Chapter 50

Mildian Arc – Start

Siegrain

I sat at the bar in the Fairy Tail guild with a calm demeanor. I don't typically drink at gatherings. If I do, it is usually in moderation, but last night Lucy somehow convinced me to go overboard. A few things ended up happening last night that could prove problematic going forward. For starters, I woke up in Lucy's apartment. That led to a very awkward morning and we haven't spoken about it yet.

The doors swung open and the snickering of Natsu and Lisanna could be heard as they entered the guild. I turned around to see the devious grins on their faces. Behind them was Elfman who was giving off a big goofy smile. He looked like he was on the verge of bursting out into laughter. I wondered what could have happened as Mira and Erza walked through the doors with beat red faces. They were both looking away from the other in embarrassment. Now that I thought about it, they were getting rather closer last night.

"Yo, Siegrain, what are you still doing here?" Natsu asked.

I gave Natsu a curious look. I had already told him that I was to be his sister's parole officer.

"I'm going to be here for the next few months. I've been tasked with keeping an eye on your sister. I already told you this. Did you forget."

"He definitely did." Lisanna teased.

"Oh yeah…" Natsu said, "Anyways, let's find a job!"

Natsu marched right over to the job board where Lucy and an Indian-looking guy were. Natsu and Lisanna exchanged pleasantries with both and got to looking for jobs.

"Hey Lucy," Lisanna called to the blonde, "You wanna team up?"

Lucy beamed at the white-haired girl, "I'd love to, but I'm already working with Gray."

Natsu gave Lucy an odd look, as though the idea of working with Gray was a strange one. Lisanna wasn't fazed by the information though.

"Then how about we all team up then?"

"Team up with the popsicle?" Natsu complained.

Lisanna jabbed Natsu lightly, "Play nice."

Natsu groaned, "Where even is he?"

Lucy sighed and told them, "He lost his clothes…"

"Ooh," Natsu and Lisanna replied in understanding.

The trio went back to looking for jobs, when Makarov walked out of the back office. He was holding a single paper in his hand and he had a beaming smile. I had a feeling I knew what this was about. Another embarrassment from last night.

"Siegrain, I'm glad to have caught you!" he said.

"Makarov." I replied respectfully.

"Hehe, that's Master Makarov to you." Makarov said playfully as he slammed down the new wizard application on the bar top. It was totally filled out, in my handwriting.

I sighed. Last night I apparently registered with Fairy Tail. Lucy found the guild mark on my back this morning, so it wasn't as much of a surprise to me.

"I really am honored that a mage of your caliber wants to join my guild." Makarov continued, trying not to burst out into laughter.

"I'm sorry Makarov, but I believe that was a mistake. I had no intentions of joining the guild. I was drinking last night and…"

Makarov cut me off, "I know boy. I'm just teasing you. We can get that guild mark off real quick."

I smiled at Makarov, "Thank you…but I think I may stay in the guild for a bit longer."

Makarov's eyes bulged. Anyone who was in the vicinity, including Lucy, Natsu, and Lisanna, was suddenly gathered around me. Thanks to my time in the Magic Council, I was used to being the center of attention, so it didn't bother me.

"I'm going to be stuck here for a while, and frankly, I do need a job. I've been in politics for so long. It would be nice to stretch my other skills a bit."

Makarov laughed and threw me into a hug, "You won't regret this, Siegrain!"

I squirmed under Makarov's grip until he finally let me go. He looked like he was on the verge of tears. Not to brag, but as a Wizard Saint, I would be a huge asset to the Fairy Tail guild.

"I need to get this finalized!" He exclaimed as he ran back into his office.

"Hehe, welcome to the guild!" Natsu said as he slapped me on the back.

"You're really joining!?" Lucy asked excitedly.

"Yes," I told her, "I look forward to working alongside you."

I gave a little chuckle as Lucy's face turned a light shade of red.

My attention was swiftly shifted to behind the counter as the sound of glass shattering rang throughout the guild.

"Kya!" came an oddly girly voice.

"Erza!" Came the unmistakable voice of Mirajane.

I looked to the source of the commotion and found both Mirajane and Erza were working behind the counter. Mirajane looked perfectly at home behind there, but Erza looked kind of uncomfortable. She looked like she has never worked the bar before.

"I've never done this before! Maybe if you would give me some direction this wouldn't happen!" Erza retorted.

"How hard is it to hold a tray of beer!?" Mira snapped back.

"Hey, knocking it off, both of you." Natsu said.

"Mira, go easy on her!" Lisanna added, "She's never done this before."

Erza shifted uncomfortably but quieted down. Mira muttered, "fine", but looked away from Erza.

"You two were getting along so well last night!" Lisanna said, "Even shared a bed!"

Both girls turned beat red and vaulted over the counter, intent on strangling Lisanna to death. Natsu and I quickly jumped in to subdue the two girls. Natsu managed to hold back Erza while I held Mira back.

"How about we avoid beating our siblings half to death." I suggested.

"Come on, she's just teasing." Natsu told Erza.

