-Day 58: Misaki Usui-
Misaki Usui stared at the confusion of files she had been trying to organize for the past four days. Nothing in her new office was organized where she or anyone else could quickly locate what they needed urgently. Documents were placed in cabinets they didn't belong to, old documents that needed updating, shredded, or placed in storage for future use were all over the place, and new important documents were misplaced in the chaos. Clearly, the person before her left her with a mountain of work to do.
She wondered if only her office was in this state? She had found one of the issues with the embassy. Of course, the information would not be provided on time if it was not organized. How did they not think to fix this right away or why did they think it was acceptable to let it get to this point?
Misaki rubbed her templed already feeling stressed but this was her fifth day here. She was trying not to change up things this early and wanted to see how they worked before she brought in any changes but this was unacceptable. This task was important for her and she would not sit by and let this place continue to sink any deeper.
She pressed the intercom for the new assistant she recently hired.
"Yes, Mrs. Usui. How can I help?" Bridget George asked Misaki from her desk right outside the office.
"Send a message out to everyone for an urgent meeting in the next ten minutes. We'll meet in the first conference room. No one should miss out," Misaki said.
"Will do ma'am," Bridget answered already starting up the email to send out. "Would that be all?"
"Yes, please. Thank you," Misaki politely answered and then put down the phone. She sat down in her chair mentally preparing for this upcoming meeting she set up. Changes were needed for the embassy to thrive. This wasn't a business where issues like this should've been overlooked. Had they forgotten how important their roles were? Or did they just slack off because no one was here properly overlooking their mistakes?
Whatever the reason was, it would change from today.
Ten minutes later...
Misaki stood in front of the entire staff in the conference room. Most sat down while she stood on the small stage.
"Good morning," She started off. "As everyone should know by now, I was stationed here for the next year to oversee and fix the issues the embassy has been experiencing. I have been here for five days now observing to see how everyone works and how efficiently tasks are being completed. Being the Japanese embassy here in the UK, we are the voice of Japan to the officials here. How could there be communication from us if we don't have this place in order? Nothing is as it should be."
"If there was an emergency right now, we would be in trouble. We'd be running around frantically trying to find information that is here but not placed where it would be easily accessible. I am putting a hold on any task which needed to be done today. Today is all about organizing. I want every file that is important to be easily accessible where it should not take you more than seven minutes to find. If there is a document you use frequently but yet it takes you too much time to find, then it is being stored in the wrong place," Misaki said sternly. There was a hint of anger in her voice because of the state they were working in. "Set yourself up for success. I want all of you to go back and completely do a run-through of your offices and storage areas. All deadlines for today will be pushed back to tomorrow. I will check each and every office by the end of the day."
"I believe in giving everyone a chance but those who don't put in the work for this embassy to progress as it should be will be let go. Good day," Misaki bid goodbye then proceeded to walk off the small stage. The sound of her heels echoed throughout the room but then decreased when there was chatter amongst the workers.
Bridget was hot on Misaki's heels in case she needed anything else. She wondered how everyone took the threat of either doing their job properly or be fired. Bridget could hear the sound of someone following behind her and Misaki so she looked back to see the man she knew as Kei Sato.
"Mrs. Usui, it seems like someone wants to speak with you," Bridget said.
Misaki stopped and looked around to see someone behind her other than Bridget. "Hello," She greeted the man. "Kei Sato?" She questioned. Misaki was trying her best to remember everyone's name.
"Yes. If you don't mind, I would like to speak on the behalf of my coworkers," Kei requested since she was his superior. He proceeded when Misaki gave him the ok to speak freely, "You might not be aware but we already have a load of work to do and taking time off to-"
"I didn't give anyone time off. I told everyone to organize their offices and submit any deadlines tomorrow. You haven't stopped working today," Misaki clarified for him.
Kei stared at the woman he knew wouldn't last long. "They are people who deal with organizing in here we, on the other hand, have important work to do."
"Why should someone else come in and do that for you when you were the one who created the mess? Who better to fix the problem than the people who caused it. If I ask for a case I don't believe I should wait an entire day just because the person is taking too long to find it. It's slowing down our work. It might seem tiring now but it will be much more effective in the future. I will see your office later," Misaki said before she turned to walk away and head back to her office.
"I don't disagree with her. I was panicking when she first hired me and had to run all over to find something. Each department sent me to another," Bridget commented.
"She's only here because of her connections with the raven castle. No different than the last person. I'm sure you'll see how useless she is soon," Kei said a little too loudly as Misaki heard him even though she was walking away.
Misaki gripped her fists and turned around to go back to Kei and Bridget. "I don't care what reason you or anyone else thinks about me being here. This is my job and I take this position very seriously. My last name does nothing when I step in here as it's all my hard work. For the next year get used to hearing Misaki Usui. As I've stated earlier, go organize your office."
A/N: Honestly, I need a Misaki in the government buildings here in Barbados so they work better. Bridget (the first name which came to my head) speaks Japanese. When Misaki or Takumi etc speaks English I'll put it in italics
The next chapter is Day 59: Dinner date part 2 (Wednesday)
