It was just before dawn. Brian was with a group of twenty wildlings under the command of Tormund, who were sent ahead of Mance's main army to scale the Wall and attack Castle Black from behind. While the men of Castle Black were occupied with them, Mance and the rest of the army would attack from the front. Mance had sent Brian with Tormund's party in order to test the direwolf's loyalty. He had instructed Tormund to kill Brian if Brian showed signs of wavering.

"So, how are the defenses on the Wall?" the warg Orell asked Brian. "I've seen through the eyes of my eagle that there are patrols on top of the Wall. I'm not sure how frequent they are, though."

Brian said, "We usually send out patrols in teams of four, two builders to inspect for structural damage and two rangers to protect them."

"And how often do they go out?" Orell asked.

Brian shrugged. "There's no set schedule as far as I can tell. Of course, I wasn't there for very long."

"Tell me this," said Orell. "I know there are nineteen castles along the Wall, but how many of them are currently manned?"

"Well, there's Castle Black, of course, and then Eastwatch at the extreme eastern end, and the Shadow Tower at the western end. That's it."

Tormund guffawed. "Har! Only three occupied? Looks like this is the perfect time for us to invade, then! That is, if you're tellin' the truth."

"Oh, I am," Brian assured him.

"So, how many men are livin' in Castle Black right now?" Tormund asked.

When Brian didn't answer right away, Orell said, "Tell us now or I'll warg into my eagle and tear your eyes out!"

"Okay, okay! There are one thousand men!" This was a blatant exaggeration, as there had only been six hundred before the Great Ranging, and now it was closer to three hundred.

Tormund shook his head. "I like you, Brian, but if I find out you're lyin', I'll rip your guts out through your throat."

Ygritte defended Brian. "I'm sure 'e's tellin' the truth. 'E may not be very smart, but 'e's sincere. I saw 'im kill the 'Alf'and with my own eyes. 'E wouldn't 'ave done that if 'e was still loyal to the Watch!"

"Looks like somebody's in love!" Tormund teased. Brian blushed at this.

In the woods just south of the Wall, Stewie woke up.

"I just had another dream about Brian," he told Dipper and Mabel. "He was with some wildlings."

"Was he their prisoner or something?" Dipper asked.

Stewie shook his head. "No, that was the weird part. From their talking, it seemed like Brian had betrayed the Night's Watch and joined up with the wildlings. But Brian wouldn't do that, would he?" He paused. "Well, maybe if he met a hot wildling girl."

"I wonder if that's what made Mance Radar change sides," Mabel said.

"Did you see everything through Brian's eyes, like in the other dream you told us about?" Dipper asked.

Stewie nodded. "You said people who could see real events in their dreams were called greenseers. Can you tell me more about them?"

Dipper pulled the journal out of his backpack and read aloud from it. "Greenseer is the title given to people who possess the magical ability to perceive future, past, or present events in dreams known as Green Dreams. According to legend, greenseers were much respected by the Children of the Forest."

"I've heard about the Children of the Forest," said Stewie. "They were the creatures who lived in Westeros before humans came. The fat man- I mean, my father Peter- used to tell me stories about them, but he always said they were fiction. 'Made-up garbage' is the phrase I believe he used."

"Grunkle Stan says the Children are made up garbage too," said Mabel. "But I don't know about that." She sighed. "It would be so cool if I could see them. I heard they can do magic!"

"And the book says greenseers are often wargs too," Dipper went on.

"What the deuce is a warg?" Stewie asked. "Is that like a direwolf?"

Dipper flipped to another page. "No, a warg is a person who can inhabit the bodies of animals, or even other people, and control their actions. It says here, 'Often a warg will discover his or her abilities when he or she has dreams about being another person, and seeing things from their point of view. Then, they begin entering others' bodies even when they are awake."

Stewie's eyes shone. "I say, that would be marvelous. If I could do that, it wouldn't matter that I couldn't walk anymore. I could just use someone else's body when I wanted to walk!"

Mabel shuddered. "That sounds creepy. I wouldn't want someone going into my body without me knowing it."

Stewie patted her hand. "Well, don't worry. If I turn out to be a warg, I won't ever possess you."

"The sun is coming up," said Dipper. "I think it's time to get going again."

"Hodor," said Hodor as he picked Stewie up.

Stewie stared at the big man's face. He was imagining what it would be like if he was able to warg into Hodor. "With my brains and his brawn, together we could make up an ideal knight," he thought.
