Chapter 48
The Demoness of Fairy Tail
Mirajane
Mystogan picked himself up off the ground next to me. It disappointed me that Mystogan got here first and warmed Laxus up for me. I wanted to beat Laxus at his best, and I had no doubt that Mystogan put the hurt on Laxus. Regardless, I would be the one to finish that punk.
"I'll handle things from here." I told Mystogan.
I expected him to argue against this, but instead he said, "Got it, good luck. In that form he's way more powerful."
As Laxus got up from the rubble, I realized what he meant. He was covered in light yellow, dragon-like scales. I recognized this form as something called Dragon Force. It was the result of him using the power granted to him by the lightning dragon lacrima. It was the only way for him to use Dragon Slayer Magic and forbidden for him to use. The fact that he was using that only served to make me even more angry.
"Master warned you not to use that." I hissed at him.
Laxus smirked back at me and said, "He isn't going to me Master for long. Now how about you step aside like a good girl and let the men finish talking."
My right eye twitched in annoyance. Did he seriously think saying that would get me off his back? He knows me, right?
I rocketed forward and prepared to punch him. He activated his lightning body to try and avoid me, but thanks to Satan Soul, I was able to keep pace with him and land my blow. Having created a small opening for myself, I charged and fired a blast of darkness magic at Laxus for some additional damage. Just as I suspected though, he just shrugged it off and punched me in the gut. Like him though, I was able to shrug it off quite easily.
"Why are you even fighting?" Laxus asked, "The whole point of this tournament is to weed out the weaklings! You've already secured your spot in my new guild."
"Like hell I'd want to be in a guild like that!" I retorted, throwing another fist at Laxus.
Laxus seemed surprised by my response because he made no effort to block my punch. It didn't do much to hurt him though and stung my fist in the process. He grabbed my outstretched arm and looked me in the eyes.
"Are you trying to say you would leave me?"
I didn't crack under his gaze, no matter how feral and scary it was, "You turned my little sister to stone and forced all my friends to fight each other. What do you think?"
Laxus swung me around and let go in an effort to launch me away, but I was able to stop the momentum quite easily with a mix of skill and the ability to fly.
"Fine then, if that's how it's going to be, I don't need you in my guild anyways!" Laxus slammed his fists together, "Lightning Dragon's Roar!"
I quickly threw my arms apart and charged up as much magic as possible in my palms. An orb of darkness magic formed in my palms as Laxus released his roar on me. I threw my hands forward and fired my own spell to counter him.
"Soul Extinctor!"
Our two attacks collided in a massive explosion that shook the very foundation of Kardia Cathedral. The force from the impact stunned me momentarily. With the dust covering the area, I couldn't see Laxus. I braced myself, knowing that he could still track me down with his superior sense of smell. The strike never came though, and as the dust settled, I found that he too was in a defensive position. I noticed the yellow on his scales was beginning to fade and some were even chipping off.
I looked over to Mystogan, to make sure he didn't get hurt in the crossfire, but he seemed fine. He was focusing on our fight while doing something with his staves. The impact however left his clothing disheveled, and his mask was somewhat crooked. for the first time ever, I could see the color of his hair. It was blue.
"Guess that makes sense. He is Wendy's brother."
Laxus took my surveying of the surroundings to mean I had dropped my guard and came dashing at me as fast as he could. He wasn't fast enough though. His speed seemed to have dropped considerably from when the fight first started. I was easily able to dodge out of the way and punch him square in the face, and follow up with a kick to the torso, knocking him away.
He managed to catch himself but remained in a crouching position for longer than I would have expected. He was breathing heavily, and the deterioration of his scales was accelerating fast. It was time for me to end this.
That's what I wanted to do, but at that moment, Mystogan's staves flew towards Laxus and planted themselves in the ground around him. Laxus looked up in surprise.
"This ends here." Mystogan said, "Thank you, Mirajane for your assistance. I'll take it from here."
