Chapter 51: Wings of an Angel
It was a relief that I had actually made it to my training spot without being caught. I'm sure it would be short lived, however the evening was perfect and I had every intention to enjoy it before having to answer to those childish drawings. I'm so mature... Giggling to myself I found a nice perch upon a fallen tree and enjoyed the light breeze. The sky was painted with blue, purple, red, orange and yellow. It was spectacular, the world around seemed to be more beautiful than ever. It's truly my favorite time of day. I must have been out here for a while because the stars were starting to shine through the twilight sky.
"Where you planning on coming back?" Shisui was smiling at me as he took the spot to my left.
"Not yet." My eyes never left the sky and Shisui joined my gaze.
Without a word, Itachi came up behind and gently wrapped his arms around me. I peeked up at him with a sheepish grin. "Am I in trouble?"
He lifted a teasing brow. "Not yet."
A soft laugh escaped me before turning my gaze back to the setting sun. It's rays were receding further and the colors of the sky were changing. The boys glanced to one-another and Shisui gave a slight nod. I caught it in my peripherals and tilted my head. I looked to each of them as Shisui stood and they both moved before me. I blinked at them curiously as they were now complementing the setting sun with their soft smiles.
"There's something we would like to ask you..." Shisui had an unmistakable blush.
My heart picked up in pace as my curiosity peaked. They both appeared nervous which was triggering my own. I felt my eyebrows crease slightly. "What is it?"
They glanced at one-another before they shared a slight nod and faced me again. My heart felt like it stopped when they knelt down. "Could we have your hand?" They said in unison, peering up at me with those smiles and red tones upon their faces.
I froze. My eyes grew wide and my face felt like it had been set on fire. The breath I had caught in my throat. Wha-what!? Out of the blue...? I've barely just accepted them both as significant others...
Shisui blinked a few times, realizing that I wasn't breathing. "Angel..?"
A gasp left me and I hadn't realized that there were tears in my eyes as my hands covered my mouth. "R-really...?"
"Really, Angel. Will you be mine forever?" Itachi said with a smile. My heart was throbbing so hard it hurt.
Shisui was grinning. "And mine always?"
One hand was now placed over my heart as if it would help prevent it from beating from my chest. The aura was glowing feverishly and started to cast light on the boys. I had to take another deep breath to try to ease myself as I stood. A small smile spread over my lips and as I was about to respond...the light chakra exploded, causing a blinding flash.
...
They tried to patiently wait for her response. Judging by how she was reacting, it could go either way. The suspense was painful, however the light aura around her began to glow so strongly, her answer seemed more perceivable. She stood and took a breath before her eyes fell upon them and that beautiful smile spread across her lips. This is it.
Shikara exploded in a huge ray of light. The energy sent them back and they had to cover their eyes from the flash and attempt to keep balance from the immense energy that was released at the same time. When the light dissipated, the pair quickly looked, fearful of Shikara's well-being.
"I-Itachi...?" Shisui stuttered, his eyes wide.
"...Yeah...?"
"Are those...wings...?"
Itachi looked on, seeing Shikara just as baffled as they were, freaked out, even. Her blush worsened as she hovered just above the ground. After a few moments the aura dissipated and her feet touched the grassy floor. She fell to her knees, hiding her face in her hands, the wings moved protectively before her, now shielding them from seeing her. Itachi looked to Shisui who gave him the same surprised expression. They then ran to her.
...
"Angel?" Came Itachi's voice.
Shisui sounded just as unsure, "Are you alright?"
After a moment the wings made of the light energy faded and disappeared, leaving me exposed to their sights. My hands were gently brought down and I slowly looked up to see Itachi's calm expression. After a few seconds he pulled me to him.
"I-Itachi-sama..." my voice was a whisper.
"You really are an angel..." he murmured. His voice was soothing and gave me the courage to look into his eyes. He was cradling me protectively and I felt safe in his arms.
"You really think so...?"
"More now than ever."
I closed my eyes and lightly smiled. The blush returned as Shisui knelt down beside Itachi.
"...We must get that scroll..."
My eyes opened again and I shifted in Itachi's lap to look at Shisui. I gave him a nod. "I think it's the only way that I can learn to control this chakra."
Shisui's lips turned into a soft smile. "Why did it react this way? It was incredible..."
Itachi was eyeing him, his arms gently tightened around me. "This power can't be exposed to anyone aside from us. Even in the Leaf...they would want to study her."
Shisui blinked in confusion. "You think they would? They'd be wise to keep her as an ally."
"Even with Danzo gone, she is still considered a criminal. If the scroll is the goal we will retrieve it ourselves."
I blinked in surprise. "You know...I'm right here..." my eyes narrowed as they both gazed at me. "I can contain myself...it's just..."
"Just what, angel?" Shisui questioned.
I looked to the ground, embarrassed. "It..."
Itachi smirked softly. "It made you happy. Really happy."
I blushed again and nodded. "I'm sorry...for ruining this moment for you...both of you..."
The boys exchanged glances and looked to me again. "You didn't ruin anything... maybe took me by surprise, however...you...are really amazing." Shisui chuckled.
I smiled at him. Usually it was the other way around, I was always amazed by him and his skill as a ninja. Both of them. Now I knew how it felt for others to be amazed by me and it felt really good.
"So...if you were happy enough to sprout wings...does this mean your answer is yes?" Shisui's eyebrow raised.
My blush returned and I looked from Shisui and then up to Itachi as they awaited my answer. Neither one swayed from before my outburst and I couldn't hold off any longer. I closed my eyes with a soft smile and gave a nod. It was all I could do without blowing them away...again.
The boys were now grinning at one-another as I freed myself from Itachi's embrace and stood. I smiled sweetly at the two handsome boys before tilting my head. "Before any of that though, I need to get that scroll." Their grins dissipated. "There's no way that I can continue forth without knowing how to control the light chakra, or how it could effect our futures."
Shisui lightly sighed before giving a slight nod. "I will contact the Hokage and depending on her response we will go from there."
Itachi stood. "It's time for me to return to the Akatsuki."
My eyes widened as he approached me with a soft smile. "When you have received a response, we will discuss our plan of action further." He tilted my chin up and I peered at him sadly. "Don't be too hard on Shisui."
I grinned. "Wouldn't dream of it."
He softly kissed my lips and after a moment turned away. "Let me know how it goes, Shisui." The boys took each other's forearms and said their farewells.
I couldn't deny being disappointed by him having to leave so soon. As I watched him go Shisui came to me and gently put an arm around my shoulders. "Ready for the next chapter, wifey?"
I smirked up at him. "Let's do this."
