Walk
The air was brisk, and the temperature was freezing cold. The sun shown off the lakes surface as the children played in the snow. Ezra couldn't be happier. He was surrounded by his family. Mira and Anna were playing in the snow drifts, Celeste clung to Sabine's leg, freezing from the cold. She never did like the cold. Sabine was walking next to her husband, leaning on his shoulder. Her left hand rested on her stomach. They had found out just yesterday that she was once again pregnant. They had decided to wait and find out the gender when it came. Sabine looked up at him and smiled.
"What are you thinking about?"
"Oh, just how a few years ago, you wouldn't give me the time of day. And now, we are married and have 3 children."
"4, love." She reminded him.
"Yes love, 4." He chuckled and pulled her closer.
"I was never sure how Hera would take this idea."
"What do you mean? She loves it." Ezra seemed confused by this.
"I don't doubt that now, but think about it. We were what she thought of as her children. I couldn't imagine she'd be thrilled if her two 'children' got together. Much less had their own children."
"Ok, I see what you are getting at. The whole brother sister thing would be weird if we were actually related. But Hera knew that we were not related and could be together if we chose, which we did." He lifted her chin up and leaned down to kiss her.
"I wonder if Kanan guessed we would turn out this way." Sabine picked up the little girl around her leg and held her close.
"Who's Kanan, Mommy?" Celeste asked, gaining the attention of her sisters. Mira and Anna sauntered over and stood around them.
"Yea, we've heard you say his name, but we still don't know him." Mira chimed in.
"Kanan was the man who trained me to be a Jedi. He is also Jacen's father." Ezra smiled and kneeled down to his twin daughters.
"So, is he our uncle?" Celeste asked from above him.
"Well, that's a tough one. Your mother and I saw Kanan as a father figure. So in that sense, he would be your grandfather. In another way, he was like a brother. Hera was always the mother on the ship." Ezra chuckled and they all sat down on a nearby log. The girls sat up in his lap and Celeste stayed with Sabine.
"He was a man we looked up to. I wish you could have met him." Sabine wiped a tear from her eye.
"Oh, I do know him." Anna piped up. "Remember Mira, that night on Lot-al." She still had trouble saying Lothal.
"Yea, it was right after you went away Daddy." Mira agreed.
"What happened, sweetheart?"
"A man came to us in our room. Celeste was asleep and didn't wake up. The man said his name was Kanan and that he knew you and Mommy." Anna smiled at the memory.
"After a while he just kinda went away." Mira added at the end.
"Hmm. It is possible, dear." Ezra grinned at his wife.
"I suppose. That would make sense why Celeste didn't see him." Sabine pulled Celeste closer and squeezed her. "That doesn't make you any different baby girl." As if she knew what her adopted daughter was thinking.
"I will have to speak with him later and see what that was about. But in the meantime…" He smiled and picked up his daughters with the Force and floated them to a snow drift and dropped them in.
"Daddy!" The little girls shrieked while giggling hard.
"What?"
Celeste was laughing too, as she was not thrown in. Sabine saw this and got an idea.
"Oh, you aren't safe either Celeste." She took off with her jetpack and carefully dropped Celeste next to her sisters in the snow.
She too got up laughing as Sabine landed next to her husband. Little did they know, Mira and Anna had a trick of their own.
"Ready?"
"Ready."
Together the girls lifted snow off of the ground. Ezra and Sabine had not stopped laughing at their own antics to notice their daughter's. The snow drift hovered over their heads and came to a stop. Mira and Anna relaxed, and the large snow drift dropped down. Both adults were covered. All three girls were hysterical.
"Okay, now we are even." Sabine laughed as she walked over and picked up Anna. Mira and Celeste made their way out of the snow and walked to Ezra.
"Alright you three. It's getting late." He picked up Celeste and Mira walked in between them. However, Mira proved to be very tired from her games and started to stumble. "Alright, you can come up here too." Ezra then picked up his oldest daughter and let her rest on his shoulder. The family made their way back to the stronghold and were greeted by the guards outside the main entrance. With a nod of the head, they went inside.
They all went down the hallway and to the girls' room. When they got there, Ezra and Sabine put the twins down for a nap. Since Celeste wasn't tired, she stayed with them. She did seem amazed with what happened.
"Why did Anna and Mira get so tired Daddy?" Celeste asked her father.
"Well, when a youngling uses the Force, it drains their energy for a bit. In time, they will be able to use it without being tired." Ezra responded to the little girl sitting in his lap.
"Will I ever be able to do that stuff?"
He knew that this question was coming. Even though they had talked with the children about Celeste being adopted. The girls saw no change in their relationship because of it. The twins still saw Celeste as their sister and Celeste saw all of them as her real family.
"Do you remember our talk about family sweetie?" Sabine came over and sat on the floor in front of them.
"Yea."
"Well, Mira and Ezra take after Ezra. So, they will be able to use the Force. But don't think that makes you any less our daughter. If you would like, I can always train you in hand to hand fighting and blaster shooting when you are older." Sabine offered.
"Yay!" The little girl excited. Even though it would be some time before she got to train, she was still happy.
"Yes, and you can train with Mira and Anna with sword fighting." Ezra chuckled seeing her eyes light up.
They had made sure that Celeste was not left out of this. She was their daughter too. So, she deserved as much training as the twins got, even though the force was not fully with her.
I love these little filler chapters. Its all really sweet stuff. There won't be any major events coming soon, just training and a new addition to the family. Till tomorrow TB out!
