A sliver of moon appeared over Marshank, like a slice of lemon rind suspended in the soft star strewn darkness. Little sound was heard, save for the muted splash of muffled oars and the hoarse muttered curses of Cap'n Tramun Clogg as he urged the four longboats through the dark waters. "C'mon, bend yer backs, ye bottle nosed bandits. Yer might've broken yer mothers' 'earts but ye won't break mine. Pull, me bullies, pull!"

Clogg's ship was beached around a point south of the headland. The wily stoat was planning a surprise attack on Dany. The corsairs rowed steadily as Clogg kept watch.

"Harr, there 'tis, me buckos. Badrang's fine castle! Only it's not Badrang's anymore. And soon it will be mine. Oilback, Wetpaw, keep those ropes an' grapplin' 'ooks close by. I'll give the dragon bitch a night to remember. 'Ere, but wot am I talkin' about? Deadbeasts don't 'ave no memory, an' that's what the 'igh 'n' mighty Queen Daenerys Targaryen will be when I lay sword to her. Dead! I'll take her dragons for myself, or maybe I'll kill them too, I don't know…"

The four boats pressed on through the night waters.

"I never thought I'd find myself fighting to defend Marshank," said Martin the Warrior sadly.

Dany was next to him on the walltop. "Don't think of it as fighting for Marshank. Remember, you're fighting to protect yourself and your friends from Clogg. Once we defeat him, we can leave this evil place for good and go back to Westeros."

"That'll be interesting," said Martin. "I've never been to Westeros before, or anywhere outside of Mossflower really."

"I've never been to Westeros either," Dany confessed. "Not really. I was exiled when I was still a baby. Only reason I know anything about the place at all is because my brother Viserys told me about it."

"Not to be rude, but why do you want to go back so badly, then?" Martin asked.

"I am the rightful heir to the Iron Throne," said Dany. "I am the blood of the dragon!"

Jorah was standing on Dany's other side. She had not had a chance to ask him about his history with Clogg, because he said he would tell her next time they were alone together… and somehow, that moment had never quite come.

Now he pointed out to sea. "Khaleesi! Look! It's Clogg an' his corsairs. They're attackin'!"

"Course they are," said Dany. "I wouldn't expect them to do anything else."

As the boats landed on the shore, Clogg turned to a fox named Crosstooth. "Take half the crew and sneak around back. I know the layout of this place. There should be a secret tunnel entrance in back. The rest of us will make a great show of firin' arrows an' slingin' stones; that way the attack will look like it's comin' from the front, but it won't!"

"Aye-aye, Captain," said Crosstooth. He marched off with his party, while Clogg and the other corsairs rushed for the fortress.

When Clogg got up close, he saw Dany standing on the wall with her hands on her hips. "What do you want this time, stoat?" she said.

Clogg smiled as he looked from side to side at his crew. Savage, bloodthirsty, and eager, each one a picture of barbarism, decked out in their tawdry finery, they displayed an array of the most fearsome looking weapons.

"We want this fortress," said Clogg. "You might have known we'd come back. Where are your dragons? I don't see them."

"They're safe and sound. Don't you worry."

"Why don't you just give up now while you're all still alive, save yourselves and us a great lot of trouble?"

Dany picked up a spear. "It's no trouble, stoat. Why don't you turn your vermin round, go back the way you came and save yourselves the trouble?"

"So that's the way it's going to be, is it?" said Clogg. "So be it. When I get inside, I'll rip yer liver 'n' lights out an' feed 'em to the crabs. I'll cut off'n yer 'ead an' throw it in yer face. I'll string up yer tripes fer riggin'. I'll pickle yer tail in burnin' brine…. Oh wait, you don't have one of those, do you?"

"As threats go, that's hardly the worst I've ever heard," said Dany. "You didn't even mention rape once."

Clogg decided the time for talking was over. "Attack! Kill!"

Dany hurled the spear down at Clogg and barely missed him. The battle was on!

Rocks and spears, arrows and lances filled the air, zinging backwards and forwards between the pirates and the defenders. Some of the vermin tried to throw grapnel ropes up to the walltops so they could climb up, but Dany and her friends stopped them every time. Dany seemed to be everywhere at once, hacking at ropes, hurling boulders and roaring orders.

"Don't let the grapplers get ahold, slash the ropes! Ser Jorah, get to the north corner, use the big spears and long pikes to stab downward! You there, take four more and get down into the courtyard. Reinforce the gates with anything- rocks, timber, sand- anything you can lay paws on!"

For the first time, Dany was taking an active part in a battle, and not just letting men or dragons do all her fighting for her. She rather enjoyed it. She was a hero, just like her brother Rhaegar or her ancestor Aegon the Conqueror!

Meanwhile, Crosstooth and his party had pried open the sewer grate on the other side of the building. They crawled through the tunnel.

When they emerged, they found themselves standing in a deep pit. "It's dark in here," a rat named Wulpp complained. "I wish we'd brought a flashlight along with us."

"Our eyes will adjust to the darkness after a minute," said Crosstooth. "We just need to get our bearings…"

He heard a growl behind him. He turned to find himself face to face with the three dragons!

Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion didn't need to hear the word "dracarys" to know what to do. Three spurts of flame filled the air. As Crosstooth's fur ignited, he let out an awful scream. It was the last sound he ever made.
