Rude Awakening

She hadn't been aware of much, just of being warm, of leaning against something soft - and then hazy and confused images in her head… and then the door slammed and brought her back to wakefulness. And she realised that the warmth and softness was coming from Doyle, she had - and she didn't quite know how - fallen asleep against him. And now it was early morning, and Angel was standing in the doorway staring at them.

She pulled away from Doyle, quickly, sitting up and feeling awkward. She was berating herself, inside her head. That had been a stupid thing to do, letting her guard down like that. She hadn't known Doyle very long, barely knew the first thing about him. He could be a serial killer for all she knew - or a monster, more likely. Letting herself fall asleep in front of him could have been dangerous. She should know better than that.

But she hadn't felt in any danger last night … in fact she had felt so comfortable around him that she had relaxed without meaning to … relaxed so much she had ended up not only asleep beside him but cuddled up next to him. She bit her lip and felt awkward again. She dared a glance at him - and caught him glancing awkwardly at her. Well … that made her feel better. If they were both awkward ...

She shuffled away from him slightly, trying to ignore how cold she felt now she was sitting up - he must be feeling the cold too, because he pulled his jacket out from under him and put it on. And she tried to ignore the crick in her neck she was aware of, now she was fully awake, and instead tried to focus on giving Angel all the information they had discovered about this Telmar dude the vampire was looking for.
