"I can't have one night of sleep without a dream," Reyna muttered as she looked around the room that she was in. The founder of the Mistveil stood across from her and leaned against a pillar. Reyna slowly looked around the room they were in.
The room itself was made of solid stone. Torches lined the wall every three feet, but those torches barely illuminated the middle of the room. Reyna slowly moved closer to the middle of the room and stared at the altar in front of her.
There seemed to be a table, but upon closer inspection, she realized it was a casket. It seemed to be made of iron, but it was covered in dirt. There was a bowl in the middle of the casket, and Reyna stared down at the contents of the bowl. She turned away. If she wasn't dreaming, she would be throwing up her meager dinner.
"Do you see how they mock me?" the founder of the Mistveil asked. He walked towards the bowl "When I was killed, my body was desecrated. Those pirates used my corpse as their toy, and I was not able to recover it like you and Damon were. I was forced to wander as this spirit."
"Do I have to listen to your sob story?" Reyna questioned. She swallowed painfully and tried to get the image of the bowl out of her mind. "I don't care."
"They mock me," the man said. He spat in disgust. "I was able to recover my body and give myself a proper funeral. I made this place as my base, and when I linked myself to Damon, I showed him where it was. He decided to make this the base of the Mistveil. This is the inner sanctum."
"Why show me this?" Reyna muttered. "I don't care. I just want to get some sleep."
"It is too late for that," the man said with a dismissive wave of his hand. Reyna rolled her eyes. She heard the sound of a door opening and turned her head. Reyna watched the group of people that walked into the room. "There are thirty-two of them left by my count. Including your two favorite people."
Reyna watched the crowd part for their captain and that damned traitor. Damon had a satisfied smile on his face. Kendall followed behind with her own smug look. Reyna clenched her fist and reminded herself that it was just a dream. There was nothing she could do to them now.
Damon made it to the front of his crew and clapped his hands together. Kendall stood by his side. Damon spoke, "As you all know, we dealt a devastating blow to our rivals. Captain Hylla and her Quartermaster Reyna are no more. That is all thanks to our newest quartermaster."
"It is now time for Kendall to join our ranks," Damon continued. The crowd broke out in a cheer. To her right, the founder of the Mistveil sighed. He made his way to her side.
"Keep in mind this happened a few days ago. Time moves differently on that island of yours. What seems like a few hours was really a few days," the founder said softly.
"Kendall will do as we all have and give an irreplaceable part of herself to our great master," Damon said. The founder huffed. "She will finally become a full member of the Mistveil. Kendall?"
"It is an honor," Kendall said. Damon grabbed a knife from his side and walked toward Kendall. He held the knife out. Kendall took a deep breath and grabbed the blade. Then, she walked towards the casket and the bowl.
"Master, please accept our offering as another joins your rank. Grant her the same power you have granted us and allow us to continue conquests in your name," Damon said. Kendall began to raise the knife towards her mouth.
"They treat me as a god in one moment and then spit in my face the next. Pathetic," the founder muttered, but Reyna didn't hear him. She focused on Kendall. Reyna hoped it hurt when Kendall cut her tongue out. And that it got infected.
Rage filled Reyna's veins. Her mind flashed back to what Kendall had done to her. That bitch pretended like she was a loyal member of their crew, and she was the reason that Hylla was dead. Kendall laughed as she watched Reyna have a breakdown.
All Reyna wanted to do was wrap her hands around Kendall's neck and squeeze. She wanted to watch the life drain out of Kendall's eyes. Then, Reyna wanted to do the same thing to Damon. She wanted to kill both of them. She was going to torture and kill both of them.
"I'm in," Reyna said. She looked at the founder of the Mistveil. "I'll be your puppet or whatever I have to be, as long as you swear I will be able to kill them and bring my sister back. That is all I want."
"I can promise that," the founder said. He studied Reyna, but she looked away. Her gaze focused on that damned traitor. She could not wait to kill Kendall and then Damon. Before she could get her hands on Damon, she would have to kill all of his crew first. That was something she could do, but she would need help with it. Help from her crew.
When Reyna woke up, she would try to talk to Calypso one more time. If Calypso wouldn't see the logic in just leaving the damn island, Reyna would take matters into her own hands. An angry breath left her, and she watched Kendall open her mouth.
One of the Mistveil pirates suddenly yelled in pain. Kendall dropped the knife in surprise, and Damon whirled around. The Mistveil pirate collapsed to their knees and buried their head in both of their hands. Another yell escaped them.
