Now here is the second part of the Cinnabar Island Pokémon Contest. Now for Amelia's Pokémon duo, I sort of had this idea thanks to Crown Tundra. If you played Crown Tundra in Sword and Shield, you might understand what I'm trying to pull off.

Also, a big surprise is in store for Serena in this chapter. Is it good or bad? Read the chapter and find out. Please note I do not own Pokémon.

Contest Hall-Lobby

The contest battles were set to begin soon. Serena was kind of thankful to know that her battle would be last so that she could have more time to think about how she could have Delphox and Kangaskhan approach their opponents. Serena had no idea what Pokémon Amelia planned to use in this portion of the contest. She may be considering using new Pokémon she's never seen before.

Trying to ease her worries, Serena made her way to a video phone to call home. Her moms were probably watching this contest and were rooting for her. Hell, they were watching. Maybe a talk with her mothers might ease her worries. Pikachu and Sylveon were still by Serena's side as he sat in front of the phone.

She dialed the numbers and in a matter of seconds, her mother Grace appears on the screen.

"Serena, is that you?" Grace asked.

"Hey mom," Serena replied.

Grace smiled on the other end to see her daughter's face. Despite hiding the worries of her possibly late father, Grace was proud of Serena in how far she came in the contest circuit.

"Serena, it's so good to see you. We're watching your contest right now, and it appears you've made it to the next round," Grace said.

"I sure did," Serena chirped, "I take it you saw my Eevee evolve didn't you?"

"That had to have been a treat watching a Pokémon evolve during a contest, congratulations," Grace replied.

Sylveon walked by Serena and rubbed her leg. Serena looked at the Interwining Pokémon and thought it would be a great idea to present her to her mom. Serena gestured Sylveon to get onto her lap and look at the screen.

"Here she is, I'm so proud of her evolving," Serena said.

"Sylveon," Sylveon chirped.

"Well I'm glad you called, because me and your mom have a surprise for you," Grace said.

"A surprise," Serena replied.

What could the surprise be? Could it be a new outfit or some new cute shoes? She was getting ahead of herself, but what could it be.

"We have some visitors here who you may be familiar with," Grace responded, "Come on over everyone. Take a look who's on the phone."

Serena's other mother Jade was coming to the screen, but then Serena gasped to see three other people coming and her face lit up when she saw who they were. Leading the way was Shauna along with Trevor and Tierno. Shauna's face lit up when she saw Serena on the other end. Everyone made way for the three as Shauna's face was in the center with Tierno and Trevor to the side.

"Serena! I can't believe it's you!" Shauna squealed.

"Shauna! I haven't seen you since Celadon City!" Serena exclaimed.

Serena couldn't believe that her rival Shauna was at her house right now watching her Pokémon Contest with Tierno and Trevor alongside with her.

"They were coming from Cinnabar Island on their way to the next gym and contest which is going to be in Viridian City," Jade said.

"Yeah, we found out that in order to get to Viridian City, we have to pass through Pallet Town and since you and Ash live here, we figured why not come for a visit," Trevor explained.

"Well I'm so glad to see you all. What have you been doing in Pallet Town?" Serena asked.

"Well of course before finding where you guys live, we had to see Professor Oak. We saw some of your Pokémon and I got to say, they're pretty cool. I wonder if any of them are good dancers," Tierno jokingly said.

"Oh Tierno, I highly doubt that" Serena chuckled, "So how have you guys been?"

"Well me and Tierno beat Blaine for our sixth badge and rumor has it the Viridian Gym could be opening again soon. Me and Tierno hope to challenge the leader for our Earth Badge," Trevor explained.

"I see, and I take it you haven't visited the Saffron Gym since your first visit?" Serena questioned.

"No, we're still wondering if our Pokémon are ready. We decided we'll go to that gym last," Tierno stated.

"So how's Ash doing?" Shauna asked.

"Well he has six badges like Tierno, and Trevor and he actually beat Sabrina in a full six on six battle," Serena triumphally said as she wanted to leave out the fight for their freedom part.

"Whoa! You're kidding me," Tierno said in shock.

"A full six on six," Trevor replied.

"Yeah," Serena replied.

"Did he challenge Blaine in the volcano yet?" Shauna asked.