Before I could object, Mystogan unleashed his spell. Lightning formed around his staves as five magic circles appeared above Laxus. A massive amount of magic gathered around the staves and magic circles.
"Five Layered Magic Circle: Sacred Song!" A large beam of magic shot down from the magic circles directly onto Laxus. Laxus made no attempt to dodge or protect against the attack. I could only assume this was because he was totally worn out by our fight. An explosion rang out as I shielded my eyes from the impact. Once the dust had settled, Laxus laid on the ground unconscious.
"You stole my kill."
Mystogan ignored me and went over to Laxus and his staves. He pulled the staves from the ground and placed them on his back, before going to collect Laxus.
"All that matters is that Laxus was defeated."
I crossed my arms and shot a glare at Mystogan. I really wanted to be the one to defeat Laxus.
"Aw man, it's already over!" came the voice of Natsu.
Mystogan and I turned around to see Natsu, Wendy, Happy, and Carla at the entrance of the Cathedral. Natsu looked bummed out that he missed the fight. He was probably hoping to take a crack at Laxus, not that he would be able to do much. Laxus is much stronger than Natsu.
"I told you Mystogan would be able to handle it." Wendy said.
"Looks like Mira had to help him though."
"I take this to mean you both defeated Freed?" I asked as I exited my Satan Soul.
Natsu gave me a thumbs up, "It was a piece of cake!"
Wendy walked forward towards Mystogan, only to trip on some rubble. She let out a cute scream as she crashed onto the floor face first. I could help but giggle at the girl's humorous misfortune. She recovered quickly though.
"Do you want me to heal him?"
"Absolutely not." I answered, "He can heal up the old-fashioned way."
Wendy looked to Mystogan for confirmation, "I'm not getting into another fight with another S-Class. Let's just get him back to the guild and let Porlyusica take care of him."
I smiled. I wasn't sure what kind of magic Mystogan really used. I never really got the chance to survey his abilities, but the fact that he acknowledged that I could give him a run for his money was a welcoming revelation.
We began to make our way out of the Cathedral. I looked back one last time and marveled at the damage we managed to do to it. Several pillars were destroyed, the marble tiles were lifted from their place and destroyed, the altar was reduced to rubble, the windows were shattered, and parts of the roof had fallen. No doubt the guild would have to pay for repairs, and it wouldn't be cheap.
We arrived back at the guild in no time. Most of our guildmates were already back and nursing the wounds they received from their own encounters. I noticed that Erza, Shô, and Siegrain were among the people helping to care for the injured. Wendy immediately made her way over to a group of injured people and started healing them. Mystogan meanwhile took Laxus back to the infirmary to rest up.
I didn't see Lisanna or Elfman around, so I decided to follow Natsu over to Erza.
"Erza, you should have seen it, Wendy and I wiped to floor with Freed!"
Erza, who was busy wrapping bandages around someone's arm, looked up and gave Natsu a smile. I could see the pain behind it though. I got the sense that she still felt bad about what happened. It was rare, but I actually felt bad for her. She was manipulated into working for Jellal and tricked into thinking her only family was dead. I would be devastated too if I thought I lost even one of my siblings.
"That's great, Natsu. I'm glad to hear that." She replied.
"Say, are you going to be in the parade tonight?" Natsu asked.
Erza shook her head no, "I haven't had any time to practice anything. Plus, I can't use my magic."
"Can't they make an exception?"
Siegrain, who was listening in piped up and said, "Absolutely not. She's lucky to even be here."
Erza looked away embarrassed. I decided to grab her hand and hoist her towards me.
"Me and a few of the girls are going to be doing a dance routine. How about you join us? It's really easy."
Erza looked at me in surprise. She probably expected that I would be the last person to suggest something like that.
"Um…sure."
"Well, then we need to get practicing!" I began to pull Erza away, "I'm going to be borrowing your sister for a while."
Natsu seemed surprised as well, "Um…okay.