There was a brief pause before Erza replied, "…Yeah…"

I turned Erza and Natsu. Erza was looking down in shame. It occurred to me that my statement may have hit a cord with her. Natsu didn't look very happy either.

"Just…try and…get along." Natsu said. He didn't sound confident at all. It seemed to me that the concept of him taking charge, at least with regards to Erza, was completely foreign to him.

The tension was cut by a lacrima I keep on my person going off. I pulled the lacrima out of its pocket and sighed. It was a call from the Mildian Magic Academy. It was the school where I learned magic, along with Lucy. I was only fortunate enough to attend such a prestigious school thanks to Mr. Heartfilia's generosity. It was common around this time of the year for them to contact alumnus to come in and work with the next generation as part of their Spirit Week. Normally I would be happy to volunteer, but with all the craziness in the last few days, I wouldn't be able to.

"Mildian's calling you?" Lucy asked.

"It's probably about Spirit Week." I answered.

"What's that?" Natsu asked.

"It's a school wide celebration." Lucy answered, "Are you going to answer it?"

Everyone looked at me in anticipation, so I answered the lacrima. An older looking woman appeared on the small screen on the lacrima.

"Hello, this is Meredith with Mildian Magic Academy." She immediately began.

"Hello Meredith, how are you?"

The older woman smiled warmly at me, "Oh, I'm doing just fine Siegrain, thank you for asking. I trust you are doing well yourself. That was quite the ordeal you had to go through."

"Yes, I am doing just fine." I answered, "So to what do I owe the pleasure?"

"Right," Meredith's demeanor became much more serious, "Our Spirit Week is coming up and we were wondering if you would be able to come in and instruct the kids for a day or two."

"I'm sorry Meredith." I began, sounding sincerely sorry, "With everything that has been going on, I've been just too busy."

"Oh, that's alright dearie. We understand. Well, it was nice speaking with you."

"It was nice speaking with you too."

"Have a nice day."

"You too."

Meredith hung up the lacrima and I turned to the other mages around me.

"You're busy?" Natsu asked.

"I literally just moved to Magnolia yesterday." I informed him, "Yes, I am very busy."

Suddenly, Lucy's lacrima started to go off. She pulled it out and didn't recognize the number, but I did, and I couldn't help but chuckle.

"Looks like you were next on their list." I told her.

Lucy looked at me in surprise, "Wait that's Mildian?"

I nodded my head.

Lucy answered the lacrima and lo-and-behold, there was Meredith.

"Hello Ms. Heartfilia, this is Meredith from the Mildian Magic Academy."

"Um…hello."

"Our Spirit Week is coming up and we were wondering if you would be able to come in and instruct the kids for a day or two." She said, repeating the exact same line to Lucy.

"R-really? Me?" Lucy was awestruck, "Don't you usually invite the famous people?"

"Oh, dearie please, everyone's heard of you! After that whole debacle with the Tower of Heaven, everyone knows you."

Lucy suddenly got a devious smile, "What, did Siegrain turn you down?"

I stifled a chuckle.

"Oh, Siegrain said he had other things to do." Meredith replied, "By the way, have you seen him since the incident? Is he doing alright?"

Lucy turned the lacrima so that it was facing me.

"Oh my! Are you two dating!?"

Lucy and I both turned beat red and yelled, "No!"

Lucy turned the lacrima back to her, "He just joined the guild I'm a part of."

"Oh, I see...Well, would you like to volunteer? We could use some magic instructors. You could even bring some friends from the guild if you wanted."

Lucy raised an eyebrow and looked to Natsu and Lisanna.

"Sounds like fun." Lisanna said.

"I'm game." Natsu replied.

"I wouldn't mind doing something like that." Came Gray from behind them.

"Gah, where'd you come from, ice princess?"

"From behind you, flame brain."

"Both of you, fight nice." Mira warned the two.

Lucy turned back to the lacrima and told Meredith that they would be happy to help.

"Great, how many days are you available? We could use instructors for all five days." Meredith alerted them.

Lucy looked to the others who informed her that they could do five days, "We could do all five days."

"Great! Thank you very much, Ms. Heartfilia. Just let us know how many mages you will be bringing."

"Will do."

"Have a nice day!"

With that, Meredith once more hung up the lacrima. We waited a moment to see if anyone else would receive a call, but there was nothing.

"So probably just us four, right?" Lucy asked.

"Can I come too!?" came a young female voice from above.

Everyone looked up to the second-floor loft and watched as none other than Wendy Marvel jumped off the ledge! Carla cried out for the girl and quickly latched onto her back and safely flew her down to the first floor. I had no idea she was up there, and I could only imagine that Mystogan was up there as well. The sign on the stairs leading up read "S-Class Only", so I was mildly surprised that those two were up there. Though, being partners of Mystogan, I assumed they were allowed up there so long as he was with them.

"I've never been to a school before, can I come?" Wendy asked excitedly.

"Sure!" Lucy replied.

"So long as Mystogan is alright with it." Lisanna said, looking up.

We all looked up to see the cloaked S-Class mage looking down at us. He gave Wendy a thumbs up.

"Woo!" Wendy celebrated, "This is so exciting!"