"Volcano?" Serena questioned.

Trevor and Tierno looked at Shauna with a questionable look. Did Shauna just tell Serena that Blaine's gym was in the volcano on the island.

"You just gave away the location to Blaine's gym," Trevor whispered.

"Oopsie," Shauna muttered.

Serena's eyes widened when she heard that. It was like she saw a murder scene. She looked out the window and saw the volcano that stood tall on the island. Ash was going to be facing Blaine in there.

"That's where Blaine's gym is," Serena said in a low volume.

"So I take it Ash hasn't challenged Blaine yet," Shauna said.

"No he hasn't, because he hasn't proven anything to be a worthy opponent," Serena sighed, "And thanks for giving away the location of his gym. Now you got me scared."

"I won't tell Ash…yet, if you guys can ask me one question," said Serena, "How did you two prove yourselves to be a good challenger for Blaine?"

"Well for me, I was challenging some of the locals to a battle and my Pokémon danced all over their opponents. Then someone mentioned my radical battle and dancing skills and I was approved to challenge Blaine in which I won my sixth badge," Tierno explained.

"I was sitting with my Pokémon studying all the potential variables on my Pokedex on how I can counter other Pokémon while looking at pictures of them to spot weaknesses. Then someone noticed how I've been looking at every detail of Pokémon possible and they told me that the knowledge I've gained allowed me to face Blaine and I got my badge too," Trevor explained.

"Yeah, Ash is having trouble trying to prove himself. I mean I know he's a great trainer, but how can Cinnabar Island know he's a great trainer?" Serena questioned to herself.

"Hopefully, he can prove that. But I thought I let you know, just in case he were to find the gym, Blaine wouldn't accept a battle with him because he didn't prove himself yet," Trevor explained.

Serena sighed and hoped that Ash would find a way to earn his battle with Blaine. That was one of his two battles on Cinnabar Island along with Ivysaur's behavior.

While it was nice to see how Trevor and Tierno was doing, she has yet to know about her great friend Shauna. She hasn't talked about contests yet.

"So Shauna, how are you doing so far with ribbons?" Serena asked.

"Me," Shauna replied as she pulled something out of her pocket and revealed four ribbons, "I got four ribbons."

"That's amazing, same here! I'm going for my fifth ribbon," Serena happily said until she realized something, "Wait a minute, how come you didn't stay for the contest?"

"Isn't it obvious, the Viridian Gym could be opening soon, and it's barely ever open. If we miss out, the gym could close again for a long time like before. And the fact there would be a Pokémon Contest taking place there, maybe it was best to just skip the Cinnabar Contest," Shauna explained.

"I guess it works out for the better since now we don't have to face off against each other for our final ribbon," Serena said.

"I know, that's kind of a relief. I hope to win that contest for my last ribbon and get in," Shauna said as she drew her face closer, "Please Serena, win for me! I don't want you coming to Viridian City to face me for ribbon number five."

"Don't worry, I'll make sure to win for you! Then you can win the Viridian Contest and we can meet in the Grand Festival like we promised!" Serena declared.

"Yay! That's what I want to hear," Shauna happily said, "Well I let you go so you can focus on winning."

"Thanks Shauna, it was nice talking to you," Serena said.

"It was nice talking to you too!" Tierno cheered, "Now bust some moves and beat your competition!"

The three left the screen and went back to the TV making room for her moms to be on screen again. The two were chuckling at how well things were going between them.

"You got some great friends Serena," Jade said, "I'm sure they would love to come to our house to watch you get in the Grand Festival."

"You bet," Serena happily said.

"Well we'll let you go. Now remember, go for broke," Grace nodded, "We love you Serena."

"I love you guys too," Serena responded as the screen went black.

Serena turned around and let out a deep sigh. It was a great surprise to see Shauna, Tierno, and Trevor again, but she needed to keep her focus on the contest. She looked at Pikachu and Sylveon and smiled at them.

"You two did a great job, now we're going to leave this to Delphox and Kangaskhan," Serena told the two Pokémon.

"Pikachu," Pikachu replied.

"Syl," Sylveon replied.

