Chapter 92
.
The plan was simple enough. Katniss would create a distraction, then Buffy, Willow, both Anakins, Oliver Queen, and Laurel 2, would sneak in to rescue Dawn and the other tributes. Tris would stay back and provide cover fire for Katniss' escape. Willow and the two Anakins would then open the portal back to Earth. Tris and Katniss refused to leave until they could be certain where their siblings might be.
.
The escape plan went through, practically without a hitch. It seemed that Cornelius Snow, who built his own mini-kingdom in Hell, was indeed still obsessed with Katniss. His obsession made him send many guards after her, leaving the tributes practically undefended. They reached the tributes, who were overjoyed to see their rescuers. Buffy found the previously unidentified female tribute, but it was not Dawn. It was a young girl with red hair. Buffy actually thought she knew who this girl was, someone Katniss had been up agaist in her own Hunger Games. Katniss couldn't remember her real name, but called her Foxface. Foxface was probably the most intelligent tribute in the 74th Hunger Games, Katniss even considered making her into an ally, but feared it would end with a knife in her back. Towards the end, when Foxface knew she was starving, couldn't be saved even if she won, Foxface committed suicide by eating poisonous berries. Buffy wondered, was it a coincidence that Foxface was the unknown tribute?
.
Buffy: Why did you want to be unknown?
Foxface: So many people are still looking for their children, for their siblings. I figured someone would come and rescue me if they thought I might be their lost loved one. Nothing personal.
.
Buffy understood Foxface's survival logic, but was still angry. She punched Foxface out, then told Willow to open the portal. They would take Foxface and the refugee children home. Buffy didn't believe that Foxface deserved to suffer forever, but she did hope that her bruise hurt for awhile.
