Nodoka studied her daughter and noted happily that there was a glow, a peace to her deep blue eyes that the elder Higurashi had not seen in several years. It pleased and fascinated her. She wondered what had happened in that small apartment after she and the others had left; did it have something to do with that Tashio boy? She smiled.
Kagome looked up from the rice cooker and at her mother's smile, tilted her head. "What are you smiling at Mama," she asked, a small one rising to her lips as she spoke.
"Oh nothing, dear. Nothing at all," she answered, her brown eyes twinkling merrily. "Are you excited about the appointment today?"
She hesitated, but shrugged and moved on, turning back to the rice cooker. "Yep! I can't wait. I know I won't know the sex this early but it's still exciting to think that I'm going to see the baby for the first time."
Nodoka smiled again and thought back to her own two pregnancies. Oh, the things she put their father through. She thought about telling Kagome, mostly for laughs but partly so she would know what to expect. Then she thought of that boy who was going to help her now and smiled wider, before deciding not to. Oh, she just couldn't wait to see how things developed between the two.
