Silver Beast: Protecting What's Mine
"Naraku..." Inuyasha growled causing Kagome to gasp and tremble against him in fear.
He wanted to shoot himself in the foot for endangering Kagome like this. The last time he'd encountered Naraku in person was over a year ago. That's when Naraku found out he and Kikyo were having an affair. Were it not for Sesshomaru and a few other members of the silver pack showing up to break up the fight he might have died. He thought he'd seen the last of Naraku when he forced Kikyo to move to Alaska. Inuyasha should have known this sick bastard would show himself sooner or later. Now that Kikyo might be pregnant with his pup, he was certain Naraku would make him pay for his sins. What better way for Naraku to hurt him then to come after his woman? An eye for an eye so to speak. His growling darkened when he saw Naraku smirk wickedly back at him. He didn't need to be a psychic to know that Naraku was thinking the same thing. Naraku now knew he had a weakness and was taunting him. It was only a matter of time before he took his revenge.
Seeing how smug Naraku was getting pissed Inuyasha off. He wanted to punch that grin clear off his blood sucking face. Naraku was barking up the wrong tree by threatening Kagome's life. She was his bitch to protect and anyone who dared threaten what was his would pay with their life. He hated how scared Kagome was. He'd make Naraku pay for that as well. His amber eyes momentarily flashed red with warning when Naraku's gaze turned towards Kagome. His blood boiled with anger when he saw Naraku lick his lips with blood lust. Instinctively he shielded her away from Naraku's gaze with his body. How dare this asshole even think of looking at her! He could feel his fangs and claws beginning to lengthen when he saw Naraku laugh. So the sicko thought this was a joke, huh? He'd show him why vampires and werewolves didn't get along. He'd rip him to shreds! He was about to act on his urges when Kagome suddenly tightened herself around him.
"Inuyasha, I'm scared." Kagome whimpered when she heard Inuyasha's growls escalate. "Please, just take me home."
"Kagome, let go. I have to fight him." Inuyasha growled as he tried to pull her off. He gasped when he looked up to find Naraku gone. Where the hell did he go? "Kagome let go! He's getting away!"
"No! Please, don't fight!" Kagome begged as she looked up at him with teary blue eyes.
"Kags," Inuyasha sighed. "I have to go after him. He's threatened your life!"
"I don't care! I just want to go home." Kagome whimpered, breaking his resolve.
"Fine. I won't fight him yet." Inuyasha sighed as he held her tight. "I'll think of something to keep you safe."
"Hm." Kagome nodded as she nuzzled into his chest.
Hearing the bell sound for the last train ride to the exit, they quickly made their way out of the Ramen shop. While they were aboard, Inuyasha scanned the train for any signs of Naraku. He knew the jerk was on board somewhere, but where? He hated to admit it but Naraku had completely caught him off guard. His entire person was on edge, ready to attack at any given moment. He could feel his beast pressing on the back of his mind; begging to be released. The only thing keeping his beast in check was the feeling of Kagome safely pressed against their side. His bitch needed him right now. He'd get his revenge soon. He'd make the bastard pay for scaring his female. As soon as they reached the surface Inuyasha whipped out his cellphone. If Naraku was a threat to his bitch, his alpha needed to know. Fights between vampires and werewolves was nothing new. Those types of disputes were usually handled between the individuals.
It was only when mates and pups were threatened however that everything changed. If Naraku was planning on killing Kagome, Sesshomaru needed to know about it. He'd be able to get the protection needed to keep her and her family safe. Once the society learned of Naraku's threat he'd never be able to touch her. No one was above the law. If Naraku tried to attack an innocent, his freedom would be forfeit. He'd be locked away at the Society jail never to be heard or seen from again. After a very heated phone call with his brother Inuyasha and Kagome began the long drive home. The entire way back Inuyasha checked his rearview mirrors. He couldn't shake the feeling that they were being followed. He couldn't smell Naraku's scent even with his windows down or see his car driving behind. Just because he couldn't see or smell him however didn't mean Naraku wasn't following them. Thankfully his brother had the Higurashi household secured by the time they arrived.
"Were you followed?" Sesshomaru asked as Inuyasha and Kagome stepped out of the car.
"I'm not sure." Inuyasha said as Mrs. Higurashi quickly ushered Kagome inside her house. "I couldn't see or smell him but I have a feeling he ain't too far behind."
"Royakan." Sesshomaru said as he turned towards a silver pack brother.
"Sir." said the brown haired werewolf.
"Go watch at the gate for any suspicious activity. Try to keep hidden." Sesshomaru commanded.
"Yes, Sir." Royakan bowed before dashing off towards the gates.
"So what's the plan?" Inuyasha asked as he noticed Kagome's room light came on.
His ears pinned back on his skull when he heard her crying upstairs with her mom. This was all his fault. If he hadn't have fallen into temptation and slept with Kikyo five months ago Naraku wouldn't have seen them at the Embassy today.
"The Higurashi's have already set up wards around their home. The only way in and out of the household is through the front door. To get past the ward you will need a blessing from the elder."
"Is there a way for Naraku to bring the ward down?" Inuyasha asked.
"The only way to break the ward is from the inside." Sesshomaru explained. "Like opening a window for instance. Each window has a seal over it. If the seal is broken then the entire ward collapses."
"Alright, so no opening windows." Inuyasha nodded. "Anything else?"
"To insure Naraku doesn't attach while Kagome and her family are out of the house Mattaki and myself have arranged for escorts." Sesshomaru said, causing Inuyasha to complain.
"You mean I'm going to be babysat again?" Inuyasha complained. "Aren't I enough protection for Kagome?"
