Series 2, Episode 89 ~ House of The Chosen

Nina carefully removed the Mask from its pedestal, turning around to look at the empty chamber behind her and her friends.

"Senkhara!" she yelled out into the room knowing the spirit would be able to hear her. "I have the Mask. Come and get it!"

From across the board, the spirit appeared with her normal menacing laugh.

Joy let out an involuntary yelp as she finally saw the spirit, they had all been dealing with. Her noise was ignored as the spirit glided across the chamber, looking hungrily at the Mask.

"how come we can all see Senkhara now?" Amber whispered to Nina as she glanced at the spirit in fear. Normally she only saw the woman in her dreams knowing she could see the woman live in-person made things even spookier for her.

Nina let out a sigh, "Senkhara is getting what she wants," the American explained her eyes not leaving the spirit, "she doesn't care who sees her now."

Senkhara stood in front of the group and the three girls couldn't help but notice her smile was chilling. It didn't reach the woman's eyes and made them all feel like she was a predator who had cornered her prey and those three were the prey. "finally," she breathed looking down at the mask in Nina's hands, "it is mine!" Her smile dropped as a glare crossed her features instead as she looked up from the mask to The Chosen One who was holding it. "Now put it on." She ordered.

Nina took a step back her eyes widening, "what?!"

Senkhara repeated herself darkly, "Put it on!"

"Don't put it on," Joy whispered, shuddering slightly. The whole vibe she was getting from the conversation being wrong.

"Why does she want you to put it on?!" Amber cried out slightly. She knew deep down if Nina put it on something bad would happen to Nina. Where was Camilla to protect them when they needed her?

Nina glanced between the girls before looking to the looming spirit. With shaking hands, she raised the mask towards her face.

As if Amber's silent prayers to the gods the twins loved so much had been answered The Rutters came flying into the chamber.

"STOP!" Camilla cried out as Fabian called for Nina.

"Do not listen to them!" Senkhara thundered turning to glare at the twins who had caused her to much trouble in the year.

"oh shove off spirit bitch!" Camilla turned to her holding out her palm which they could all salt particles, "or do you want another dosing of fire?"

This caused the spirits to widen and she moved away from the pair slightly, enough so Fabian could rush to Nina and Camilla could rush in front of Joy and Amber both of whom were more than happy to have the girl as a shield from the spirit.

Fabian grabbed Nina's arm gently causing the American girl to look away from the spirit for the first time, knowing Camilla could keep her at bay for a while, but not for long now the mask was in touching distance for her.

"Senkhara needs a human body to transport her to the afterlife," Fabian explained to the girl trying to keep his voice calm and level, "she can't put on the Mask herself because she is a spirit, so she's planning to use you!"

Camilla looked to Nina, "if you put that thing on, we lose you forever."

"What?!" Amber gasped horrified.

"so don't put on that mask," Fabian ordered.

"put it on..." The spirit whispered knowing there was one thing the bond of old couldn't do, it couldn't stop someone's choice. The Chosen One was foolish enough to choose to wear the mask for the lives of her friends.

As if on cue Nina turned to the spirit, hesitating before steeling herself, "will you lift the curse off my gran and my friends?" she asked.

Senkhara nodded her head frantically before crying, "yes, now put on the mask!"

Nina looked between Camilla, who was standing protectively in front of Joy and Amber, and Fabian who was next to her, giving them both apologetic glances before she raised the mask to her face.

"NO!"

"NINA!"

A moment passed.

And then another.

Senkhara's face darkened as a bubble of a laugh left Camilla's lips knowing The Protector had figured out the same thing she had. Something had gone wrong and whatever was meant to happen wasn't happening.

"Why is nothing happening?" the spirit screamed as Nina took the mask away from her face. "you are not the paragon." She hissed at Nina in betrayal, "I shall have to seek my champion elsewhere,"

"don't you dare-" Camilla started but was stopped as Senkhara held her hand out causing Nina to cry in pain clutching at her arm.

"for you all, it is over!" The spirit cried.

Amber and Fabian too cried out as they felt their marks start to burn. Camilla gritted her teeth together as she fought screaming out she refused to let the spirit have the satisfaction of hearing her scream.

"What is it?" Joy asked anxiously, "what's wrong?"

