Heyy guys, here's another chapter for you. I Hope you had a Merry Christmas everyone! Here's wishing you a Happy New Year! Enjoy.

Chapter 46

George hung up with a growl. No doubt Vasily didn't heed his warning about the naval officer. He was

sure it was that sailor who answered the phone, taunting him.

Dennis noticed the mood change instantly. He looked at Julianne and prepared himself for anything. He

was so mentally focused on making his peace with God that literally jumped when George growled.

But George was too angry to notice. He slammed his fist down on the small table, totally ignoring the

flying ice bucket and falling items. He went on a verbal tirade in Russian. He finally turned to the

attorney. "Dennis, do you have a car here?"

"Huh?"

George tried to calm himself and concentrated on speaking English clearly. "Do you have a car here?"

"Yes. Why?"

"I need to get to New Bruswick."

"Whatever for?"

"I'm going to murder the Navy son-of-a-bitch myself. He killed my brother!"

Steve and Catherine settled into their new room. Melissa managed to get another 'family' bed from

Maternity. They were bed, watching the local late night news. When Catherine started to softly snore,

Steve turned the television off. The small movement made Catherine snuggle closer to him. Steve laid

awake, thinking.

Meanwhile, across the hallway…

Chin had taken a shower and put on the pajamas, slippers and robe Nurse Melissa provided. Before

turning in, he decided to double check security. After doing so, he stopped by the nurses' station.

"How are you ladies after this evening's events? Chin asked with a concerned tone and matching smile.

Melissa leaned back in her chair and sighed. "I've never been so scared in my life and I was a combat

nurse in Desert Storm!"

Karen visibly paled. "Luka was so nice, so helpful. I can't believe he was a killer." She met Chin's gaze.

"Do you think he would have killed us too?"

Chin sighed. "He probably would have left, just left. But if you saw him, tried to stop him…he probably

wouldn't hesitate to shoot anybody down."

Karen swallowed hard.

Melissa chuckled.

"Hey, I've never been under fire."

"Good thing. I'm pretty sure you'd faint."

Chin enjoyed their banter. He noticed the lights in McGarrett's room were out. He decided to go to bed

as the guard officer had things well in hand.

"Good morning, Commander McGarrett. Did you sleep well?" Jenny greeted Steve a little after sunrise.

"You have a BIG schedule change for today. Good morning, Miss Catherine. How did you sleep?"

Steve blinked the sleep from his eyes. "Good morning, Miss Jenny. How are you today?"

Catherine stretched and yawned. "Good morning." She turned to Steve. "Good morning, Mustang."

She kissed his cheek. "You didn't sleep much, did you." A stated fact not an accusation.

Steve smiled weakly. "I slept."

"A-ha." Catherine knew him too well for that story. She got out of bed and head for the bathroom.

Steve watched her go then looked at the nurse, who busying herself with his morning vitals. "So, what's

the change for today?"

"You're going to see Dr. Lionel, start your dental restoration." Jenny said with a bright smile and a wink.

Steve looked up suddenly. "Yeah? Where am I going?"

"Dental clinic, second floor. You can dress or go in robe and pajamas. But you're going in a wheelchair."

Steve opened his mouth to protest but Jenny cut him off. "Hospital policy."

Steve closed his mouth as quick as he opened it.

Catherine rejoined them. "So?"

"I'm seeing Dr. Lionel today!" Steve said excitedly. He turned to Jenny. "May I have a shower?"

"I'll get you an orderly." Jenny said as she packed up her vitals kit.

Steve made an annoyed face.

Danny gently knocked and stuck his head in. Catherine waved him in. He stood quietly aside.

"I'll help him. I need a shower too." Catherine said with smile. "I know to keep his head out of the

water."

"Then l can't wash my hair!"

Danny had to put his two cents worth in. "Use dry shampoo, ya goof."

"'Dry shampoo'?" Steve frowned. "Sounds like an oxymoron."

"Yea, like 'military intelligence'." Danny quipped with a bright smile and laughing eyes.

Steve shot him a dirty look. "You're funny. What hell is dry shampoo?!"

Jenny shook her head at the men. "I'll get you a bottle, Mr. Steve. You just spray it in and brush your

hair really well. Then style as usual." An afterthought. "Then wash out the brush real good and let it air

dry."

Steve rolled his eyes.

"Any scent preference?"

"Got anything Coconutty? Pineapplely? Banana-y?" That would be perfect!" Danny pronounced.

"UNSCENTED." Steve raised his voice firmly, his eyes challenging.

Danny held his hands up in mock surrender and mischievous smile.

"Okay. I'll send in some towels and body wash for you two. And some unscented dry shampoo. Do you

need a razor or hair brush Mr. Steve? Miss Catherine?" Jenny politely settled the fake debate.

"My assistant brought my kit to me, I'm covered."

"I have my own, thanks." Catherine was already gathering her things.

"Good. You two get started. You are due in 's office at 11:00 a.m."

"Yes, ma'am." Steve saluted.

"A minute, Steve-o?"

"Sure Danno."

Danny's playful mood turned cold. "Hey, only my daughter is authorized to call me that."

"No one is authorized to call me anything but Steve, Steven, Sir or Commander."

"Understood, Steven."

The men exchanged head nods, bowing to each other's preferences.

Catherine and Jenny exchanged amused looks. Jenny spoke up. "How many coffees do we need here?"

"Just two." Danny said cheerfully. "I'm going to go get Chin out of bed."

Jenny and the detective left the room. The couple then retired to the bathroom.

