Chapter 56: Run Like Hell
''Anyone have any ideas on how to get out of this,'' Erica asked the group.
''I'd set off an eternal winter, but we're indoors and Winter Wraith is running low on ice,'' Alain says.
''We're running low on magic in general,'' Melinda hissed. ''We're physically and magically exhausted.''
''Speak for yourselves,'' Sarah says. ''I could go all night.''
''Well all you have to do to get energy is bite someone,'' Krinos argued. ''Not like the rest of us can do that, other than Erica and Ethan.''
''No kidding,'' Dick agreed. ''The longer I seem to keep Cavalier out, the less energy I seem to have.''
''That's what happens with the constant use of magic,'' Orion informed. ''The more we use it, the more it drains our cores before we give them time to recharge.''
''Great, just great,'' Conner groaned.
''KILL THEM,'' Maddie screamed.
The agents all raised their guns.
''Not on my watch,'' Krinos says.
He held out his hand and in a flash, the Scepter of Light appeared in his hand. The lord of nature slammed it onto the ground.
''Screen,'' he called.
The gem lit up and walls of light formed around the group. It was like they were in a box made of light. The anti-magic shots dissolved on contact with the walls.
''This light screen won't hold forever,'' Krinos informed. ''We need to find a way out of here before we all run out of juice and are turned into lab rats.''
''And here I thought that nature users were eternal optimists,'' Caitlin says.
''Optimism kind of goes out the door when there are twenty-one of us, a lot more of them, two of us are injured, and one is weakened,'' Lena said.
''Melinda, are there any teleportation spells you have in mind,'' Mason asked the witch.
''I'm way too out of power to cast one,'' Melinda says. ''If I had my spell book, I could have opened a portal to the isles. But I don't have it.''
''Well, it's not like we have any magic beans,'' Alain crossed his arms.
''Don't even ask,'' Valerie says, seeing the looks of confusion on her teammate's faces.
''Well, then what do we do,'' Gar asks everyone.
''Krinos, can't you do that floral swirl thing to get us out of here,'' Valerie asked.
''I can't do it for more than one person,'' Krinos admits. ''IE, me.''
''Great, just great,'' Conner complains.
Melinda and Orion then looked around, finally noticing a missing factor that hasn't been around for a while. But none noticed the twins move their hands toward each other.
''Um... has anyone seen Skylar,'' Melinda asked.
''As a matter of fact, I can't recall seeing him since we left the mountain,'' Orion says. ''Great, now we have another missing friend.''
''Missing, or maybe just...'' Ethan trailed off, his eyes going white.
''Finally, a vision,'' Sarah breaths in relief. ''We could have used one of those an hour ago.''
''Not helping, Sarah,'' Roy tells the vampire seer's girlfriend.
''Well, I can't but get sarcastic when i'm stressed,'' Sarah protested.
Ethan gasped as he got out of his vision trance.
''We might want to prepare for what's about to happen,'' he warned the group.
''Why,'' Gar asked, curiously.
''Them,'' Ethan pointed.
Everyone turned to see that the twins were standing up. Their hands were intertwined. Probably the only reason they could stand in their condition, by connecting their powers.
''You two shouldn't be standing,'' Dick says, worried for his younger brothers.
''Sit back down, my friends,'' Kaldur said, also worried.
''We... we don't have the time,'' Danny chocked out. ''The connection only lasts for so long.''
''You two know what to do, don't you,'' Ma'gann asked.
''Skylar knows,'' White told them. ''He's getting the secret weapon as we speak. As for how we get out of here, do what must be done.''
''I don't understand,'' Krinos said, most of the others agreeing with him.
''They're afraid of us, they always will be,'' Danny says. ''Give them something to be afraid of. They're so scared of what we can do, then show them.''
''We all know that not all humans are like them,'' White says. ''We hide so that we can do our jobs without bother or worry of interference. They won't stop until we make them. Show every single one of these psychos the real meaning of fear.''
''Make Hades proud,'' Danny told them.
They separated their hands, collapsing. Blue Beetle and Red Huntress caught them. Beetle, having finally stood up after the burst of magic from his armor, looked at the rest.
''Look, i'm not a user of magic like the rest of you, but even I know what they were talking about,'' he said.
The mystics all looked at each other. As hard as it was for them to admit, the three had a point. They needed to make a statement to never mess with magic again. It was just hard for them to accept it. They spent all their lives trying to hide away the scary side of their powers so that they wouldn't have to be afraid of scaring others. Especially for those like Lena, Caitlin, and Krinos, who all have powers that are considered peaceful by nature.
''If they want to see magic,'' Alain says, looking at the agents, ''we'll give them magic.''
The mystics all nodded in agreement.
''But are we really gonna cross the line we promised to never cross,'' Sarah asks. ''Are we gonna use our powers to take lives.''
The Young Justice team darted their heads toward the mystics. Every hero knows that when you take a life, there's no turning back from it. Not even Batman or Superman would cross that line. Batman definitely has the skill and anger to do it and lord knows that Superman has the power to do so.
