Chapter 57: Magic Versus Humanity
''LET'S GO,'' Alya shouted.
''MOVE THOSE LEGS, OR ELSE I'LL BIT THEM OFF,'' Erica yelled.
''Erica,'' the other two vampires warned.
The two groups ran up to the bio-ship. What was left of the facility's agents ran after them. Lena, Alya, Miss. Martian, Skylar, Krinos, and Beast Boy all joined Jack in the air.
''Get the bio-ship in the air,'' Lena ordered. ''We can handle these guys.''
''Just don't stay too far behind,'' Roy tells her. ''Then they could follow you back to the cave and this could start all over again.''
''No pressure, then,'' Skylar rolled his horse eyes.
''Just do it,'' Conner yelled at them.
Jack waved his staff, sending a giant wave of ice. Lena flapped her wings, causing a flurry of flower petals and leaves. picked up the pieces of door and wall rubble, with her powers, and threw them. Beast Boy came crashing down from the sky as an elephant, nearly causing a Grand Canyon sized crater. Alya called the spirit of a rhino and went bowling with her body, making a strike. Skylar flew at a near break-neck speed, his golden hooves knocking out agents with a single kick. Krinos took apart his giant vine twist, sending them all through the agents like a tornado through a trailer park.
''Beating up bad guys never gets old,'' Jack smirked.
*****Time Skip To Mount Justice*****
''Out of our way,'' Valerie screamed.
''Beep Beep, coming through,'' Melinda shouts.
The mystics, Nightwing, Huntress, and Beetle nearly flew past the league members that were already in the cave. They passed Batman,Black Canary, and Red Tornado. Phantom and Gold Siren were on stretchers.
''Get them on the beds on the count of three,'' Alya ordered. ''One... two... three.''
At the last number, the injured heroes were put onto two of the medical beds in the infirmary. The adult heroes came in.
''What happened,'' Batman asked.
''A LOT,'' Caitlin yelled/growled.
''What she means is... torture,'' Alain stepped in between. ''Phantom was given long time exposure to a circle of blood blossoms. Siren was hit by sound waves of the same frequency of ectoranium. The Guys In White went to extremes to try and kill them.''
Batman's stone cold face broke for a second, to show his intense rage. Just like his other adopted sons, he cared for them very much. And with them being his first son's brothers, they really held a special place in his heart. He also knew that if they died, it would completely destroy Nightwing. He already lost them once, and did not want to lose them again.
''We'll take them from here,'' Canary told the mystics.
''Like hell you will,'' Sarah snapped.
The league members were taken back by this.
''No offense, but you don't know how to handle this,'' Krinos says. ''You don't know how their mystical DNA will react with scientific medical treatments. Their physiology is completely different from human or alien.''
''Leave this to us,'' Orion said. ''We know what they need.''
The adults accepted that. They left the infirmary, the other three team members behind them.
''Do you think they'll do alright,'' Canary asked the three.
''We've seen them do things that would make even Vandal Savage jealous,'' Dick says. ''If anyone can help my brothers, it's them.''
''They do seem to be more collected than expected,'' Tornado said.
''It's how they train,'' Valerie explained. ''If they lose their heads and panic, their powers could go out of control. Their powers come from their emotions, so they have to be like that in order to halt chaos from coming.''
They all walked away. In the infirmary, Alya took charge. She lifted Phantom's shirt to examine the veins and see how far the blossoms have progressed.
''The poison is almost at his heart,'' she says, most of them now struggling to stay together. ''Lena, try any healing flower or herb in your arsenal to slow it down. Krinos, floral swirl to the Far Frozen and get the antidote from Frostbite. Also warn him, Clockwork, Dani, and Pandora about what's been going on.''
''Right away,'' Lena agreed, moving toward the half-ghost.
''I'm on it,'' Krinos gave a salute, then vanished.
Alya then went over to Siren. The green lines on his skin seemed to be faded slightly, as he was no longer exposed to the sound. But he still looked about to kick the bucket. In other words, no better than his twin.
