Chapter 64 "A Few Hidden Secrets in a Jail Cell"
(Lucky and Elizabeth are at their apartment with Ashlynn. It's been almost two weeks and they have been using the nebulizer machine on Ashlynn just as Dr. Hartley had prescribed. At first, Ashlynn didn't like it. She kept trying to back away from the vapor air that was coming out of the machine. Lucky and Elizabeth tried to calm the baby down because she would fuss about it. After the first two days of trying to get Ashlynn to accept the vapor air through her mouth, she finally started accepting it. It was hard at first because they had to help her when she wouldn't put the tube in her mouth or up to her mouth a lot. But after a few days, she got used to it and didn't fight it anymore. Lucky and Elizabeth were relieved because they were afraid Ashlynn would keep rejecting it and that she wouldn't get better. They've been wondering how the baby's been doing with the machine because Ashlynn hasn't been coughing as much and she's been breathing better. In three days, they go back to General Hospital to see Dr. Lindsay Hartley and the pediatrician will determine if Ashlynn needs to stay on the nebulizer machine. They're nervous about it because, being their little girl is so young, that she may not be fully healed. Elizabeth is on the living room floor with the nebulizer machine and Ashlynn is sitting next to her, breathing in the vapor air through the tube from the machine when Lucky comes from the kitchen to tell them that supper is ready)
Lucky: "How's the patient doing?"
Liz: (sighs) "Well, so far so good."
Lucky: "Well, from what's been happening the last 2 weeks…well, almost two weeks…she's been doing well. I know at first she had to adjust to it."
Liz: "I feel so bad for her. I wish I could do this for her, but I know then she won't get better."
Lucky: "Well, at least mom showed us how to do it so now we know. I felt like an idiot because I didn't know how to do it."
Liz: "Don't worry, sweetie. I didn't either. I know being we're the parents, that we should know, but the doctors can't expect us to know everything being Ashlynn is our first child."
Lucky: (scoffs) "Yeah, thankfully Dr. Hartley was kind in helping us."
Liz: "Your mom, too, was helpful."
Lucky: (smiling) "Yeah, she was. Mom saved the day."
Liz: "Have you spoken to Nicholas lately about when the custody trial starts?"
Lucky: (nods) "Yeah, I talked to him the day before yesterday and their lawyer, Mrs. Benson, was still waiting to hear from the investigators."
Liz: (puzzled) "Wait. Didn't Mrs. Benson tell Nicholas and Michelle around the time that Dr. Hartley prescribed Ashlynn's treatments that she should hear from them soon?"
Lucky: (kinda confused) "I know. That's what I thought, too. She told them it would or should only take a few days, depending on what they found."
Liz: "But…" (confused) "…It's been almost two weeks and the investigators still haven't gotten a hold of Mrs. Benson? Being Michelle and Nicholas haven't heard from her yet, I'm sure they're wondering what's going on."
Lucky: (sighs) "I would be, too, if I were them."
Liz: "The only thing I can think of is…"
(Lucky looks at her, wondering what she's thinking)
Lucky: "What are you thinking, babe?"
Liz: "Well, is it possible that the investigators have a lead and wanna finish up on it before going to Benson about it?"
Lucky: (raises his eyebrows) "Huh. I didn't think of that."
(Lucky thinks to himself for a minute or so before looking back at Elizabeth)
Lucky: "You have a point."
Liz: (leans back a little) "Really?" (chuckles softly) "I thought it was just a dumb thought."
Lucky: "Okay, now you got me wondering."
Liz: "About what?"
(The vapor in the nebulizer machine runs out, meaning Ashlynn is done for the time being. Elizabeth packs the machine up and puts it back in the bag where it was and kisses the baby on the cheek, letting her play with her toys. Elizabeth goes to Lucky and they both sit at the table)
Liz: "So, back to what we were talking about."
Lucky: "What did you mean when you were thinking that the investigators may have a lead and maybe that's why they're taking so long in getting back to Benson?"
