Chapter 96
.
The Ambassador's sources told him of senator Chiles' confession to Will Macovoy. As a journalist Will was still searching, trying to find credible sources to determine if Chiles story was in any way true. The ambassador spoke with others, people who remembered Patrica Turner and Hank Jones being around in the 2050s. This made some sense, if the nazies really were trying to covertly infiltrate american society for decades, even centuries, perhaps some were awoken later in some dimensions than in others. Either way, they were still preaching some form of race hatred, but now they had a more receptive audience than they might have had otherwise. The overall mission of Evil seemed to be to get as many people as possible to hate, to fight, to kill, and thus damn themselves for nearly eternity. To make humanity hate alien refugees, they had to give some examples of ARs hurting innocent people. There were reports, some actually credible, of this. A young woman named Ariel, who robbed stores, killed people, and bragged about her sins on social media. There was also Chris and Kelly, two young lovers who robbed banks, and handed out copies of their music to their hostages. And ofcourse Jill Prescott, a serial killer who murdered innocent people and used her notoriety to get more fame. There were refugees in Antarctica who could vouch that these individuals had done these things already in different worlds. Ariel had been captured and executed in the electric chair in her own world. Chris and Kelly had died in a shootout with the police. Jill had been killed in self-defense by her own cousin Sydney. But these criminals were up to their old tricks, and they got the fame they had always wanted, even fans. Most hated what they stood for, some even associated them with all aliens, and they came to hate aliens. The ambassador held a meeting with captain Jean-Luc Picard. In his world captain Picard obeyed a principle called the Prime Directive. It said that his government, known as the United Federation of Planets, was prohibited from directly interfering with less developed civilizations. Antarctica was clearly more developed than America or the rest of the world. Whether or not they should interfere now, the Ambassador wanted various opinions on that.
.
Picard: History has shown, time and again, that whenever an advanced civilization interferes with a less developed civilization, however well intentioned it begins, has led to disaster, practically without exception. This was the case in this own world, numerous times. When America tried to interfere in Vietnam, Iraq.
Ambassador: You're not wrong. But the fact is that Evil is already sending it's ambassadors out to commit crimes, and make sure we are all blamed. Should we just let one side dominate?
Picard: In my world, captain Kirk had a similar dilemma. The Federation was having it's own cold war with the Klingon Empire. We came across a planet that was at war, particularly two factions. The klingons supplied one faction with superior weapons, expecting they would wipe out the other faction and istitute a pro-klingon government. Kirk decided to arm the other faction with the same weapons, allowing the two sides to at least fight on equal terms. Had he known that their civil was would continue for entire generations, perhaps he would have reconsidered. Kirk was not the only one who interpreted the Prime Directive to put things on equal terms. Every single time it led to longer wars.
Ambassador: Magneto and others are arguing we should be more active in rescuing potential refugees from this world. I wonder, if we were to go in to arrest aliens like Chris and Kelly, Jill Prescott. We could not do this without the support of their respective government ofcourse. But if we had that support...
Picard: For how long. We send cops, maybe Evil sends supervillains. Then who do we send, superheroes? How long before there is significant collateral damage?
Ambassador: In which case the SBA and other groups use this to stir up more hatred of all of us.
Picard: Even if the SBA is a nazi front organization, it wouldn't just be nazies who hate us after that.
Ambassador: You point is well taken captain. I will consider all of our options.
