Provide

She stilled as his hand settled on her shoulder. She gasped as he turned her around. She closed her eyes at his words. The tears wanted to keep on coming and she wanted to let them but for the almost…gentle look in his eyes. Slowly, she nodded and after a few silent minutes of getting control of herself, settled her own hand on the one on her shoulder. "Thank you, Tashio-san, for listening."

Part of her wanted to ask what Rin was doing out that night but already, as her tears stopped and she gathered her calm, Kagome could see him pulling back into himself, becoming that cold stoic CEO the rest of the world knew. When he let go of her and took a few careful steps back to give her space, he nodded. When there was more silence, this time awkward with neither sure what to say, he cleared his throat slightly and brought up the other reason he had stayed tonight. "This one wishes…to help provide for the child."

She gasped and her eyes widened comically. Never in a bazillion years would she have thought he would have said that. Except that she remembered Rin and suddenly it made sense. Still, she didn't want his money. Slowly, she shook her head and smiled softly. "I don't really want your money, Tashio-san, I wasn't lying in the café when I said that." she said, the words quiet but the emotion in her eyes bright and a little cheeky.

He paused and frowned, on the verge of speaking. Although he hadn't been thinking about money when he'd spoken, he couldn't help but to look around the tiny, somewhat sparse apartment. Raising a brow, he clarified. "I wish to know the child."

Kagome smiled a brilliant, heartwarming smile that, had she but known, warmed her companion's spirit. "I would like that," she said.