Liz: "Well…" (sighs) "…I don't know. I mean, it's the first thought that came to my mind. Isn't that what usually happens? If the investigators haven't been to the lawyer yet with what they've found, they're onto something?"
Lucky: (nodding) "I see what you're saying. I wonder what the lead could be about?"
Liz: (tilts her head) "Or about whom?"
Lucky: "Hmmm."
(A thought comes to Lucky's mind)
Lucky: "Wait, you don't think…."
Liz: (confused) "What, babe?"
Lucky: "If this lead is about someone…"
Liz: (raises her eyebrows) "Who could that someone be?"
(They both think to themselves, wondering who that someone could be. After a few minutes, a thought comes to both of them and they look at each other with a sort of serious face)
Lucky & Liz: "Gislo."
(At Michelle and Nicholas' house, they're just finishing supper when there's a knock at the door. They both look at each other weirdly, as if asking each other if they're expecting anyone. They shake their heads before Nicholas gets up from his chair to answer the door, revealing Max and Emily)
Nicholas: "Oh, hey guys."
Max: (smiles) "Hi!"
Emily: "Hey there."
Michelle: "What are you two up to?"
Emily: "Oh, we just got done eating at my house."
Nicholas: "Yeah, we just got done ourselves. You guys have anything good?"
Emily: (sighs) "Yeah, it was good. Reginald made his famous fettuccini chicken alfredo and mom invited Max over for supper."
Michelle: (smiles) "Aw, that was nice of her!"
Max: (laughs) "Yeah, it was fun until all the chaos happened."
Michelle: (confused) "Chaos?"
Nicholas: (puzzled) "What chaos?"
(Nicholas and Michelle look at Emily and Max weirdly, both wondering what's going on)
Emily: (scoffs a little) "Oh, it was going great until grandfather asked how come mom never cooks supper. How come Reginald always cooks."
Nicholas: "And what did your mom say?"
Emily: "She would, but whenever she does, everyone always complains that they don't like it."
Max: (chuckles) "And then Edward said maybe if she asked what everyone wanted, then no one would hate it."
Emily: (rolls her eyes) "And then, of course, mom said that she doesn't have all the time in the world to cook because of her job at the hospital. It's like the job consumes her."
Michelle: "What did Edward say to that?"
(Emily looks at Max, as if asking him to finish the story)
Max: "He tells her then maybe she shouldn't be working so much. Monica yells at him, telling him if he'd like to work all her crazy hours to make the money to pay the bills and get the groceries, to go for it."
(Nicholas and Michelle can't help but laugh during this. Max starts laughing too and then looks at Emily, who's mad. He stops laughing and looks at her, apologetically)
Max: "Sorry." (tries not to laugh) "Oh, come on, Em. You have to admit it is funny."
(Emily looks at Michelle and Nicholas and they look at her, too, as if they're telling her the same thing Max just told her. A smile spreads across her face and she shakes her head)
Emily: "I know it's funny. It's just that…I feel bad that you have to be in the middle."
Max: (chuckles) "Babe, no offense, but my dinners at home are boring compared to yours. Even though your family argues, you got to admit they don't take it too seriously."
Emily: (shakes her head) "No, they don't." (chuckles a little) "I swear, it feels like a night doesn't go by that they don't fight about something."
Nicholas: (laughs) "The way your grandfather is, Em, I don't doubt that. I remember years ago I'd go eat supper at your house and everyone would be bickering about something."
Emily: "Oh, trust me, Nicholas, you haven't missed anything since you last came for supper."
Nicholas: (chuckles) "I guess it's Max's turn to endure it."
(Emily looks at Max and winces, apologetically)
Emily: "If you don't want to come to any more suppers at my place, I totally understand."
(Max gently kisses her cheek and then smiles)
Max: "Like I said before, babe, I like going to your place for supper."
Emily: (gives him a look) "Even with my chaotic family?"
Max: (nods and smiles) "Even with your chaotic family."
Emily: (smiles a little) "Thanks."
Max: "You're stuck with me, Em. Better get used to it."
(Emily laughs softly)
Michelle: "It's true, girl. I've never seen my brother as happy as he's been with you."
