Chapter 51

Katja Neville

Wendy

I groaned uncomfortably as we neared Mildian Academy. It was Natsu, Lisanna, Gray, Lucy, Bickslow, Carla, Happy and I on this "mission". Master recommended that Bickslow accompany us to help reintegrate him into the guild. Apparently under Laxus's command, the Thunder God Tribe rarely interacted with other members.

That wasn't why I was uncomfortable though; I really had to use the restroom. Once we got into the building, I immediately spotted a restroom and excused myself.

"Be right back!" I shouted as I bolted into the bathroom.

I didn't bother to see if anyone replied. I made it to the bathroom, relieved myself, and was ready to meet back up with the rest of my friends. The problem was none of them waited for me. That was fine, all I needed to do was find the main office. We were told to meet with the principal there.

I wandered the hall for a few moments when an older woman approached me. She had an annoyed expression that was directed at me. I assumed she was teacher.

"Young lady, what do you think you're doing?" she asked sternly.

"I'm looking for the main office." I replied, completely immune to her anger, "Could you-"

Before I could finish my sentence, she grabbed my wrist and dragged me through the school, "Who do you think you are? First you come in late, and now you don't have your uniform. Are we going to be having problems all day, Katja?"

I looked at her in confusion before I realized the mistake this woman had made, "Oh, Miss, you're mistaken. I'm Wendy, not Katja. I'm here with Fairy Tail for your festival."

"Lying now?"

We walked into a teacher's office and I was about to roll up the sleeve of my shirt to show her my guild mark. I usually wore sleeveless dresses, but the weather was supposed to be colder around these parts, so I wore a shirt that covered my guild mark. She took me to storage room and thrusted a spare uniform at me. It was actually pretty cute. It consisted of a white button-down shirt, a red jacket, and a matching skirt. All it was missing was stockings and a tie of some sort. Unfortunately, I didn't have either of those on me.

"Now get changed!" she pointed towards a bathroom on the other side of the office.

I was going to argue and show her my guild mark, when a fun idea occurred to me. I had never gone to school before! I could pretend to be this Katja girl and see what school was like!

I bowed to the teacher and left to the restroom to change. I was impressed by the outfit. I might actually keep it. I would have to change the emblem though. I'm a Fairy Tail mage, not a Mildian Academy student.

I came out and the teacher guided me to my new classroom. Fortunately for me, she took mewhere to my seat myself, so I didn't have to make a fool of myself trying to find it. Around me though, I could hear the whispering of the other students.

"I heard she tried to skip."

"She's such an idiot, coming to school in regular clothes."

"Loser."

I furrowed my brow. It didn't sound like this girl was well liked. I chose to ignore the whisperings for now. The teacher ordered us to pull out a math book. I found the book in her desk and took a quick look in the front cover. It had a bit more info on this girl. Her full name was written inside, Katja Neville.

I turned to the page the teacher told us to turn to. It was already half filled out. I looked around and saw that the other student's pages were in a similar condition. To my horror though, it looked like a good three quarters of the problems were done incorrectly. I may not attend regular school, but Mystogan, Porlyusica, and Master Makarov made sure I was well educated.

I easily managed to fill out the rest of the page with time to spare. While everyone else was still busy with the second half of the page, I was sitting around waiting for them to finish. The work on this page was way below what I was used to. Porlyusica was very strict when it came to my education.

I screamed out in pain, as the girl behind me grabbed one of my pigtails and pulled down. It wasn't a playful tug either. This girl was clearly trying to hurt me.

"Katja, keep it down!" the teacher yelled at me.

I looked at the teacher in shock, but she wasn't paying attention. The girl behind me literally just pulled my hair! Why was I being yelled at? I turned around and looked at the girl who pulled my hair. She was stifling a laugh. I gave her an evil glare and bared my fangs at her. That only served to make her giggle even more. Maybe Mystogan was right, my intimidation face wasn't very scary.

"Katja, stop distracting Brianna."

