A 'submission' is when a fighter ends the fight by conceding defeat. Sometimes, they say it verbally (to prevent injury or further injury), but most often, it's by tapping out, where the fighter physically taps his opponent or the mat to indicate their defeat.

Submission

He cradled her in his arms, her dark head resting in the crook of his elbow. "She is very small," he said. As Inuyasha made an indignant noise at the back of his throat, the infant opened her eyes. Golden. Sesshoumaru tilted his head. "But she has Father's eyes. She will be strong."

"Keh, like that was ever in doubt," Inuyasha said from where he leaned against the foot of the bed. But the half-demon looked pleased at his brother's pronouncement.

Kikyo smiled as she reclined against the pillows. "I'm glad you get to meet your niece, Sesshoumaru."

"And not through iron bars."

"Inuyasha," Kikyo chided.

Sesshoumaru nodded once. "I am also glad of that," he said.

"So, it's really over?" his brother asked.

He continued to look down at the baby in his arms. She'd drifted off to sleep again. "I signed the paperwork yesterday. They require me to testify against Naraku and his minions, but provided I uphold that part of the agreement, the charges against me will be dropped."

Inuyasha's ears twitched. "That was real quick."

"Perhaps someone was whispering in their ear," said Kikyo. She folded her hands on her lap. "Speaking of which, have you called her yet?"

The taiyoukai lifted his head and frowned. "No."

"Whaddya waiting for?" asked Inuyasha. "It's been six weeks since you got out."

He stood and walked over to the bassinet. "No matter what the courts have decided, I am still a criminal, and she is still a police officer."

"It didn't look like she cared about that when you were saying your goodbyes."

"Inuyasha, honestly," Kikyo said. "She hasn't called you either, I'm guessing."

He laid his infant niece down, holding his breath for a moment as he slipped his arm out from under her. She slumbered on, and he exhaled. "We were both caught up in the moment, living lives that were not and never would be ours," he said. Sesshoumaru wasn't sure why he was saying this, except perhaps his sister-in-law looked just enough like Kagome out of the corner of his eye that it spilled out of its own accord. "She is back with her own people, and I am back with mine."

"You're forgetting that we met her, Sesshoumaru."

Inuyasha was more blunt. "She loves you, you idiot."

Kikyo sighed in her husband's direction before looking back at the taiyoukai. "And love is terrifying."