"You won't be able to be with her twenty four seven." Sesshomaru pointed out. "There will be extended periods of time while you're at school that you cannot be by her side. The escort will be able to shadow her when you cannot."
"I guess..." Inuyasha sighed reluctantly.
"Chief Mattaki has also arranged for guards to be stationed around the Higurashi home. This will remain so until Naraku has been confronted." Sesshomaru said just as Koga, Hakkaku and Ginta walked up to them.
"Who the fuck do you think you are half-breed! Endangering my woman like that!" Koga sneered, causing Inuyasha's hair to bristle.
"Your woman?" Inuyasha growled as his eyes rimmed red with warning. "You lost the right to call her yours moons ago dip shit!"
"As if!" Koga spat as he crossed his arms over his chest. "You only won because Kagome was worried about me."
"Is that a challenge?" Inuyasha growled as he rolled up his sleeves.
"Hell yeah it is!" Koga said as he prepared to fight.
"Why are you here?" Sesshomaru sighed impatiently as he stepped between them. He was growing tired of having to break up their petty fights.
"We're Kagome's security for the night." Hakkaku said as Koga and Ginta puffed their chests with pride.
"Oh, hell no!" Inuyasha yelled as he sidestepped his brother. "Anyone but you three!"
"What's your problem dog-shit?" Koga growled as he got in Inuyasha's face. "Afraid Kagome will leave you for me?"
"Feh! You wish!" Inuyasha huffed with a confident smirk. "Kagome'd never mate with a wimp like you."
"I'll show you who's weak!" Koga growled as he readied to punch Inuyasha in the face.
"Sir?" Royakan interrupted them from their fight once more. "A black Lexus was spotted approaching the gate. Mattaki's guards attempted to question the driver but they didn't stay long enough to chat."
"It was most likely Naraku." Sesshomaru said temporarily sobering the hot tempered dogs. "It's doubtful he'll attack tonight but just in case Inuyasha you will be staying as well."
"Already planned on it." Inuyasha agreed just as Grandpa Bob stepped out of the house.
"Inuyasha? Can you come here for a moment? I wish to speak with you." Grandpa Bob called sternly.
"Oh uh, sure?" Inuyasha inwardly cringed.
"It was nice knowing you dog breath." Koga taunted making Ginta and Hakkaku chuckle.
"Shut up." Inuyasha spat as Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes at the wolf demons. He gulped when he saw the disapproving stare from the old man.
"From what I understand this Naraku fellow has a past with you?" Grandpa Bob began to say.
"Unfortunately." Inuyasha nodded reluctantly. "Before I met your granddaughter, I had a very serious relationship with his now mate."
"I see." Grandpa Bob frowned. "Does Kagome know about this?"
"She does." Inuyasha nodded. "It's probably part of the reason why she is crying."
"Hm," Grandpa Bob hummed thoughtfully. "I need you to be honest with me boy. How serious are you about being with my granddaughter?"
"Very Serious." Inuyasha said as he clenched his fists nervously. "I promise to protect her with my life."
"Good. That's what I was hoping you'd say." Grandpa Bob relaxed as he handed Inuyasha a key to their house. "Do not make me regret giving you this."
"Y-yes Sir!" Inuyasha blushed.
Inuyasha's heart was pounding in his chest. He was honored Grandpa Bob trusted him enough to keep their family safe.
"That key is the only way past the ward. Don't lose it because it will take me three days to procure another one." Grandpa Bob said. "Now go upstairs and comfort my granddaughter. She's been asking for you."
"Hm." Inuyasha nodded as he rushed past the old man towards Kagome's room.
"Hey, old man! Got another one of those keys?" Koga yelled, making Grandpa Bob's back stiffen.
"No." Grandpa Bob clipped before closing the front door firmly.
"Damn it!" Koga growled as he tossed his headband onto the ground.
"This mission is vital for the safety of the Reservation and the Higurashi clan. Are your personal problems with my brother and the elder going to be an issue for you to complete your task?" Sesshomaru asked seriously.
"No, Sir. Kagome will be safe." Koga reluctantly submitted.
"Good." Sesshomaru said as he turned towards his car. "This one suggests you get to it then."
"Yes, Sir." Koga, Ginta and Hakkaku sighed as they leapt up to the roof.
"That piece of shit better not be in her room." Koga growled as he leapt over to the tree just outside Kagome's window. He growled when he saw that Inuyasha was sitting on Kagome's bed rocking her gently back and forth. "Hey! Let me in!"
"Buzz off!" Inuyasha yelled as he got off of Kagome's bed. Before he pulled down the blinds Inuyasha stuck out his tongue and flicked him off.
"Why that son of a..." Koga growled before reaching for the window. He yelped in pain when the ward shocked him.
"Give it a rest Koga." Ginta sighed as he and Hakkaku watched from the roof above. "The only way in is through the front door"
"Yeah, and Inuyasha and the old man don't like you. There's no way you're getting inside." Hakkaku agreed.
"But he's in her room! Who knows what impure things he's doing to her!" Koga exclaimed as he sucked on his burnt finger.
"Kagome's not the kind of girl to sleep around. She's only got a couple weeks left before her Moon Rainbow celebration. I doubt she'd ruin that now." Ginta pointed out.
"You're right." Koga sighed as he tried to ignore his inner beast's needs. "I'll just have to fight dog-boy another time."
"There's the spirit!" Hakkaku chuckled. "Now, come on! Kagome's depending on us to protect the fort!"
"Feh! Ain't no way some wimpy vampire's gunna get past me!" Koga huffed as he joined his pack brother's on the roof.
Little did Koga know, a dark figure clung to the shadows and overheard everything he'd said. The only indication that something had been standing there the following morning was the shoe imprints left in the dirt.
