Silver Beast: A Needed Break

As soon as school was over he headed to the store. There he picked up a few items to create the perfect date. Once he had everything he needed he snuck over to the Reservation. Knowing Kagome was likely already home doing school work he stealthily jumped up to her rooftop. There he laid out a blanket, candles, rose petals and a light spread of finger sandwiches, fruit, cheese and sparkling grape juice. As soon as the sun began to sink behind the horizon he lit the candles and snuck down to her bedroom window. He smiled when he saw her diligently working away at her desk. He thought she looked beautiful. Even though her hair was in a messy bun and was dressed in lounge wear. Her relaxed appearance made him feel at home. Not wanting to break the windowsill with his weight he sat on a nearby tree branch and lightly tapped on the glass. His heart fluttered when he saw the most beautiful smile brighten her face.

"There you are! I was wondering when you'd get here." Kagome giggled as she pushed open her window.

"Sorry, I had to do something first." Inuyasha said as he leaned in to kiss her lips.

He purred when he felt her arms wrap around his neck to deepen their kiss. Not wanting to leave the candles unattended for long he reluctantly sat back on the branch.

"Where's your backpack?" Kagome asked as he adjusted his weight on the tree branch so he wouldn't fall.

"I finished the work I needed to have done for tomorrow in detention." Inuyasha said as he held out his hand for her to take. "Do you think you could spare a minute or two away from your work? I want to show you something."

"Sure!" Kagome smiled as she accepted his hand. "Do I need my shoes for where we are going?"

"Nah, it's not too far." Inuyasha smirked as he picked her up in his arms and leapt up onto the roof. His grin widened when he heard Kagome gasp in awe.

"Inuyasha?" Kagome awed with shimmering blue eyes. "What's all this?"

"I haven't exactly been the greatest of boyfriends lately." Inuyasha apologized as he pulled her towards the blanket covered in rose petals. "I wanted to apologize for making you worry and for not being ready to tell you about what happened."

"Yash, you didn't have to do all this!" Kagome exclaimed as she admired the view of the sunset with the twinkling candles.

"I know, but we haven't really had a proper date yet either." Inuyasha shrugged as he popped the top off the sparkling grape juice. "So, do you like it?"

"I love it!" Kagome giggled as she accepted the glass of juice. "Is this where you've been all afternoon?"

"Yeah. I uh... wanted to make it perfect. Since I messed up prom and everything." Inuyasha blushed as he reached into the picnic basket for their dinner.

"You didn't mess up prom." Kagome said as she helped him set out the fruit, cheese and sandwiches. "You just had a lot going on."

"That still doesn't give me an excuse for being an ass to you." Inuyasha scoffed before popping one of the finger sandwiches into his mouth. "You deserve better than that."

"True, but I still enjoyed myself." Kagome said as she leaned into his side and rested her head on his shoulder. "Dancing with you, Miroku and Sango was so much fun. Then afterwards behind the building and watching the movie at my house together was pretty special."

"Yeah, it was." Inuyasha agreed as he nuzzled into her hair.

As they enjoyed their light refreshments they talked about school, upcoming graduation, her birthday and their plans for the future. Apparently neither of them had much ambition to go onto university. They weren't big fans of school or crowds and were comfortable with the lives they had. Inuyasha found it interesting that Kagome wanted to open up her own book store. He thought her dreams and ambitions were great. At one point he'd thought about opening up his own business. Only problem was he didn't know what kind of business to focus on. Although he was still figuring out his future he promised to do whatever it took to make her dream come true. It felt nice snuggling on the roof together. The relaxed atmosphere didn't make them feel pressured for time or the need to act a certain way. They talked about anything and everything and laughed at the stupidest of jokes. For hours Kagome star gazed against Inuyasha's side.

She was shocked to learn that he'd never star gazed before. After being reminded of his parents horrible untimely death she made an effort to teach him every constellation in the sky she knew. At first he had a hard time connecting the dots but after a while he was quickly making up his own. She was amazed at how creative his mind was. He came up with crazy intricate images in the sky she'd never imagined to see. As the candles started getting lower Inuyasha surprised her with a dance. Kagome's heart overflowed with love for him as they danced under the stars. The intimate closeness of his heart beating under her ear, the warmth of his body pressed against hers and his arms protectively wrapped around her waist was everything she wanted and more. She smiled when she heard his calming purr and felt his arms tighten around her. It made her happy knowing he was equally touched by the magical moment.

They could have danced like that forever. Even when the candles had completely burnt out they didn't stop dancing. It was only when Inuyasha stole a kiss that they finally turned in for the night. As their kisses intensified Inuyasha hooked her legs around his waist and quietly made his way down to Kagome's room. There he worshiped her the rest of the night with intimate touches and passionate kisses. Being together like this was just what they needed to reconnect as a couple. It made their bond tighter and their feelings grow stronger. Although they weren't able to fully connect as lovers his seed spilling onto her stomach was still very satisfying. After a few more tender kisses they fell asleep in each other's arms. As they dreamed Inuyasha held her close with her back to his chest and his arm protectively curled around her waist. There was no place he'd rather be. It was the perfect way to end a perfect night.

All except the angry, jealous, red eyes staring in from the window.
