The sight of the police in front of Stephanie made her nervous and when they said they were there for her and it was about an assault she knew exactly what it was about and she was in trouble. "I suppose you should come in."

Trying not to show her fear she turned to her daughters. "Why don't you three go and watch some television in the den with your Dad a minute whilst I get this handled."

Paul frowned; he couldn't leave her to handle this on her own. "Steph, let me help you."

"You can't, I have to do this myself, there is nothing to get me out of this so just take the girls please." She waited for the girls to leave, albeit not very compliantly before she turned back to the Policemen at the door. "I guess you should come in."

Showing the Policemen to the lounge she took a seat opposite them knowing exactly what was coming and knowing she had nothing to save her, all she could hope was that it could be kept out of the papers. "So what are the details exactly?"

He had tried to placate the girls and let them know it would all be okay, even if he didn't entirely believe it. Thankfully he had found something on the television that had caught their attention so he sat on the couch and to attend to some emails.

The first email that he had to deal with needed some research as he was sure it had been covered previously so he sat back and stared scrolling through his phone looking for the information so he didn't have to go through it all again. It was whilst he was scrolling that an email caught his eye and he realised he potentially had the proof to get his wife out of trouble so he got up to show it to the Police.

"There has been an accusation that you punched somebody without provocation when they came to your door selling make-up." Studying the woman for any physical clues she would give along with her words was an interesting experience for the young officer because he had never truly sat across from someone who genuinely looked confused and wasn't just playing it up for them.

"Selling make-up? Huh? I don't understand, we don't even get door-to-door salesman here because we live in a gated community and all, well it is meant to be all, visitors are stopped unless they have the access code."

"So you are denying that you punched somebody this morning?"

"Well . . ." She couldn't exactly lie and say she hadn't because she had but that information was total fantasy.

"Well what? Did you punch somebody or not?" Interested in the whole story and getting to the bottom of it all they decided to push further. "What relationship do you have with the complainant?"

All but bursting in to the room Paul was eager to get there before his wife got in trouble. "I have something you need to see."

Not welcoming the interruption the Policeman fixed his gaze on the other man. "And I am sure you can wait to show your . . . wife/girlfriend/partner/lady friend/friend until we are done here so if you don't mind."

"Oh no, this isn't Stephanie that I need to see this, it is you." Walking over to them he unlocked his phone again and held it out to them. "This is an emailed copy from my attorney, I don't have the paper copy at hand but you have systems to look this shit up."

Taking the offered phone he zoomed in on the picture on the screen and examined it closely making sure to check the header for the date it was sent noticing that it was well over a month old. "Can you explain why you have a restraining order against the complainant Mrs Levesque?"

"I . . . do? I have never met her before in my life."

The story was getting murkier and more confusing by the second for the Police. "So you are telling me this restraining order is fake?"

Before Stephanie could answer and make things worse for herself he told them the truth. "My wife was in Brazil on business when the restraining order was taken out. It was deemed that my children were at risk and as I am currently not living at home and this is where the children live it was decided by my attorney to put my wife's name on the documents to protect her as well."

"May I ask what happened that it was decided that a restraining order was necessary?"

"Umm. . ." Taking a reluctant seat on the arm of the empty chair he almost wanted to ask for his wife to leave so that she didn't hear all of the details on it as he really didn't know how it would affect their new relationship. "So my wife was in Brazil as part of like a learning experience so I was here with the girls and Kacey turned up. I told her to fuck off, that I wasn't interested in generally just to stop being a nuisance or I would call the cops and she decided not to listen and followed me so as I am friendly with the head of security where we work I asked to borrow any of their guys that were free and wouldn't mind just being around to protect the girls as I had plans with the girls that didn't involve staying home afraid and in the end I had to get a restraining order against her but I wanted to make sure it was for this house to protect my wife and my daughters in case she pulled something stupid."

"Like today you mean?"

With a heavy sigh he nodded, this wasn't exactly what he thought would happen or why he got the restraining order in the first place but he was so glad he did.

"This is all well and good but what does that actually mean for me?"

Paul shrugged, he wanted the news to let his wife off with a warning at worst but right now it was all in the hands of the Police and whatever was going on in their head right now.

After engaging in a brief whispered conversation both men stood up. "I think this is the point where we need to go back to the station and do some more work as this information is new to us and we have to determine how true it is. Please don't leave the state and we will be in touch."