I continued through the day without any other major incident. The other students joined Brianna in trying to torment me, but I just tried to ignore them. I figured out though that Brianna used wind magic, much to my glee. She tried to use it to blow my pencil out of my hand, but years upon years of training made it virtually impossible to trick me with something so lame as that.

Finally, we were nearing the end of the school day. I couldn't wait for it to be over. The kids in this class did nothing but bully Katja. I couldn't blame her for skipping. It didn't seem like she was particularly good at anything either based on the work I observed from her books. I was beginning to think this girl might be the exact opposite of me!

The final class of the day was Magic Training. If I recall correctly, this was the class Fairy Tail was asked to aid with. I was going to get so mad at them for not checking on me! At the same time though, I hoped that we would get to spar. I want to knock that Brianna girl down a few pegs.

Speaking of Brianna, as we were walking to the gymnasium, she sent a gust of wind my way and lifted my skirt up! I quickly brought it down with my hands and looked at Brianna angrily. She was just trying not bust out into laughter. The other students behind me were snickering along with her. Oh, I was really hoping for the chance to put her in her place.

We finally made it to the gymnasium, where all my friends were waiting. I immediately made eye contact with Natsu and Carla. They were both confused about what I was doing here.

"Now, we have some very special guests with us." The instructor told us, "We have here mages from the Fairy Tail guild. How about we have them introduce themselves."

Natsu stepped up first, "The name's Natsu Dragneel, I'm a Fire Dragon Slayer! Nice to meet you!"

Natsu lit his hand on fire to literally nobody's amazement.

Next up with Lisanna, "My name is Lisanna Strauss, and I am a Takeover mage."

"I'm Gray Fullbuster. I'm an Ice-Make mage and a student of the Ten Wizard Saint Ur Milkovich."

That managed to get a reaction out the students. They were in awe at that revelation.

"My name is Bicklow, and I use…Doll Magic. And these are my babies!"

I knew that wasn't the name of his magic. It was Human Possession magic, but that was probably a frightening thing to say to a bunch of students.

"I'm Happy, and I can fly!" Happy sprouted wings and flew around.

Carla mimicked Happy and introduced herself, "My name is Carla. I can fly as well."

The students were actually in awe at the flying, talking cats.

Finally, came Lucy, "Hi, my name is Lucy Heartfilia. I am an alumnus of Mildian Academy, and I use Celestial Spirit Magic."

"Lame." I heard a few kids whisper.

The instructor then took the wheel, "Okay, now we are going to split each of you up into groups based on your magic's compatibility. Unfortunately, we are missing a volunteer who does specialize in Sky Magic."

I smiled to myself. Without a doubt, Brianna would have ended up in my group. Now she wasn't going to get my expert training. I looked at her and saw the annoyed look on her face.

"Are you kidding me?" she whispered.

The instructor split us all up into groups. I was in a relatively small group with Lucy. Carla was also helping her, but I had a feeling she was more suspicious that I was actually me rather than a student.

We gave our introductions and got to work. Lucy summoned Loke, something which actually impressed the other girls in my group and worked with them. Lucy pulled me aside along with Carla.

"Hi, Katja right?"

"No." I replied with a knowing smile, "Sorry Lucy, but Natsu would have more luck teaching me something new."

Lucy looked at me confused. Did she really not get that I'm Wendy?

"You're teachers told me that you use Celestial Spirit Magic."

I shook my head no, "I use Sky Dragon Slayer Magic."

"What?" Lucy looked at me for a moment before exclaiming in a hushed whisper, "Wendy!?"

I nodded my head with a big grin.

"What are you doing with the students?" Carla asked.

"I thought it would be fun."

Carla folded her arms and gave me a stern look, "You're supposed to be volunteering. How did you not get caught?"

"I don't know, I guess I just really resemble this Katja girl."

Lucy sighed, "Come on, I'll clear all this up."

I grabbed Lucy's arm and stopped her, "Hold on, are there going to be any spars today?"

"Yeah, why?"

I smiled deviously, "That Brianna girl has been bullying me all day. I want a chance to face her."

