George was frustrated. He didn't dare go into the hospital and no matter who he called he couldn't get
any information on his brother without giving himself away.
Vasily was dead, nothing could change that, so he didn't want to give himself away just yet. Not until he
killed the American bastard.
"I wasn't Vasily's attorney so I can't make too many, if any, inquiries on his behalf." Dennis said
nervously from the passenger seat.
"Da da." George all but growled.
"So, what are we doing here?" Dennis asked.
"Watching."
"Watching what?" Dennis sighed quietly. "If the naval officer is to be discharged, I'm sure he will be
under police protection. He'll be untouchable."
"So, you say."
"Aren't you concerned about being discovered here?"
"I am not concerned. dont know my whereabouts and thats why we watch. That man will leave
sooner or later. From here, we watch the garage complex and the entrance. When he leaves, we
follow. Hopefully, he goes to Lynnette and I kill them both.
Dennis felt like throwing up. The situation was getting worse by the hour. He needed to find a way out
of this situation, desperately.

Hi Chin. Whats new? Danny asked. "Anything amiss? Do you have any concerns?"
"All quiet here, boss. I don't see any concerns at this time." Kelley reported.
"How's Steve? Is Catherine concerned about him? How's she doing?"
"She is unfazed, truly an extraordinary woman. If I wasn't there, I wouldn't believe she was involved in
the brother's attack."
"Is Steve brooding?"
"Not at all, he's in a good mood. I suspect that like most people, he doesn't care too much for dentists."
"Anyone that has seen 'Marathon Man' I suspect." Danny chuckled. "I had an impacted tooth that was
killing me. Rachel and I watched that movie and I cancelled my dental appointment the next morning."
Chin laughed. "So much for 'killing' you."
"I was still in a hell of a lot of pain, but that movie freaked me the fuck out!"
The Asian officer moved the mouthpiece of his phone away from his mouth. He didn't want to risk
pissing the boss off with his snickering.
"I'm worried about Steve. When an officer is involved in a fatal shooting, they get mandatory
counseling. Think he needs to talk to someone?" Danny asked in a concerned tone.
"I think he's fine. The navy trains their elite commandos to compartmentalize until the end of their
missions. Then they go through a deep debrief. I'm sure he's treating this as a mission."
"How do you know?"
"When I was a kid on Oahu, I used to watch these guys train. They are tough S.O.B.s. I have no doubt in
McGarrett. He's got to be tough, the navy made him a commander."
"True, good points but humor me. Just keep an eye on him. Okay?"
"Will do, boss."
"Call me if you need anything or the situation changes."
"Affirmative."
"Don't let your guard down, trust no one but Steve and Catherine."
"I won't. Maybe you could send Lou. Just in case George shows up."
"Consider it done. I'll let you know when he's on his way."
"Thanks boss."
Chin hung up. He joined Steve and Catherine at their table. He smiled as he sat down. "Sgt. Williams
sends his regards."
Steve smiled as he drank.
"How is he?" Catherine asked between bites of her salad.
"He's fine. Glad he isn't the one going to the dentist." Chin smiled.
"I'll bet he's seen Marathon Man once or twice." Steve chuckled before he resumed drinking.
"I don't think I have." Catherine shook her head.
"Nazis and an evil dentist." Steve replied. "It's a classic. You will never look at a dentist the same way.
His character is one of the all-time classic villains."
"Pass."
Steve exchanged an amused look with Chin. Both men laughed.
Catherine gave them both a dirty look. She focused on her salad, effectively ignoring both of them.
Roberta brought Chin's lunch plate to him.
Steve eyed the double cheeseburger jealously.
Kelley noticed. "Sorry brah."
"No worries. Soon." Steve returned to his protein shake.

"Hey Lou, can you come in here a sec." Danny called to the bullpen.
Lou left his desk and headed to Danny's office. "Whatcha need boss?"
"I need you to get to the hospital and back up Chin. Just in case George decides to strike when Steve's in
the dental chair…"
"Gotcha boss. No problem. I'll get my gear and head out."
Danny nodded his approval. He watched Lou pack his gear and decided to join him. He had to hussle but
he walked up to Lou, who was waiting at the elevators.
"Whatcha doing?"
"It's a long drive, thought you could use the company."
"Thanks boss."

Approaching New Brunswick, the conversation turned from office politics, office gossip and sports to the
case at hand.
"Hey Danny, do you think Federchuk will be crazy enough to try to get to McGarrett at the hospital?"
Lou asked, keeping his eyes on the road.
Danny sighed and readjusted himself in the passenger seat. "I think Kono hit it on the head: He's
emboldened by his 'successes' and now, he no doubt blames Steve for 'murdering' his brother. He is
driven by revenge and rage now." He folded his arms across his chest. "I bet he is stupid enough to try."
"I'm sure George doesn't see that Steve didn't have a choice; it was kill or be killed."
"After hearing Steve talk about Catherine, I'm not surprised by his actions at all. But you're right;
George won't see it that way. I'm sure in his mind, he owes Steve one." Danny said thoughtfully.
"Agreed. I just think that's an awful big chance. To come here to try to kill McGarrett is suicidal, say he
manages to get past Kelley, Catherine, you and me, Steve isn't going to just lay down and die." Lou said.
"So, let's hope he is a stupid, overconfident slob."