Camilla lifted her palm to her lips and blew the salt at Senkhara thinking, "Phasmatus lgnitium dos ex salvo!" the moment the crystals hit the spirit she too let out a shriek of agony as dark ghostly flames engulfed her and she faded from sight.

The four who were gasping in pain breathed sighs of relief for a second until Nina looked around in a panic.

"No," she whispered, "Senkhara! Senkhara wait. Please!" the American cried out to the now empty chamber.

"Thank you, Camilla, no problem Nina all in a day's work protecting you," Camilla sarcastically muttered as she turned to check Amber was okay, the blonde nodding her head slightly seeing the worry in Camilla's eyes.

Just then a flash of light lit up the room and they all turned to see Nina's locket glowing slightly. Camilla's ring doing the same. Fabian shaking his head in sheer amazement. Of course, Frobisher would have the last laugh.

Instinctively, Nina held her locket up to the mask. The eyeholes filled with a golden light, beaming two eye-shaped protections onto the wall of the chamber. Slowly writing started to appear in the protections.

The Sibuna's eyes darted as they quickly read the words.

Nina being the first to finish so Camilla couldn't stop her as she cried out to the empty room, "Senkhara! This isn't the true mask! Here's the final clue! The mask was meant for me – I am the one you need."

"Nina..." Camilla hissed in a warning tone, her hand digging in her back pocket for a small scrap of Papyrus paper. Her own backup plan. Rutters always had a backup plan and with Nina involved she knew she would have to use it.

The damage was done already and Senkhara reappeared, glowering dangerously at Camilla daring her to try to harm her one more time, she then glanced to Nina her eyes burning with curiosity. "Read," she commanded.

Nina looked to the wall and read the couplet that was written in a trembling voice, "The True Mask still waits, hidden for all to see. The Portal of the mind awakes, the paragon is the key."

Senkhara disappeared after the reading and Nina ran back to the glass case to put the fake mask back.

"What does that even mean?" Amber quietly asked.

Joy shook her head, uncomprehending, "How can something be hidden for all to see?"

Frantically the four Sibuna's and their temp racked their brains for what the meaning could be.

As she settled the fake mask onto its stand Nina let out a gasp, inspiration flooding her. "like in a museum..."

"Your talking about the bronze replica?" Camilla turned to her friend questioningly.

"The Frobisher-Smythe's donated the Mask of Anubis to the British Museum, didn't they?" Nina asked looking between the twins frantically for answers.

"hidden in plain sight," Fabian repeated again, "what they donated wasn't a replica – it was the real thing."

"let's go," Nina said before rushing off back down the tunnels.

"No Nina!" the twins shouted after her running figure, Fabian racing off after her.

"Think about what you are doing?!" they all heard him shout desperately.

Joy and Amber looked to Camilla as she tilted her head from side to side, her face set as she looked ahead. In her hand, the papyrus paper was falling from her hand in ashes, not that anyone noticed but Camilla.

"Are you not running after them?" Joy questioned pointing to the figures.

Camilla looked at her, "I don't run from anyone, and I am not running for a bitchy spirit." With that, the girl flicked her hair over her shoulder before strolling after her friends purposefully.

Joy and Amber sharing an amused look before they followed after the female twin, both of them wanting to stick by the magic-user just in case.

Camilla rolled her eyes as she saw Fabian and Nina crouched by the entrance to the secret door to the library. Voices could be heard on the other side of the wall and it just proved her point Nina had broken a sweat for nothing. The bloody spirit had waited years for the Mask the bitch could handle waiting a little bit longer.

Camilla opened her mouth to talk to them too but was stopped as Fabian put a trembling finger over his lips causing Camilla to finally cotton onto the voices on the other side of the door.

"Rufus?" Nina hissed.

"He's clearly come for the mask..." Fabian explained as Camilla pushed him to one side to see if Jerome was with him. she could see the boy through the vents he looked shaken but unharmed.

"Well, then, we let him go down and get it while we take the real one," Nina argued.

"Eh, no." Camilla shook her head looking at Nina.

"that's the way down to the tunnels..." Vera spoke causing the Sibuna's to all look at one another eyes widening.

"Okay back down the tunnel everyone!" Camilla ordered.

"Anti-chamber." Nina nodded her head in agreement as she got to her feet dragging Amber and Joy down so they could go hide.