''He's been exposed to the ectoranium waves for too long,'' she evaluated. ''Alain, cool him down a little before his head burns up even more. Juliet, cast an Apollo spell so we can get his melodies back in harmony... Pardon the pun.''
The werewolf and Camelot witch went to the siren. Alain's hands glowed slightly blue as he put them on Siren's head. His breathing became less frantic and slowed to a more normal rate.
''God Apollo, I pray to thee,'' Juliet cast.
She modified musical waves. She sent golden sound waves over her friend, with her hands. They seemed to counteract the ectoranium and the green lines started fading. Krinos appeared in one of his floral swirls. A vial of blue liquid was in his hands.
''I got the antidote,'' he said. ''Frostbite's also preparing his army, same with Pandora. Dani is practically driving herself crazy with worry. And Clockwork is still as cryptic as ever, yet I did see a hint of worry on his stone cold face.''
Lena took the antidote from her fellow nature user. She poured the entire thing down Phantom's throat. He soon relaxed, his face now looking like he was sleeping instead of a pain induced coma.
''Okay, now what do we do,'' she asked the others.
''What can we do,'' Melinda crosses her arms. ''We've been fighting the Guys In White for months and we're no closer to bringing them down. They just keep backing us up into a corner and forcing us to abandon Earth for the Ghost Zone or Mystic Isles.''
''We could ask the league,'' Skylar suggested. ''They have been helping us.''
''But what can they do,'' Mason asks. ''They could lock them up for violating the Metahuman Protection Act, except that we're not metahumans. We're not even human.''
''If the world finds out just how extensive and real that magic is, it will plunge the world into chaos,'' Caitlin freaked. ''Every mystic and ghost will have to flee for their lives and abandon their duties. That means no nymphs in the forests, no merpeople in the ocean, no ventus in the sky, no demigods against monsters, and no witches against demons. Darkness will rule the earth.''
''Is helping the planet worth the possible extinction of our kinds,'' Krinos says. ''I may be one of the few elemental lords left on this planet, but being a mystic is more important than this world could ever be. You guys are my family.''
''Speaking as someone who has lived through the Salem Witch Trials, and survived, humans finding out about us is very bad,'' Juliet says, still healing Siren. ''Mass hysteria, worldwide panic and fear, modern day witch hunts. The whole nine yards.''
''Now, i'm just the humble spirit of Winter that comes when you guys need help kicking butt,'' Jack said. ''But I still have my duties of bringing Winter to the world.''
''Jack does have a point,'' Alain pointed out, stopping his cold hands before he gave Siren a serious head cold. ''Most of us have duties that can't be ignored. If we leave earth, there most likely won't be an earth to return to.''
''Like I always say,'' Lena says. ''Without magic, nature falls out of harmony. Flowers and trees will wilt and die, entire forests along with them. The ocean's will become increasingly violent before eventually drying up. The skies will darken and wreak havoc on the land. All of humanity would cease to exist.''
''Then, how do we handle this,'' Orion put on hand on his hip. ''My kingdom is panicking. My subjects are falling apart out of worry of being hunted. We had enough of the hunting from when Hercules was chasing after us, thank you very much.''
''The same for the Isle of Wicca,'' Melinda agreed. ''My sister witches have been making triple use of the Calming Draft potion just to keep our powers, and minds, in check.''
''We've tried using fear, but how much can that do,'' Mason says. ''With all the power we have in this room, we must have something we can do.''
''All I normally have to do is flare my fangs to send people running,'' Erica smirked. ''Shame that doesn't work on those wannabe witch hunters.''
''Sarah, you were the one that first suggested that we take lives,'' Caitlin pointed out.
''To be fair, I thought that's what Danny and White meant,'' Sarah said. ''Besides, despite the fact that I don't want to kill, i'm still a vampire. It's in my nature.''
''She's got you there,'' Ethan shrugged. ''Just ask Dracula.''
''Since they were the ones most effected, I say let them choose,'' Jack suggested.
The mystics all looked at their healing friends.
''May the gods be with us,'' Lena prayed.