"Thank you so much, Cat." Steve whispered in Catherine's ear as she started the shower.

Catherine smiled. Steve was a bit of an exhibitionist but something had made him unusually modest.

"I hate hospitals, the lack of personal privacy. They watch you do everything." Steve complained.

"Thank God they gave me PJs because those gowns are immodest AND drafty."

Catherine just smiled. Steve was on a roll and it was better to let him vent than arguing with him.

"Okay sailor, strip down and put this shower cap on."

"Whatever you say, lieutenant…wait, what? Steve stammered. He looked at the clear shower cap

Catherine put in his hands stupidly. "Cat? What the…?"

"Your scalp can't get wet yet. The shower cap keeps your stitches dry – guaranteed."

"C'mon Cat…"

"Don't waste time with 'c'mon Cat'!' Catherine stood with her arms folded, a non-compromising look

on her face.

Steve knew the look well. He took the shower cap from Catherine with a sour look. He put the shower

cap on and tucked his hair in with a silly grin on his face.

Catherine smiled in spite of herself. "Get in the shower, pretty boy, or I'll go get the orderly."

Without further complaining, Steve stripped and got in the shower. Catherine quickly disrobed and

joined him.

"If you start feeling light-headed, say something, please."

"Affirmative, but I'm feeling, what's the opposite of …"

"Yes, but we've got to keep moving, no time to …"

Steve took Catherine into his arms. "Shhh. Don't waste time with false protests."

Catherine sighed and wrapped her arms around Steve's neck. "God knows I've missed you. My God, I

thought I lost you."

"Never." Steve kissed her neck hungrily. "Never, I'll always come home to you."

Danny crossed the hall and knocked on the door then poked his head in Kelley's room. "Chin, you

awake?"

"Good morning, boss." Chin was sitting at small table, eating breakfast. "Coffee, sir? I have an extra

cup and the nurses gave me an entire pot."

"God bless nurses, angels of mercy all." Danny poured himself a cup and sat down across from Kelley.

"Pancakes?"

"French toast and bacon. Not bad for 'hospital food'."

"All quiet here last night?"

"Yes. But the staff was shaken up. I think they felt a bit better with two cops here."

Jenny knocked and entered. "I bought you a breakfast tray, Sergeant Williams."

"I doubt I'll have the time …"

"You will. Mr. Steve and Miss Catherine just got in the shower. I'm sure you'll have ample time." She

set the tray down in front of Danny and lifted the lid. "Enjoy." She looked at Chin Ho. "Seconds?"

"No, thank you. I'll go back to bed." Chin laughed.

Jenny smiled. "If you want seconds Sergeant, just hit the call button." Another bright smile and she was

gone.

"A real sweetheart, that one."

"Agreed." Danny said between bites.

"Sir, do you think that was George Federchuk on the phone?"

Danny nodded as he chewed. "I do. I think he thought his brother, his big brother, would take Steve

out. With no body but Ms. Lynn to testify, he'd be a free man."

"You don't think Lynn could convince a jury by herself?"

"No, I don't. I think she'd 'disappear'."

Chin nodded. "You probably right; by her choice or someone else's."

Danny pointed his fork at Kelley. "Exactly."

"Think George will try to kill Steve himself?"

"He got lucky once. Steve will be ready for him; he got caught flat footed last time. George would be a

damned fool to try again; but then again he doesn't have a choice in his mind."

"So, be on the lookout."

Danny finished his breakfast. "Five will get you ten, George is on his way here, I'm sure of it, feel it in my

bones. I'll be around and the others are on the way, plus we have a half dozen roving troopers. You stick

to McGarrett and Rollins like their shadows. I wouldn't put in past the big ape to hurt Catherine

somehow to draw Steve out. Keep them close and together."

"I will sir, you can count on me."

"We'll be ready for him. Let's try to keep the staff safe."

888888888888888888888888888888888888888

Catherine sprayed the dry shampoo on Steve's hair and then his brush. "Sit still, you're worse than a

child."

Steve grinned, he loved playfully annoying Catherine. He squirmed happily in the wheelchair.

"Be still!" Catherine softly popped the top of Steve's head. "We got to go."

Steve laughed. "Okay, okay Cat. I'll behave."

"Of course you will. I can see our children making pie crust promises, just like their father."

Steve turned around with questioning eyes.

"Pie crust promise: easy to make and easier to break."

Steve sat forwarded, pleased with himself.

Jenny came in, pushing a different wheelchair. "You ready, Mr. Steve? I got you a reclining wheelchair

in case Dr. Lionel prefers it. "

"We're ready." Catherine said quickly, cutting Steve's protest off.

"Enjoy your shower?"

"Until the hot water ran out." Steve said with a smile.

"Shush." Catherine warned him, blushing.

"You clean up nice, Mr. Steve."

"Thank you, Miss Jenny. I figured Dr. Lionel would enjoy a smooth face to work with instead." Steve

grinned. "My face went into shock. I haven't shaved for almost three weeks. My face feels cold."

"You looked better clean shaven." Catherine said.

"You look better, younger." Jenny was a beat behind Catherine.

Chin appeared at the door. "Are you two ready to go to the second floor?"

"Let's go." Steve and Catherine said together.

Chin walked with Catherine pushing the wheelchair.

"An armed escort?" Steve asked.

"Something like that, boss insisted."

"Makes me feel better." Catherine said quietly, hoping it would nip any protest from the naval officer in

the bud.

"Welcome aboard, Chin Ho." Steve said with a closed smile.