"No, we need to talk about this..." Fabian groaned but the girl had already runoff.

"Wait..." Rufus's tone caused both the twins to turn to look at him. Camilla could hide herself and Fabian no issue so they didn't feel worried about waiting back to hear what the man had to say. "stay outside, keep watch." He ordered Vera. "this one... the Marsat Alhami," the man pointed to Jerome, the twins looking to one another as they understood the man's Arabic instantly, clearly, he knew more about Camilla's position than the girl did... or Victor hadn't got round to tell her any of it yet, "he's coming with me as an insurance policy."

Vera didn't even argue with the man, turning to walk out the door to the library, which caused Camilla's blood to boil, she was happy to just let Jerome head into danger with Rufus no questions asked. What a horrible woman.

"Wait, before you go," Rufus's words stopped her in her tracks, "you need to show me the way through the tunnel."

Vera glanced at the man before pulling a piece of paper out of her jacket and unfolding it to write down the instructions for Rufus.

The Hearing for John Clarke had been stalled far too long waiting for Jerome and Camilla and they had to just push ahead. Mara hated to admit that all the research Camilla had clearly been doing since the first time she met the older Clarke man really had come in handy with the board who were deciding his fate lapping it up.

As she sat down Poppy got to her feet, her hands trembling on the bit of paper where the reworked article of Mara's was on. If Jerome wasn't here, she'd have to simply do it. She'd do it for her dad.

"This was a man," the girl's voice trembled as she slowly read out the article but it showed the depths of the emotions she felt for her dad. "that made some mistakes, but who wanted, desperately wanted, to turn his –" Poppy stuttered to a stop.

"Go on pops..." John whispered to her encouragingly causing the small girl to smile.

"and who wanted, more than anything," the girl read pausing as she read over the words Jerome had written in the speech her tears flowing down her face, "just to be our father again. And I realise I needed to have my dad back." With that she concluded looking to her dad to see he too had tears on his face, causing the girl to wipe at her own with a smile.

"That was a statement on behalf of both John Clarkes children," Mara pipped up as she stood to comfort Poppy. "Jerome and Poppy Clarke."

The board nodded their heads before looking to one another having a silent conversation as the two girls sat back down again.

"Thank you," Poppy whispered to Mara, "I can't believe Gerbil and Cam would miss this..."

"I can..." Mick muttered in a sing-song kind of way.

Mara frowned as she turned to look at Mick, "you're really not helping," she scolded him.

"Are there any more statements before we break off to discuss?" the head of the panel spoke up looking around the room.

"Just one more." The warm-toned voice was confident and clear despite how quiet it was, causing all heads to turn to the door behind John Clarke where a woman walked into the room. Fashionably late, in a deep navy suit trousers, a chiffon cream shirt that had been tailor to fit perfectly around her torso but flowed out from her arms, giving the impression it was made just for her – which added to the effortless look she was pulling off and the matching navy blazer which hung over her Chanel handbag. The outfit topped with a pair of Louboutin heel.

"Annabeth Rutter," she held out a perfectly manicured hand where only a golden wedding ring and an extravagant engagement ring could be seen as accessories. "old school friend of John Clarke."

"The Twins mum?" Mick's whisper wasn't needed as Mara took in the woman. Even without the introduction, the twins could easily be seen in the woman. Her body shape and her confidence was all Camilla, in fact, the woman was almost a future look at what her daughter might become with caramel-coloured hair than the dark chocolate brown Camilla had, but her warm hazel eyes that darted around the room soaking up the information around her was all Fabian.

"Rutter?" one of the men across from John Clarke all but squeaked. "as in –"

"Rutter Archaeology and Discover?" Annabeth said simply a smile creeping onto her face, "why of course, now shall we get to business because it was a rather long drive up and I don't think Gerald my Driver will want to learn I came here for nothing."

With that, the woman slid a plastic blue chair out and sat down on it, her back straight as she looked calculatingly at the board. At that moment the three children knew John Clarke was going to walk free a Rutter was on the case and was going to make sure of it.

Patricia and Alfie kept glancing to one another as they lead Eddie back into Anubis house. When they had gone to bust Jerome from Rufus's barn, they had actually found Eddie there instead. He explained he followed them to figure out what the hell was going on but ended up being caught.