"Britta?" Damon questioned. The room was dead silent for a moment. All of the Mistveil pirates were staring at their fallen companion. Britta slowly stood and looked up. She wiped the blood from her mouth and grinned.
"Damon," Britta said, but it wasn't in her voice. It wasn't in the mixture of voices that all of the members of the Mistveil spoke in. Britta spoke with the voice of the founder of the Mistveil. To her right, the lips of the founder of the Mistveil moved as Britta spoke.
"Master," Damon whispered. He bowed his head. "We have another member ready to fully join you. She helped me destroy my rival."
"Which rival?" Britta asked. She laughed, but the sound was like a record being scratched. Reyna cringed and watched Britta walked towards Damon. "You killed the captain, but who replaces the captain?"
"The quartermaster," Damon answered. "But, I killed her. We threw Reyna's corpse into the ocean."
"But, she swore revenge on you, just like I wanted. She crawled out of the sea and is planning on how to destroy your world," Britta said. A cruel smile came to her face. "I cannot wait for it."
"Master, what are you talking about?" Damon questioned. Britta didn't answer. Her eyes rolled into the back of her head, and she collapsed. Damon stepped forward and looked back at Kendall. "Don't do it."
Kendall slowly lowered the knife and frowned. She seemed upset. Reyna wished that Kendall had cut her tongue out. She wanted to see that bitch suffer. Damon walked towards Britta and knelt next to her. He slowly looked up at his pirates.
"This is not something that we should worry about," Damon began. "Our master just has a fantasy that one of those pirate sisters would be better than us. We, no. I will handle her. Kendall and I will put the ghost back in her grave."
Damon stood and looked at Kendall. The rest of the crew couldn't see his face, but he had a concerned expression. Reyna smirked. They were right to be scared of her. Reyna was going to kill them, and she was going to enjoy every single second of it.
"Time flows differently on the island," the founder said. Reyna glanced at him, and the temple around her changed. The room was well lit now, as the sun seemed to be shining down on it. Reyna glanced up to see that there was no roof. Only Kendall and Damon stood in the room now.
Kendall was leaning against the coffin and studied the knife in her hand. It was the same knife that she was going to use to cut out her tongue. Reyna tensed as the sun shone off of the knife, and she realized it had belonged to Hylla.
"I interrupted their mocking ritual two days ago," the founder said. "While you slept, this happened. Another day is currently passing."
Reyna crossed her arms and studied her sister's knife. She had the one that had been left behind on the ship. Reyna was going to reunite the two knives, right into Kendall's throat. The thought of revenge filled her with this new energy. She wanted nothing more than to go right now and find them, but she would make a plan as soon as this dream was over.
"Reyna can't be alive. Her guts spilled all over her ship. We threw her overboard," Kendall said. She looked at Damon. Her captain smiled bitterly.
"Oh, she is alive. Our great leader spared her with the same magic that he gave me. The same magic that brought me back," Damon said.
"How?" Kendall asked. She studied the knife and then placed a hand to her mouth. Reyna felt disappointed that Kendall still had her tongue.
"Before I died, I made a vow to kill those two sisters," Damon answered. He paced back and forth. "Our master told me to wait to kill her. When Reyna swore on the River Styx that she was going to kill me, I was then allowed to kill her."
"Why can't we disobey him. He can't be that powerful," Kendall muttered.
"When we offer him a piece of ourselves, we also offer him a piece of our soul," Damon said. "We become infused with his magic, and he gains control over us in return. That is how he killed Britta by stopping her heart."
"Thirty-one," the founder whispered in Reyna's ear. Reyna nodded. She saw movement in the shadows near the corner of the room. Arke stepped out of the shadows, and a cruel grin appeared on her face.
Kendall jumped to her feet and held the knife in front of her protectively. Damon turned and studied Arke. He spoke, "What do you want?"
"You are the leader of the Mistveil, yes?" Arke questioned. She slowly inched forward.
"I am," Damon answered. "What do you want?"
"I come with a proposition of sorts," Arke said softly. She stopped in front of Damon and looked at his waist. Damon moved his hand to the rod that he kept on his belt. Reyna's skull ached as she remembered it being slammed into her head. If only she could reach through her dream and grab the rod.
"Which is?" Damon questioned.