Leave the state? She would be lucky if she wanted to leave the house today never mind go further than that. "Okay. Thank you for your time I guess."

Paul got up and showed them both out as it was pretty clear his wife was pretty shell shocked right now. Once he had shut the door behind them he returned to the lounge where his wife was still sat where he had left her. "Are you okay?"

"Good question, I don't know Paul. First I find out that she has tried pressing charges on me for assault and then I find out that when I was in Brazil she was following you around and you had to get the security guys involved and get a restraining order out on her. Why the hell didn't you tell me any of this? What if she had pulled something and I actually needed to know about the restraining order?"

Shrugging his shoulders he hadn't thought that far ahead, all he had thought of was a desperate need to protect his family and then there was the fact that they weren't exactly on talking terms at that time. "Would you be upset with me if I said that I just wanted to protect you?"

"Protect me? Paul I am not a child that needs protecting, I could handle it."

Shrugging his shoulders it was hard to explain it to her because he knew that it could very easily be taken the wrong way because he also knew their relationship was paper thin, hell some moments he felt like it was as stable as wet paper. "I don't know what to say to you Steph. At that time our relationship was so far from being friendly and I didn't want to worry you unnecessarily that I didn't know how it would be possible to tell you."

"Oh." What he said made sense because she wasn't exactly in the place right then to listen to him and take on board what he said without twisting it in to something negative because it would be all too real to know his affair partner had been right there at her home.

"What shall we do with the girls now? Shall we go out as planned or just stay in?"

She wasn't even sure if she was able to leave the house, not just because of the cops but because of the woman from earlier. "You can if you want; I think I would prefer to stay here now."

Moving closer to her he put his hands on her face gently and made her look at him. "You need to come out with us."

"I really don't. Paul I don't think that I can do it, I don't think that I can leave the house. I don't think that I should leave the house. What if we see her? What if the cops decide that I do need to be charged? The last thing I want, or the WWE needs, is for me to be arrested in public. Can you imagine the publicity?"

He wished that she could see what he saw but he didn't want to push his point of view on her but he was going to try one more time. "If we see her I will personally punch her in the face. You won't be arrested because they're not going to take it anywhere because Jerry handled all of the paperwork and I know that he will have done it legally so that there are no loopholes so you will be safe after you protected your family."

She knew what her husband was doing and it was doing as it left her no more loopholes to get out of. "Ugh, you are the worst."

"Is that a compliment because I am definitely taking it as one. Is that a yes though? Will you come out with us for the day?"

The way that he was so caring just made her feel things that she hadn't felt in a really long time. "I love you."

It had been a long time since he had heard her say those words so it took so much for him not to ask her to repeat herself but he didn't, he just stole a quick kiss. "I love you too beautiful."

She appreciated him not asking her again if she was going to go out with them but he needed to leave so she reluctantly pulled away from him and called for the girls.

His arms felt empty without her so suddenly but as the girls came barrelling in to the room excited about leaving he had to quickly put on a happy face and go with it. "Are you ready to go?"

"Duh. We were ready to leave hours ago but somebody came to the door."

Sniggering at the exaggeration he pulled his youngest closer and tickled her. "Hours huh? That's a new one on me. Go and grab your coats and let's go then before you complain about being old and grey."

"What about you and Mommy? Are you getting your coats too?"

"Jeez Louise. I'll get my coat now thank you." He could absolutely see Stephanie in their daughter and it was terrifying.

"My name's not Louise." Calling out to her Dad as she left the room she hadn't dare say that to his face so she didn't get grounded.

Taking a quick glance at his wife he noticed the look on her face and sighed, it was clear how much she wanted to come out with them but felt like she shouldn't, if only he could convince her otherwise.

Paul needed to get his coat but all of a sudden Aurora appeared in the doorway. "I got your coats."

As his eldest approached him with her coat on and holding his and Stephanie's in his hands he pulled her closer and pressed a kiss to the top of her head. "Thank you and I love you."

Squeezing her Dad she handed him his coat. "Love you too Daddy."

As her daughter held her coat out to her Stephanie felt like she had no other option but to agree to go out with her family. "So are your sisters ready yet?"

After spending most of the day out with her family as they started winding down ready to go home her phone began to ring. She took a quick look at the screen but didn't recognise the number so reluctantly answered it. "Hello?"