Eddie glanced up as a burnt bit of paper fluttered down in front of him. He caught it and opened it up to read; "Eddie... we need you... Osirian come."

Osirian? what? what did this note mean? who sent it? Questions flooded Eddie's mind.

"Chosen one... Isis' Protector..." The boy looked around as the echoing male voice surrounded him, the voice didn't scare him but the fact clearly Patricia and Alfie didn't hear it caused him to feel a little uneasy about it.

"Did either of you hear that?" he asked the pair with him, clutching the paper in his hands. "there was a whisper..."

Alfie glanced up at Victor's office before darting into the living room to look for their friends.

Patricia, however, stayed to deal with Eddie, "it's okay... I think you might still have a concussion." She told the boy as Alfie ran back to the pair and shook his head. Their friends weren't downstairs.

"Eh, Miss Williamson," Patricia looked around as Victor came racing down the stairs, "what exactly is going on here?"

"eh..." Patricia racked her mind for some excuse to explain what was going on, "Eddie had an accident, and the nurse told us to bring him back here."

Victor looked over the girl for a second before shaking his head, he had bigger things to worry about than Eddie Miller, "Very well, Very Well..." he dismissed, before pushing past them to get to the front door.

"no interrogation?" Patricia sounded bewildered-looking to Alfie who grabbed Eddie's arm to help guide the boy to his room.

"weird, maybe Victor's had a bang on the head too..." Alfie shrugged, "Anyway I'm just going to go and check on thee a..." he trailed off trying to find a subtle way to talk about the mask.

"NO!" Patricia cried, "you can't go that way, you don't have..." she tried to mime an amulet but failed miserably. "plus we don't have the person to open the thing."

"oh! Oh!" Alfie exclaimed after a second, "you mean the socket... that's fine I'll just go the back way, via the, em," Alfie glanced at Eddie, "via the sly-berry..."

"Guys..." Eddie looked between the pair, "I'm concussed, and I can still see through oh-so-secret code."

Alfie burst out laughing at the boy's words, "Code..."

"Okay, I am going to make sure Eddie is okay, and then I will catch up with you," Patricia told the pair, leading Eddie into his bedroom and letting Alfie dash off like a mad man out the door once again.

Fabian and Camilla had decided it was best to catch up with the Sibuna's doing so just as they were going up the secret passage to the fake oven door.

"Come on Amber," Nina mumbled as Camilla climbed out the oven seeing Amber fixing her hair in a pot's reflection.

Joy scrambled out from the oven looking horrified, especially as everyone else seemed far to calm.

They all jumped as Alfie came bursting into the room panting out of breath. "GUYS?!" He shouted as he saw them, from his panting he clearly had been hunting for them.

"Alfie..." Nina breathed in relief seeing him.

"We didn't get Jerome," Alfie told them all, "Rufus drove off with him."

"We know," Camilla spoke up looking to her friend.

"Rufus is already here..." Nina added.

"WHAT?!"

"He'll be in the mask chamber now," Fabian added.

"What?! Is Jerome with him?" Alfie asked, looking to Camilla who nodded her head. "You need to be here, so I'll go help him," Alfie told her holding out his hand for one of them to give him their amulet.

"Alfie don't..." Amber groaned as Joy pulled her amulet off and gave it to him.

"Be careful Alfie," Fabian warned him knowing if it wasn't for the fact Nina was about to race off to do something utterly stupid Camilla would be joining the boy in getting Jerome back. "don't try anything... utterly stupid."

Alfie only gave the male twin a grin before he dived into the fake oven.

"it's Alfie Fabian... of course he'll try something stupid," Amber groaned as she got to her knees once again to follow the boy into the tunnel.

"Amber..." Nina called out, "just... make sure Alfie knows about the mask being a fake."

Amber nodded her head before following after her potential boo.

Nina turned to look to Camilla who was watching her two best friends go with worry all over her features. Nina knew the only thing keeping Camilla from following them was her and she was grateful of the hard choice the girl had made, unsure if she would have been able to make the same choice if the roles had been reversed. "Are you ready for this?" the American asked the female twin quietly.