Nicholas: (jokingly) "And if you do anything to mess that up, you'll deal with me."
Max: (shakes his head) "Don't worry. You'll never have to worry about that."
(They all smile. Meanwhile, at the prison where Gislo Yasmen and Joshua Sparrow are being held at, they're in their cell that they're sharing. Gislo is relaxing on his bottom bunk and Joshua is at his little table trying to solve a puzzle that's spread across the table. Joshua starts to get really frustrated, which Gislo notices)
Gislo: (chuckles) "You do realize you're getting upset over a puzzle, right?"
(Joshua looks up from his puzzle and looks at Gislo, giving him an evil look)
Gislo: (laughs harder) "Wow, after all our work together, you still amaze me."
Joshua: (scoffs) "And how do you figure that?"
Gislo: "I can tell, ever since you arrived here, that you've been itching to get out of here."
Joshua: "You would be too, I'm sure."
Gislo: "Oh, trust me, Joshua, I'm not planning on staying in here for very much longer."
Joshua: (leans his head back a little) "And how do you figure that?"
Gislo: "You will soon find out, trust me."
Joshua: (puts his hands up) "And where does that leave me?"
Gislo: "Don't worry. You'll get out of here soon enough."
(Joshua gets mad and screams, angrily sliding his puzzle off the table and it goes on the floor, breaking into dozens of pieces. Joshua looks at Gislo and faces him, giving him an evil look)
Joshua: "I'm sick of all your promises! You've been telling me that practically every day since I got in this place! "
(Gislo sits up from his bottom bunk and rests his feet on the floor, resting his hands on both of his sides)
Gislo: "What did I tell you before?"
Joshua: (scoffs) "That I'll get out of here, just have patience."
Gislo: "And have I ever broken my promises?"
Joshua: (deeply sighs) "No."
Gislo: "Well then."
Joshua: "You do realize that Michelle is getting closer to getting custody of her son."
Gislo: (shrugs) "Doesn't mean she'll get custody."
Joshua: (confused) "How do you figure that? She's the biological mother of the kid. She's planning on getting custody from the Brady's."
Gislo: (amazed) "You know a lot considering where you're at."
Joshua: (tilts his head) "What do you expect when there's nothing to do in this place? Plus, it's in the papers."
Gislo: (nods) "True. Michelle may think she's getting custody of her kid, but it doesn't mean she'll actually get him in the
end."
Joshua: "Hmmm. Sounds like you have a trick up your sleeve."
Gislo: (laughs) "Do I ever not have a plan about things?"
(Joshua looks at him for a minute before shaking his head)
Joshua: "No."
Gislo: "Besides, I have another trick up my sleeve regarding the Brady's."
Joshua: (puzzled) "The Brady's? You mean the adoptive parents of Michelle's kid?"
Gislo: "Yep."
(Joshua looks at Gislo, waiting for him to speak. When Gislo doesn't say anything, Joshua shrugs his shoulders and shakes his head)
Joshua: "Care to share what this plan is about?"
Gislo: "Let's just say…the Brady's were told that they couldn't have kids."
Joshua: "You mean the natural way?"
Gislo: (scoffs) "Wow, you DO have a brain, after all."
Joshua: (scoffs) "Shut up."
Gislo: "What's the matter, Sparrow? Can't take a joke?"
Joshua: "Who told the Brady's that they couldn't have kids?"
Gislo: "I didn't say that they couldn't have kids, I said they were told they couldn't have kids."
Joshua: (trying to understand) "O…kay. So, does that mean that they can actually have kids but they don't know they can?"
Gislo: (scoffs) "You know, Sparrow, for someone who used to be a doctor, you aren't very bright."
Joshua: (scoffs) "Well, if I'm not very bright, it's because of you. Ever since I've known you, you've always talked in riddles. What do you expect?"
Gislo: "From you, never anything major."
Joshua: "You know, you're really getting on my nerves."
Gislo: (laughs) "Oh, trust me, Sparrow, you've gotten on my nerves since the day I met you. But, I have to put up with you because you're still useful to me."
