Sorry for the wait, I've been settling back at home. I'll be home until mid January, so hopefully updates can be regular again, now that school is over for the semester :)
This chapter was suggested by lunarwriter! I hope you like it :)
Entry 52
Well, that was an insanely close call. I really need to keep better tabs on where I leave this book (and I also need to remember that Gobber likes to talk…)
So, what happened, asks the nonexistent person reading this? I'll tell you!
(...I really think this whole writing thing is starting to get to my head…)
Anyway, I was in the forge, just doing my tasks for the day (and trying to sneak some work on my bola launcher), and I got called to the front. Gobber wanted me to take orders, because he needed to finish up work on an important weapon or something. So, we switched places for a few hours.
(This is the part where I mention that fewer people than usual came for some… unknown reason. Surely it couldn't be because I was the one at the front. Yep, definitely not that.) But anyway, Gobber comes back to the front after a while, holding… my book. I asked him what he had (because you have to try and play it cool), and he said "Funny you ask. I thought you would know, considering your name is on it."
I just said "oh" in response.
"Interesting little thing. Seems to be blank. Why'd you bring it?"
"Uh, just in case any new ideas pop up, I guess…" I answered, even though on the inside I was high fiving myself for the blank pages idea. I knew Vikings were too impatient…
"Well, keep an eye on your things. Don't need any property winding up inside a weapon." He laughed, handing me the book back. "I'll let your father know to keep any eye out as well. Just in case you lost anything else."
"Ah, you don't need to do that," I said, maybe too quickly.
Gobber looked at me for a moment before shrugging. "Whatever then. Just be more responsible in the future."
"I will." I said, hoping to put an end to the conversation.
Luckily, I did, and this book is now safely at home once again.
I should try and keep it in my vest from now on. As impatient as Vikings are, they still are major snoops. Surely someone is bound to flip through the whole thing rather than just the first eight pages.
That raises the question, though… what does my dad look through when I'm not around? I don't think I want to know, to be honest.
And then, an even bigger question:
WHY IN MIDGARD DID I WRITE MY NAME ON THIS THING?
I swear, sometimes I can be an absolute muttonhead...
Until next time…
-H
I hope that was a nice bit of levity ;). Next time... it all goes to Helheim...