Camilla turned her head to look at her a small smile flitting onto her face, "No, but I wasn't ready for the rest of it either, so this shouldn't be too much harder"

This comment caused Joy to let out a nervous laugh as Nina turned to look at the rest of them with her. "let's go get the real mask."

With that, the four Sibuna's above-ground rushed from the kitchen and the house.

Rufus was using Jerome as a shield as the pair walked their way through the labyrinth of tunnels under Amun academy until they finally reached the Mask Chamber. Rufus rushed across the board with Jerome before slamming the boy into the wall with the shout of, "stay there!"

Jerome looked on petrified as Rufus went to grab the mask turning in time to see Amber and Alfie quietly sneak their way down to the chamber. Alfie putting his finger to his lips to tell Jerome to remain silent.

"The Mask of Anubis..." Rufus whispered in awe. "finally."

"Amber Millington!" Victor's voice came calling causing the girl to look around at him petrified as he walked down the stairs behind her. Alfie diving for a hiding space. "what do you think you're doing?!"

Rufus looked around at the man's voice.

"Victor, wow am I sleepwalking again?!" Amber called as Jerome tried to move from the man's grip hearing Victor but was stopped by Rufus.

Victor looked past the girl and instantly knew what was going on, the girl was trying to save her best friends partner? (he wasn't too sure what was going on with Jerome and Camilla at the moment). "Rufus Zeno..." he hissed in anger as he approached the man, Amber on his left. "the fake obituary was a nice touch. And the anonymous tip-off regarding the exhibition."

"I'm glad you appreciate my efforts," Rufus informed the man. Jerome using the time he was distracted to see Alfie slipped out of his hiding space and creep down the tunnel towards them.

2 Sibuna's, 1 Sibuna temp and A Guardian Vs Rufus... they could do this. he hoped.

"and Vera's too..." Rufus watched the man for any sign of discomfort from the man but Victor's face remained stony. Jerome mouthing help to his friends. "I thought you'd hit it off, now if you excuse me, I have a rather an exclusive ceremony to perform and with the help of Marsat Alhami here," he nodded back to Jerome causing Victor's eyes to widen, "your little Protector will be more than willing to help me syphon all the magic I need to do it."

"it won't work," Victor told him.

"did you miss the part where I use your protector to syphon her magic?" Rufus laughed slightly.

Victor rolled his eyes at the man as he started to pace back and forth, "The mask is missing its third eye." He informed Rufus who glanced at the mask to look at it. What Victor said was true. The eye on the centre of the forehead was missing. He let go of Jerome to examine the Mask closer.

Jerome nodded his head to the Mask then he looked to Alfie who nodded his head from behind Victor mouthing 'throw it' Amber glancing between the two nervously.

"of course, Robert removed it!" Rufus hissed in anger, most of them assuming it was because he had managed to be outsmarted by a dead man but they all had been during this year at one point or another. "he removed the Gem... The Frobisher Gem." Rufus realised causing Jerome's eyes to widen in alarm. "but I have that..." Rufus laughed slightly at Victor.

That was the last straw for Jerome, he rushed forward and grabbed the mask before throwing it over Victor's head to Alfie. "GO!"

"NO!" Rufus screamed.

"yes, Alfie!" Amber cheered as Alfie raced off down the tunnels with the mask. Victor looking at them all before racing after the pair.

Alfie had one advantage as he raced through the tunnels, he knew where he was going. However, as he reached Robert's secret study and tried to close the door Rufus came up behind him causing Alfie to catch the man's arm in the secret door. Rufus crying out in pain.

Alfie didn't bother to try to do anything else as he raced for the entrance and to the secret oven tunnel. He needed to get Rufus as far away as he could.

"So basically..." Patricia had been trying to explain the situation to Eddie but failing miserably as the boy kept looking to the folded paper in his hands. "Rufus is a nutjob, who wants anything connected to the Frobisher-Smythe's, and he doesn't have a problem with kidnap and stealing."

Eddie scoffed slightly hearing the end of her rant. "tell me about it."

"But... why Jerome?" Patricia asked, "Rufus must have thought he had something he needed..."

"maybe he did..." Eddie's eyes widened looking to Patricia as he started to search in his jacket pocket before pulling out the purple/pink gem that Jerome had spent all year hunting for. As Patricia glanced at it the gem glowed a deep pink burning Eddie causing him to throw it to the ground in pain.

