I left her back at the house, and ran into the forest to feed. Sprinting at top speed, I breezed past the trees. It felt good to run.
The wind shifted, bringing with it the scent of blood. Not dear blood, or human blood, but similar.
I skidded to a halt behind a nearby tree. There it was, the source of the scent.
In the nearby clearing, there was a white wolf, not as large as Jacob and his brothers, but this wasn't no runt, either. It snarled, its back turned to me. It was glaring at the other side of the clearing.
I turned away. I didn't feel comfortable killing a wolf, so I started to leave.
Before I took a step, I heard heavy footsteps behind me. Turning back to the clearing, I saw the thing that was aggravating the wolf.
A large cougar stepped into the clearing, challenging the wolf for the territory.
I crouched down. I had never seen a territory battle in the wild before. This was going to be interesting.
