Chapter 76
.
Note: Alicia and Lana are from the "Smallville" universe. Kim and Jack are from 24. As for the others, random movies, but I don't want to say too much or it might give away spoilers.
.
The five women that Teri Bauer brought with her back to Antarctica were immediately given orientation. It became clear that they would have to do much hard work to keep their new society functioning and safe. For Kim and Alicia, hard work was acceptable. It didn't sound fun, but they understood the neccessity. The other three women, Alex, Julianna, and Britney, were clearly spoiled, not used to actual hard work. Perhaps this was why they wound up in Hell. They did seem more willing to train with weapons. As much as the ambassador wanted peace with the rest of the world, they knew they needed to be ready for war. After the orientation, Alicia went to search for her old enemy Lana Lang. She knew she had to make amends. Finally, they found each other. Lana was clearly not happy to see Alicia.
.
Lana: What do you want?
Alicia; To apologize.
Lana: You tried to kill me, you think you can make up for that by just saying "I'm sorry."
Alicia: No, but I am sorry for my sins. I'd like to make it up to you somehow.
Lana: How?
Alicia: I don't know. I'm still working on that part.
Lana: I suppose, you were technically insane when you did that. It's possible I can forgive you in time. But for now, I'd prefer for you to keep your distance.
Alicia: I will. But, if you need anything, all you have to do is ask.
.
Kimberly searched for her father. He had gone to great lengths to stop her from being executed. Then, he later murdered her to protect civilians. Now, she needed to see him. Sure enough, he found her eventually. He immediately hugged her, and she returned it.
.
Jack: It's good to see you Kim.
Kim: Good to see you too.
Jack: I'm so sorry about, what I did to you.
Kim: You mean shooting me, killing me. Frankly I did prefer death to going back to prison. Then I realized that Hell is basically a much worse prison.
Jack: I wish I didn't have to, but I did.
Kim: To protect innocent civilians?
Jack: Yes.
Kim: And yet you put civilians in danger sometimes.
Jack: I didn't plan on that. Every soldier has a plan, until the first shot is fired.
Kim: Yeah, I didn't plan on people dying, the second time. But things got out of hand, you know how it went. Mom went back to help Bianca and Liv.
Jack: I heard.
Kim: Guess she's a lot like you. Cares more about random civilians than her own child. Me, I'm selfish.
.
Kim then turned her gun on her own father.
.
Jack: You want to kill me?
Kim: I want revenge. I killed Ira Gaines, Victor Drazen. Nina and I agreed to a temporary truce, but we have a duel scheduled.
Jack: Has that made you feel better?
Kim: A little.
Jack: I won't kill you again. I've had to live with what I did the rest of my life, I can't go through that again. You want to shoot, go ahead.
.
Despite what her father had done, despite her continuing need for vengeance, she hesitated to kill him. Jack closed his eyes, and then heard the gunshot. But this was not Kim shooting her father, it was another man shooting Kim. This man shot Kim in the leg. Before he could stop her Kim pushed a mysterious button, and dissapeared. Kimberly's friends Alex, Britney, and Julianna also dissapeared from the shooting range where they had been practicing. Jack looked at the other man, and recognized him. It was Syed Ali, a terrorist who tried to blow up Los Angelas with a nuclear bomb. Jack tortured Syed, forced him to give up intel. Then Jack uncovered evidence that Syed's government was being framed, and prevented a war between the two countries. Syed must have escaped the afterlife, for him it would have most likely been a version of Hell, and in all the confusion wound up back in Antarctica.
.
Syed: Are you alright?
Jack: Why would you save me?
Syed: You made me believe that you had my child murdered. But, in the last minute of my life, you let me know the truth, that my child was alive. And you prevented a war, probably saved my family. But now we are even. I owe you nothing and you owe me nothing. I supposse, we were both wrong about what was good and evil.
Jack: No kidding. I was just betrayed by my own daughter, and saved by an enemy.