With lunch over, the trio stopped at the hospital gift shop.
"Cards, Monopoly, or Trivia Pursuit?" Kelley asked. "What's your pleasure, Steve?"
"Cat will kill us at Trivia Pursuit, with a smile on her face. Cards or Monopoly." Steve answered.
"Something truly random or she'll kick our asses."
Catherine grinned. "So true. Steve's never beaten me at Bridge."
"Okay, Monopoly it is." Kelley decided.
Game in hand, they headed for Steve's room. Catherine and Steve waited by the elevators while Kelley
went on ahead.
"Hello ladies, everything here quiet?" Kelley asked with a smile. "Nothing new or out of the ordinary?"
"Same shit, different day." Melissa replied as Karen giggled. He went on to Steve's room.
"Hi Melissa. How's the evening shift going?" Steve asked.
"We're okay. How are you? Doing okay after dental surgery?" Melissa asked.
The smiling face of the sea child came to Steve's mind. Surgery went well, thanks. No pain."
"Good. But if you start hurting, you call me. Don't give pain a foothold." Melissa cautioned.
'I will."
Kelley appeared in the hallway and gave the couple another all clear sign.
Catherine waited while Steve put his feet in the wheelchair's foot rests. "Hey ladies, how about we treat
you to sub sandwiches or pizza at dinnertime?"
"That would be a welcome change to the cafeteria's offerings. Thank you, Miss Catherine." Melissa
smiled while Karen nodded enthusiastically.
Catherine smiled as she pushed Steve down to his room.
"That was very thoughtful of you, Cat. I love you." Steve said over his shoulder.
"I'm sure they are as sick of cafeteria food as I am. Sorry Mustang, I'm eating a sub sandwich tonight."
"Well, I might too. If the bread is soft, I can have tuna and vegetables. Even if I can't, you need to eat
something more than salads, you're getting too skinny." He teased.
"Oh, really?"
Steve chuckled. "I noticed it in the shower."
"YOU haven't seen me naked in weeks, months.
"I know every curve, every detail, committed to my memory. You are getting skinny; I love your curves.
Don't deprive me of my favorite thing, please."
"You're getting skinny too, losing muscle definition," Catherine teased. "I fell in love with those
muscles."
The conversation was put on hold as they wheeled into Steve's room.
"It's clear." Chin said. "Ready to lose at Monopoly?"
"Bring it on!" Steve challenged.

"Think Steve is sleeping?" Lou asked.
Danny considered. "He had dental surgery this morning. I'm sure he has recovered by now."
They got off the elevator and proceeded to the nurses' station. "Good evening, ladies." Danny flashed
his badge. "What room have you stashed Commander McGarrett in?"
"No need for the badge, sergeant, I remember you." Melissa smiled. "We put him in the family room in
the middle of the hall."
"'Family room'?"
"Bigger room, kitchenette, bigger bathroom. We use it for traveling families. It was occupied when the
Commander was transferred to this floor."
"Almost like a hotel."
"Officer Kelley is directly across the hall; in case he is needed."
"Fantastic."
Danny and Lou proceeded to the family room. Danny went to push the door and found it locked, from
the inside. He knocked.
"Identify yourself, please." Chin's voice came through the door.
"It's Williams and Grover."
The door unlocked and Kelley opened the door. "Good to see you."
"What are you guys doing up in here?" Lou asked as he came into the room. "Monopoly? Deal me in!"
"Really Chin?" Danny asked.
Chin shrugged.
"Gotta pass the time someway. Thanks Catherine." Lou accepted the start paper monies from her.
"Are you the banker?"
"Yes, I lost rock, paper, scissors."
"How adult. Steve's idea I'll wager."
"Whatever are you trying to say, Danny?" Steve grinned.
"You're a child." Danny quipped.
As if to prove the detective correct, Steve stuck his tongue out at Danny.
"Real mature. You goof."
"I know you are but what am I?"
"I hate you."
"Of course, you do." Steve's grin got bigger. "I hate you too."
"Knock it off you two. Danny, are you in or not?" Catherine scolded. "Unless..?"
"I'm in. And I'm the shoe, I'm always the shoe."
Steve found the shoe and passed it to Danny. "I'm always the dog. I'll piss on your shoe later."
"Gumshoe, you jerk."
Steve shrugged, grinning. "Still."
"You think you're cute, don't you?"
Steve grinned.
"He's adorable." Catherine interjected.
"You're biased." Lou weighed in.
"You poor girl, do you know what you're getting into?" Danny asked.
"I sure do." Catherine got up, pulled Steve's wheelchair out from the table and draped herself in the
Commander's lap.
Steve grabbed her lovingly. "My Cat."
"Can we please play monopoly now?" Lou asked.
"Your funeral." Chin said as he sat back down after securing the door. "Whose move?"