"Is that Stephanie Levesque?"

"Yes? Who are you?"

"This is Detective Mendoza from earlier. I am sorry that it has taken me so long to get back to you but I had to just do some research to make sure that the restraining order did not prevent you from being in the wrong for assaulting her."

"And?" Stephanie wasn't in the mood to wait as he blithered on.

"And after all of my research it was determined that even if we charged you with assault that they wouldn't go through with the charges because of the restraining order as it is pretty much two wrong cancelling each other out. Although I have said you won't be charged for the assault, there are some charges coming out of this situation, we will be charging the other party for breaking the restraining order. I hope this is all to your satisfaction."

"I . . . uh . . . umm, yeah okay thanks. So I'm in the clear and she will leave my family alone now?"

"You are in the clear and she will leave your family alone. Good luck Mrs Levesque and if there is anything that I can help you with then please let me know."

"Thank you." Taking a deep breath she ended the call and put her phone away before she returned to her family to see the youngest two arguing. "What are you two arguing over?"

"I said I wanted pasta for dinner and Vaughn said she wants a burger." Murphy pouted hoping that it would get her what she wanted for dinner.

The only way to avoid an argument or gloating was to pick something different for dinner so shaking her head as the arguing continued she put her hand up. "Hold up you two. Who said you had a choice in what was for dinner? I will serve whatever I choose for dinner and you will eat it without any more arguments unless you would like to go to bed early."

Aurora couldn't help the words that tumbled out of her mouth. "Oh thank God. I don't want to be in the middle of the two of them fighting."

He knew he shouldn't but Paul laughed which earned him a sharp dig to the ribs from his wife so he stifled the next laugh to keep from getting in to even more trouble. "Enough. We have had a good day together so let's leave it there as I have work tomorrow and I don't want to remember this for a night full of arguments thank you."

They didn't see their Dad as much as they would like so all three girls quickly stopped talking and arguing so that they could spend the time with him.

When they got home Stephanie sorted out dinner so that Paul could have some quality time with the girls and hopefully he would distract them from being in the kitchen every two seconds to see what was going to be for dinner.

After dinner they put the girls to bed leaving the two adults alone. "As much as I would like to stay here with you for a while I sadly have to pack for the shows this week. I haven't been home all weekend really so haven't even made a start on it."

She didn't want to come across as needy but she really wished that he could stay for a while. "What time is your flight in the morning?"

"Flight is about seven so I have to be up just after five." He wasn't sure why she was asking but he didn't need to be a rocket scientist to know that she wasn't happy and truthfully he wasn't either but it was what it was.

"You really should go then if you want to get any sleep tonight." Resisting the urge to hug him tightly she followed him silently towards the door watching him put his coat on. "Will you call the girls tomorrow night? I'm not going to Raw but at least I can field any questions with a yes or no answer."

Once he had his coat on he slipped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer to him and wrapped his arms around her waist. "Of course I will call the girls tomorrow and then once I am safely back in my hotel room I will call my main girl, if she'll have it."

"Your main girl huh? I think she will be happy to take a phone call from you at any time of the day or night."

Pressing a kiss to the tip of her nose he held her a little closer. "I will not call you in the middle of the night but I will definitely call you before bed."

Snuggling close to him she sighed softly thinking about him dealing with her Dad all day. "Be careful with my Dad okay? I don't trust him not to start something after yesterday."

"I'll be okay; I can handle your Dad. I'm just glad that you won't be around because after you walked out on him on Saturday he wouldn't be in the most pleasant mood with you."

Grumbling she knew he spoke the truth and honestly she was surprised he hadn't turned up on the doorstep. "I think I'd like to not think about that right now please as you need to go and actually pack. Be careful and good luck tomorrow."

"Thank you." Pecking her lips lightly it was only meant to be a quick kiss but somehow the kiss got deepened and they made out at the front door before he eventually left for the evening.

The next morning it was almost quarter to seven when Paul turned up at the corporate jet for their flight. He tried to avoid Vince as much as possible but the old man stayed back from boarding and let everybody enter before him. They hadn't spoken to each other before Paul passed him on his way on to the jet, nodding his head politely he said a simple 'good morning' and tried to move on with his day but he was stopped in his tracks by Vince's voice. "I want a word with you later." Ah yes, the words guaranteed to make any Monday morning miserable.
