ethan.
"Fine." She sighed. "If you won't tell me, then I guess I'll have to get the answer from Will."
Fenisha was about to go find Will when Ethan stopped her.
"You saw the mood he was in. What makes you think he'll tell you?"
"Well, it's not like you're going to tell me. So I'm going to have to find out from him."
With that, Fenisha headed off hoping by the time she had found Will, he had calmed down. It didn't take her long to find him. Will was sitting up at the bar with a bottle of beer in front him.
"Hey." She said quietly as she took a stool next to him.
Will didn't even look her. He just took a swig from his bottle.
"You gonna tell me what that was all about?" She pushed.
Will took another sip from his bottle.
"Like you don't know." He answered.
"Uh, I don't."
"Yeah, of course you don't. It's not like I haven't noticed."
"Noticed what? You aren't making any sense, Will."
"No, I think I'm making perfect sense. Like I said before, you're both welcome to each other."
Will was about to get up and leave when Fenisha grabbed his elbow.
"Will, wait. If this is about what happened between me and Ethan, then you don't have to worry about anything. It was before you and I got together."
"Oh and like that even matters. You still should have told me."
"Why?" Fenisha's voice was slightly raised. "It had...has nothing to do with us."
"Us? There is no us. Not anymore."
"Will..." This time her voice was quieter. Almost inaudible.
"Look, Fenisha. I really like you. When I met you, you were different. You got my sense of humour. You got my sarcasm and you responded with even witter comebacks. You even had a similar outlook on life as I did. I thought we had something."
"We still do. What's happened doesn't change anything."
"You're having a baby."
"So? This baby doesn't change anything. Doesn't change the way I feel about you."
"And how do you feel about me?"
Fenisha glanced towards the floor. Will sensed her hesitation.
"I see."
"No, Will. Wait." Fenisha called out as Will was about to leave.
Once again Will stopped. He turns around waiting to hear her answer.
"Well?"
"I...I like you, Will. I really do, but I'm not going to get rid of this baby. My baby."
"Ethan's baby."
"Yeah, Ethan's baby too. It's not fair."
"And I'm not saying you have to get rid of this baby."
"Then what are you saying?"
"I'm saying, I'm not ready to have a child yet."
"Right." Was all she could say.
"I'm sorry, Fenisha."
Will turned back around and walked out of the pub. Fenisha closed her eyes and released a shaky breath. At least her confrontation could have gone worse. Now all she had to do was talk to Ethan. If she was going to keep her...their baby she wanted Ethan to be part of the journey. She was glad her secret was out. What she didn't know was that Ethan was still hiding a secret of his own.
