I HC that after a while, Drakken and James would become friends again, once Drakken mellowed a bit and James realized it isn't cool to bully your friends. Mention of serious illness. –N
James cleared his throat and nodded and Drakken's shaking leg. "You ok?"
Drakken put a hand on his thigh, stilling it. "Just … thinking."
"About Shego?" Drakken nodded and James added, "You want to talk about it?"
Drakken shook his head and clasped his hands together in his lap. Shego was still going through chemo treatments, was home alone and sick and he was here miles away at a robotics conference in Montreal and –
Focus on breathing. In, out.
She and James together had convinced him to go, and it seemed like the journey would pay off after all. The two of them had been asked by the new CEO of Loyoka Tech to talk about their work over lunch, a possible break in both of their careers.
Presently, Terrell Parker slipped into the seat across from Drakken and James. "Hello, gentlemen. How are you both today?"
Drakken opened his mouth to answer when his phone buzzed against his thigh. A quick glance at his screen while James spoke instead showed him it was Kim Possible calling.
And the only reason he could think of for Kim calling right now was that there was something wrong with Shego.
Drakken stood, earning himself a frown from Parker and James both. "S-Sorry. I, er, phone call." He dashed away into the small hallway outside the bathroom and pressed the phone to his ear. "Hello?"
"Can you get back here fast?"
He hadn't even realized he was dizzy until he'd already sat on the bench in the hallway. "What is it?"
"Shego's blind. She's not in pain but … Drakken, she can't see."
Shitshitshit. Drakken squeezed his eyes shut tight. "I'll be there as soon as I can." Drakken hung up the phone without saying another word and raced back out to where James and Parker were sitting. James glanced up at him and asked, "Was that Shego?"
Words caught in his throat so that all Drakken could do was shake his head. At last he forced out, "Kim."
"Is Shego ok?"
Again, it took some effort for Drakken to speak. "She – I have to go back."
"Ok. Let's go."
"Sirs," Parker interrupted. "If you leave now, you won't be able to get an opportunity like this again."
For a brief moment, Drakken worried James would choose to stay. How would he get home then, without James' car? And how much more time did it take?
But the fleeting worry vanished when James stood, his keys already in his hands. "I'll drive," he said.