Lucy considered my proposition for a moment and then returned my devious grin, "I can get behind that."

"Hold on," came Carla, "Wendy, you can't just beat up a girl like that."

"Relax, I won't hurt her too bad. Plus, I can always just heal her. It'll be fine, I know how to control myself."

Carla still didn't look convinced but relented.

For the rest of the training time, I sat around with Lucy talking and got to know her a bit better.

"Alright, time for some sparring!" Natsu cried out at the top of his lungs.

Everyone gathered around an arena at the back of the gym. It was pretty small and didn't leave much room for maneuvers. It was clearly just for practice. The students and I sat down surrounding the arena.

Lucy walked up to Natsu and whispered something in his ear. It was kind of surprising to see Natsu be the ringleader for this sort of thing.

"Alright, we're going to shake things up a bit. We're going to choose the first person, and they will choose their opponent."

The instructor stepped up with a concerned look on his face and whispered something to Natsu. Whatever the problem was, Natsu reassured the instructor that everything was fine.

With everything settled, Lucy spoke up and chose the first combatant, "The first combatant will be Katja Neville."

I got up and tried to shakily approach the arena. I wanted to make it look like I was worried. I'm not sure that I did a very good job of it. I stepped up onto the arena with Natsu.

Natsu patted me on the back, "So who's going to be your opponent?"

I looked at Natsu with a faux concerned expression, "Brianna", I told him in the shakiest voice I could muster.

"Brianna!" Natsu called out.

The girl who had been tormenting me all day jumped up with a wicked smile on her face. She giddily hopped over came up onto the arena with me. She had this confident look about her, like she was about to wipe the floor with me.

Natsu gave us some basic instructions, something about not seriously hurting each other, and then got off the arena. We stared each other down.

"You made a mistake Katja, I'm gonna embarrass you in front of the whole class!"

I ignored her empty taunt and fell into my battle stance. It was clear Brianna didn't view me as a threat at all. She should have been able to tell my stance was different then usual. I don't know what kind of stance Katja uses, but mine is based on the usage of Sky Dragon Slayer Magic. If Katja uses Celestial Spirit Magic, then hers should be radically different.

"You may begin in 3…2…1, FIGHT!"

Brianna through her hands out to her sides and charged up magic in them. She brought them together and fired a gust of wind at me. As she did this, I realized I could easily close the distance between the two of us and land a solid blow on the amateur no problem. Could even knock her out of her spell. I chose to tank the hit though. There was no way she could harm me.

"Tornado!" A spiraling tornado of wind struck me but did very little to actually affect me. All I needed to do was lower myself a little to stabilize and keep myself from being thrown back.

Once the spell ended, I looked up to see a shocked Brianna, "Wha-how did my spell not work."

It was my turn to smile wickedly at Brianna, "Maybe you shouldn't underestimate your opponent. Here, let me show you what wind can actually do."

I slammed my fists together and gathered up wind in my lungs. I felt my lungs expand as the magical wind gained power. Finally, I released my spell, "Sky Dragon's Roar!"

I much large tornado of wind blasted out of my mouth. There was nothing Brianna could do. She took the hit head on and was launched out of the arena in one blow. Fortunately, Natsu had positioned himself just right to catch Brianna and keep her from getting hurt. The worst thing she got from my attack was a bad hair day and a humiliating defeat.

The whole class was speechless. I looked around at the stunned faces and even found the teacher, who forced me to join the class, had joined us in the gym. Everyone one was speechless. Nobody believed that I stood a chance.

"The winner is Wendy Marvel!" Natsu announced, much to everyone's confusion.

I stepped up confidently to address my new classmates, "Hello, I'm Wendy Marvel, and I'm the Sky Dragon Slayer of Fairy Tail." I then rolled up my sleeve to show the class the Fairy Tail guild mark on my arm.

Everyone erupted into confusion while I couldn't help but feel something similar to pride in myself.

"Hold on," The instructor called out, "If you're Wendy, then where's Katja?"