"You need Reyna before she can destroy your world," Arke whispered. "I know that she is just foaming at the mouth to kill you. I thought that I owed her for helping me find my wings, but she made it clear that I owe her nothing. She does not care for me, and I thought for once I could find a demigod that I called my friend."
"Reyna hated you," Kendall said. A grin came to her face, but she quickly hid it as Arke turned to look at her. "She always talked about how useless you were and that she just needed you to find the island. After we found the island, she was going to turn you over to Zeus."
Arke flinched like she had been slapped. She took a few steps backward and wrapped her arms around herself. Damon glanced at Kendall and spoke, "But, we don't want to harm you. What is the proposition that you have brought us?"
"I want that rod to free my true friend. In exchange for that, you will have Reyna," Arke said. "My associate will bring you Reyna if you bring him the rod. He wants the island, and you get the girl. And your life. I know something is wrong with her. Something unnatural."
"Will you really exchange the island for Reyna?" Kendall asked softly. "We can control the seas with it."
"We can't control the seas if we are dead," Damon said. He turned towards Arke and pulled the rod from his belt. "Once Reyna is with me, I will give this rod to you. Do we have a deal?"
"We do," Arke said. A cruel grin crossed her face. Reyna glared at the goddess and clenched her fist. She wished that Arke would try anything. It wasn't like the goddess was sane enough to pose a threat.
"I would wake," the founder of the Mistveil whispered. A chill ran down Reyna's spine, and her eyes snapped open. Reyna groaned and slowly ran both hands across her face. The dreams were at the front of her mind. It took her a moment to sit up.
Reyna rubbed her temples and tried to think. She slowly made it out of bed and changed her clothes. Her mind went over the dream, and she thought of her plans. The first thing they had to do was lead the island. The second was to attack the Mistveil base and kill all of them. Reyna would save Damon and Kendall for last. They would have a long, painful death.
Reyna let out an angry breath as she thought of the Mistveil. She needed fresh air. Reyna walked above deck and breathed in the air. It was nighttime now, and a glance at the island showed no movement. The demigods were probably asleep without a care in the world.
The rest of the pirates were asleep below deck. One pirate was keeping a lookout on the crow's nest. Reyna glanced up to find the pirate that was on lookout duty, but she didn't see them. Reyna walked towards the ladder that led up to the crow's nest, and her eyes narrowed at the liquid on the ladder. Blood.
Something cold rested against Reyna's back. A voice spoke, "Hey Reyna."
"Marcus," Reyna said softly. She tensed as the gun rested against her spine. It was removed, but before Reyna could whirl around, the shotgun slammed directly into her kidney. Reyna collapsed to her knees. Before she could let out a yell, the shotgun slammed into the back of her head.
Reyna's eyes drifted open as she stared at the deck of her ship. Her hands were tied behind her back, and something cold rested against the back of her head. Reyna could already feel the concussion starting, and she was sure that brain damage was right behind.
"Can you leave my skull alone for two seconds asshole?" Reyna slurred. She tried to get to her hands and knees.
"You pissed off that goddess that was helping you, and I am going to be the recipient of good fortune," Marcus whispered. He forced his knee into Reyna's jaw. "Now, we are going to get moving. Don't try to wake any of your crew."
Reyna didn't say a word, mostly because she couldn't think enough to form proper words. Marcus leaned by her ear and whispered. "Now, I do respect how you manage to make my life easier every time that I run into you. This goddess approached me and made a deal. In exchange for the freedom of that witch Circe, she would tell me the location of this island and how to control it. Now that I have you, I just need to trade you for the rod, and this island will be all mine."
"My crew won't let you have it," Reyna groaned. She was pulled to her feet and dragged towards the edge of her ship. Reyna tried to yell, but the shotgun slammed into her jaw. She collapsed to her knees and let out a whimper of pain.
"I like you enough to tell your crew where you are, in exchange for them evacuating the island," Marcus said. He raised his shotgun, and Reyna slowly looked up at him. She couldn't move from her spot, and she knew there was no escape.
"Wait," Reyna whispered. Marcus watched her closely but finally gave a small nod. "You're taking me to the Mistveil?"
"I am," Marcus said. "I am sorry, kiddo. This is just the art of the deal."
"You can take me to the Mistveil. Just know that I am going to kill all of them. Then, I am going to kill you and your crew," Reyna slurred. She spat up at Marcus, and it hit him right in the face. Marcus slammed the shotgun into Reyna's temple once again, and the world went dark.