"whoa..." Patricia knelt down to pick it up.

"its never done that before." Eddie hissed in pain, "careful it's hot..."

Patricia gave him an odd look as she picked it up with ease. "no it's not. It's cold."

"What?" Eddie got to his feet and looked at the gem Patricia was holding.

"isn't this the gem that Jerome's been obsessing over?" Patricia asked looking to him, "where did you get this?"

"from Jerome. He gave it to me in the barn, don't ask me why." Eddie shrugged.

Eddie took the gem and put it in his palm again, the gem glowing faintly and the male voice filling his ears. "Osirian, you're being called for... Isis Protector needs help with the Chosen One..."

Eddie glanced around, "do you hear that?"

"No, hear what?"

"Chosen One..."

"Chosen One."

Patricia's eyes widened at Eddie's words.

"Isis's Protector..."

"The Protector of Isis..." Eddie spoke again softly,

"she awakening you to do your duty. You both need to Protect Nina..."

"Where are they?" Eddie turned to Patricia. "She's calling me to take up my duty!"

"Eddie... Eddie, Eddie!" Patricia looked at him in confusion. "are you okay?!"

"She's awakening me! I need to find them!" he insisted, "NOW!" With that he raced from the room, Patricia on his heels having no clue what he was on about. Both of them missing the note glowing slightly as it fell from Eddie's grip.

Joy, Fabian, Camilla and Nina were frantically searching through the crate Nina remembered the mask of Anubis was in.

As Nina lifted the mask with trembling fingers Camilla took a step back to look around the room. Gathering herself she opened her arms, before gathering them in front of her and pulling her hands towards her chest. Joy thinking, she looked like she was doing some sort of reverse breaststroke action. "Terminus Imperium!" Camilla shouted with her movements all of them feeling a gust of something magical spread from her, causing her hair to fan out behind her, the girl's eyes shut, as small sparks danced towards the entrances in the library.

If this was to be their final battlefield like he felt it would be she was going to have control over who exited the building.

"What did you do?" Fabian whispered to his sister.

"Boundary spell..." Camilla smiled looking to them all wiping her nose of the blood that had formed there, "you can enter but I can choose if you leave, let's see how Spirit bitch deals with that."

Joy let out a laugh of confusion before she turned to Nina whose eyes hadn't left the mask.

Between Camilla getting the library 'battle' ready and Nina holding the mask, there was some huge sense of inevitability that hung over them all.

"Nina, you don't have to do this," Fabian whispered to her softly.

Nina's breath hitched as she looked away from the mask towards her first love. Drinking in his face, trying to memories his features. "I do," she whispered sadly.

"THE THIRD EYE!" Amber cried as she crawled out of the secret entrance. "you need the third eye."

Camilla turned around just in time to see Jerome crawl out after her. The pair looked at one another for a second before she raced over to him, the boy meeting her halfway as they clung to one another. Nothing needed to be said at that moment, they just clung to one another. Whatever they needed to talk about they could do it after tonight. After everything was sorted.

"Sorry to break up the cute Jamilla moment but..." Amber turned to her friends, "You need the third eye."

"My Dad's gem! The Frobisher Gem!" Jerome explained as he and Camilla broke apart slightly turning to look to the other's, his arm around her shoulder and her's around his waist.

Nina looked from Amber to Jerome to the small indentation on the mask's forehead.

"tell me you have the gem Jerome," she pleaded.

Jerome shook his head at her, "No, I found it, but I don't have it with me right now. I gave it to –"

But before he could finish the sentence, the door of the library burst open, and Eddie ran into their ranks with Patricia on his heel. He had a glowing amethyst gem in his hands.

"Eddie?" Nina questioned her eyes widening.

Patricia spoke up, gasping for breath, "he just started freaking out on me. Mumbling about Isis's Protector and the Chosen One... and the...

"Osirian," Camilla spoke up around the room with a knowing look on her face. "Yes!" the girl, for some reason no one understood, did a small celebration, "my message worked! I actually awoke you!"

"Protector?" Eddie whispered look at Camilla in awe.

"It's nice to meet you Osirian," she told him with a nod of her head.

As Camilla and Eddie share a smile, Nina crossed over to the boy to see the gem in his hand. "You're my Osirian, my protector..."