''It's one thing to scare them, but we don't kill,'' Caitlin said. ''It's after we get out of here that i'm worried about.''
''The future is never set in stone, trust me on that,'' Ethan says.
''We might not have a future if we don't get out of here,'' Erica growled.
They all nodded.
''Kaldur,'' Alya requested.
''I'm on it,'' Kaldur said.
He held out his hand. In another flash, the trident appeared in it. The Atlantean held the most powerful of the Weapons of the Ancients.
''Krinos, prepare to lower the shield,'' he told the nature lord.
''You all ready,'' Dick called to them.
''As we'll ever be,'' Lena says. ''I may fight, but I don't have to like it.''
Everyone got ready. To save power, Nightwing called back Cavalier. Krinos took the scepter in hand. Slamming it onto the ground, the shield shattered. All the agents were sent back by the force of the shatter.
''Let's see how you like being the ones forced into a corner,'' Sarah growled.
The three vampires hissed at them, flaring their fangs and showing deep red eyes. They lunged at the agents. All three sunk their fangs into three separate necks. As the humans fell unconscious, the three creatures of the night looked up. There was still a little blood dripping from their mouths. Now, the agents were scared.
''Goddess Athena, I pray to thee,'' Juliet cast.
She glowed a blue and white color. Armor formed on her body. Sapphire and diamond gauntlets and boots with a battle skirt and chest plate. On her head was an owl head-like helmet and there was a blue cape tied to her shoulder plates. Twins swords were in her hands.
With a battle cry, the Camelot witch dived into the fray. The only thing you could see of her was the trail of unconscious bodies she left behind.
''Well, she's terrifying,'' Ma'gann timidly said.
''Try living with her for 500 years, now that's scary,'' Mason says.
The weapons mage then stood up, running toward the agents. His eyes glowed silver as a ring of swords appeared around him.
''Circle sword,'' he yelled.
He sent the swords flying. And Guys In White personnel were sent flying with them. Calling another sword into his hand, he charged.
Alain and Caitlin were next. Slamming their feet, they stood in front of another group of agents. They cracked their necks, their eyes glowing sun and moonlight. The two Delos inhabitants changed.
Alain grew to twice his size. His legs becoming a wolf's hind legs. He grew grey fur all over his body. A mane of the fur grew down the back of his head and neck. His clothes now tattered and torn as he changed into the body of a human-like wolf, complete with a tail. His hands became wolf-like claws. The head of a dangerous wolf and human hybrid. There were sapphire cuff bracelets on his wolf wrists and white patterns on his back, stomach, and face.
Caitlin dropped the golden bow on the ground. Her teeth fanged and her eyes like emeralds with cat slits. She grew golden cat fur over her body. Her human ears were replaced by cat ones on her head. Her hands were like claws with jungle cat-like paws for feet and legs. Her clothes were also torn, but less than Alain's. A tail could also be seen. She still had on her armor of light.
The agents all backed away from them, some even dropping their guns.
''What's the matter,'' Caitlin teased. ''Cat got your tongue. RAAH.''
''Or maybe they're allergic to dogs, AHOO,'' Alain howled.
Ice and light were scattered as the were-creatures launched themselves at the humans. The heroes had never seen them attack so viciously.
On the other side of the hall, the Fentons had their own problems. In the form of an animal witch, nature siren, and lord of nature. Alya, Lena, and Krinos, had them backing away. The adults aimed their guns at the three.
''Do you really think those toys, of yours, will be anything against us,'' Alya taunted.
Wooden roots came out of nowhere and grabbed the guns. They brought them close to Krinos, who had his hands out. He made a fist, and the roots crushed the weapons. Alya then touched her pendant, the spirit of a lion surrounding her.
''You're an abomination, all of you are,'' Maddie sneered.
''And you are not really in a position to be making insults,'' Lena glared.
Giant venus flytraps were growing behind the psychos. But before the siren could make them strike, a giant blizzard erupted through the entire hall.
''ALAIN,'' most of them yelled.
''I DIDN'T DO IT,'' the werewolf protested.
''No, that would be me,'' a boy's voice said.
Every head turned his way. There floated a teenage boy, no older than fifteen or sixteen. Skylar was flying next to him.
He has white hair, striking blue eyes, and pale skin. He has a tall stature, yet is pretty slim. His clothing is a blue hooded sweater, frost collecting around the ring of the collar, and wore the same trousers bound with lighter material starting from the knee down to the rather tattered and frayed bottom, and is barefoot. He carries around a magical staff with a G-shaped arch. It is similar to a shepherd's crook.
''JACK,'' the mystics cried.
''I cleared the way,'' the spirit of winter yells. ''So let's get the hell out of this creepy place.''
Orion grabbed Siren and Superboy took Phantom. Without a second thought, everyone ran down the hall. The immortal winter teenager lead them out.
