Cabin

Her voice echoed out of the small kitchen as she set the kettle to boil. "I didn't take much of anything with me. I broke into his safe and stole about $50. I only had a small backpack, a change of clothes and a few personal things. I didn't want to risk bringing any bank cards. I was trying not to leave a paper trail."

Sesshoumaru stood and walked to the kitchen, leaning against the door frame as he listened. "He would have followed you by scent alone." Again, it was more statement than question.

She shook her head. "I may not have been able to use my powers against him but one of my best friends is a monk and my family trains new priests and priestesses. They gave me a bracelet with a charm inscribed on it. It blocked my scent." Looking down at the bright green kettle, she shook her head again. "I used that same friends cabin outside the city. By then, only two close friends knew what was going on and they helped me start the proceedings for a divorce."

Kagome sighed and moved her hands about restlessly as she moved away from the stove, waiting for the tea to boil. "It was only three days. It was the first time in so long that I'd been completely alone that I didn't know what to do with myself; I jumped at the smallest sounds, double and triple checked locks, even the window ones. I was so scared that he would find me, that everything would come crumbling down around me."