(Joshua walks around a little sliding his hands through his hair before facing Gislo, angrily shouting)
Joshua: "How the hell am I still useful to you, huh?! I'm stuck in this damn jail cell! What am I still supposed to do for you?! My life was just fine until I met you! I was still a doctor at General Hospital! A good one, too, may I add. I was respected. But when you threatened to tell my wife, well, probably my ex wife now considering everything that happened, about my past, what did you expect me to do?!"
Gislo: "You knew you were no match for me, Sparrow. You didn't want your affair with the lovely nurse to come out, especially since your wife knew nothing about it. Speaking of affairs, why did you cheat on your wife?"
Joshua: (angrily) "That's none of your damn business."
(Joshua walks in a circle, thinking for a minute before facing Gislo again)
Joshua: "Why should I tell you, anyway?" (scoffs) "Considering you have ways to dig up information that doesn't concern you, I shouldn't be surprised if you do find out."
Gislo: (nodding) "You're right, Joshua. I do always find out what people want to be kept hidden is. Nurse Linda…." (chuckles) "…It was so easy to find out her weakest spots. The things she wanted to keep hidden. Like I said, I always have my ways in finding out people's secrets."
Joshua: (angrily) "You shouldn't have blackmailed her, Sparrow. She's innocent in all this."
Gislo: (surprised) "Innocent, huh? How do you figure that? She needed help financially and I was more than happy to help her out."
Joshua: "Yeah, but she didn't know what kind of person you really were at the time. She thought you were a decent human being who just wanted to help her out when she was struggling financially, especially with her sick kid."
Gislo: (shrugs) "She must not have minded asking for help even after she knew who I really was."
Joshua: (scoffs) "That's because by then you were blackmailing her so she knew if she needed money, which she did, you would help her, in exchange for her services."
(Gislo turns his head to the side briefly, then looks back at Joshua)
Gislo: "She could've gotten out if she wanted to. She didn't need to keep asking me for money."
Joshua: (shocked) "Gislo, what did you expect? Huh? She knew damn well if she would've said no to your demands, she would've been arrested for her role in Michelle's baby's 'death'."
Gislo: "She got in trouble with that anyway."
Joshua: "Yeah, she got fired from her job. How the hell is she supposed to support her sick kid now? She doesn't have the money to support her son, especially with the condition that he's in."
Gislo: "She knows I have enough money to lend her more if she needs it."
(Joshua walks up to him, close enough where he's standing right in front of a sitting Gislo)
Joshua: (angrily) "You know damn well she doesn't like asking you for money."
Gislo: "Yet, she keeps asking for more."
Joshua: "I'm warning you, Gislo. Leave her alone."
(Gislo looks at Joshua calmly at first, but then he gets a mean look on his face. He slowly gets up from his bunk bed and walks slowly to Joshua, causing him to walk backwards)
Gislo: "I'm warning you, Sparrow. Stay out of it, unless you want more secrets out in the open."
(Joshua shakes his head in response and throws his hands up in the air, angrily)
Joshua: "I don't care anymore, man! Okay?! I don't care! Do whatever the hell you want with me. I'm at the point right now where I don't give a damn anymore! If you've ever done anything decent in your pathetic, miserable life, you'll leave her out of it."
Gislo: (laughs) "Oh, Joshua, I didn't know you cared so much for your pretty little nurse. Does your wife know you care more for the nurse than her?"
Joshua: "I love my wife."
Gislo: "But not as much as the nurse. Does your wife know which nurse at General Hospital you're crushing on?"
(Joshua walks up to Gislo and gives him a mean look)
Joshua: "Go to hell."
(Joshua walks away and Gislo laughs loudly. Joshua starts to pick up the pieces of his puzzle as Gislo watches him for a second before going back to his bunk bed and relaxes again)
Gislo: (thinks to himself) "If you think, Sparrow, that you or that pretty nurse is getting out of all this without getting in deeper with me, you have another thing coming. No one double crosses me and gets away with it. No one."
(He laughs to himself, his laugh echoing)