Contest Hall-Main Stage

Ash was back in the stands while he was waiting on Calem and Leaf as they went to get some snacks. The two come back with some soda and some hot dogs. They gave Ash his drink and hot dog.

"Thanks," Ash replied.

"It was no problem, I understand you're just waiting for your girlfriend to take the stage," Calem said.

Ash didn't notice, but Leaf was putting her arm behind Ash's holding something that caught Munchlax's eye. The Big Eater Pokémon's eyes glittered as he saw the treat Leaf had for him.

"Yeah, I just didn't know how long you would be gone for and I didn't want to miss Serena's shot on stage because I was stuck in line at the concession stand," Ash said.

"Her battle will come last," Calem told Ash.

"I know, but still…" Ash said as he stopped.

He was hearing a munching sound right by him. Ash turned around and shrieked when he saw Munchlax gobbling down some cotton candy. He facepalmed his forehead wondering where that came from.

"A little Pidgey told me Munchlax is addicted to cotton candy," Leaf said in a snide tone.

Ash turned around to see Leaf with a mischievous smile on her face. Of course, she was the one who provided Munchlax the goods.

"Yeah, Munchlax has a thing for cotton candy," Ash sighed as he gave an embarrassing smile, "He discovered it at the Fuchsia City Pokémon Contest."

Munchlax finished gobbling down his cotton candy. He looked at his hands and had tears coming from his face. He didn't have any cotton candy left.

"Looks like Munchlax has a great taste for that bottomless pit of a stomach," Leaf said.

"Actually Leaf, this is a surprise. This particular Munchlax isn't a huge glutton like a normal Munchlax. He was raised to not eat a reasonable amount of food, and not like three Thanksgiving dinners a day," Ash explained, "But when it comes to cotton candy, he'll do anything to get himself more."

Munchlax was crying and Ash looked on and just rolled his eyes. He knew that he was just upset that he ate all of his cotton candy.

Contest Hall-Waiting Area

Serena sits down on a bench watching the television screen. Amelia's battle would come first. She wasn't sure what Pokémon she was going to use, but it would be a good idea to see who she would go up against.

She looked at her special red Pokeball and Safari Ball and wondered how her two Pokémon would fare. Serena was not going to turn back as she wanted to have these Pokémon come together and take the stage. Despite knowing Amelia has paid that breeder to train her Pokémon, she was worried what would in store for her if she faced the rich brat.

"I'm kind of nervous of what Amelia is going to be using in the battles, but I will not lose faith in Delphox and Kangaskhan. We worked hard together yesterday and we're going to make it pay off. We will get that last ribbon," Serena said to herself in her head.

Then Serena could see Amelia on the screen as she was coming in on the left while a boy with black hair wearing a green tuxedo with black shoes took the other side of the stage.

Contest Hall-Main Stage

"Alright everyone, it's time for contest battles. Each trainer will bring out two Pokémon and they will work together to both take down their opponents Pokémon and dazzle the audience. Let's bring out our first competitors, Amelia and Larry!" Lillian announced.

While Larry stood on the right side, Amelia was standing on the left side of the stage holding two different types of Pokeballs. In her right hand she had a pink Pokeball that had cream markings on the side which happens to be a Heal Ball, and in her left hand was a black Pokeball with a gold center with a red line on top which happens to be a Luxury Ball.

"Alright, start the clock and let's begin!" Lillian announced as the time started counting down.

"Weezing, Marowak, go!" Larry called out sending out a Weezing and a Marowak.

"Now behold, my majestic duo!" Amelia announced to the crowd as she tossed her Heal Ball out first followed by the Luxury Ball.

Both Pokeballs were flying in the air with the Heal Ball opening first revealing a Rapidash, and then the Luxury Ball opens up revealing a Sandslash. Rapidash landed on all four while Sandslash followed up hopping on Rapidash's back. Rapidash would raise her upper body in the air with Sandslash holding on with one hand raising the other arm as if he were a majestic champion horse racer.

Despite being a Rapidash and a Sandslash, they looked incredibly different.

The Rapidash instead of having a cream color and flames as manes, had a full white color with smooth magical purple and blue manes shooting out like a rainbow and had a black unicorn horn. The Sandslash on the other hand instead of looking like a light brown hedgehog with brown spikes, appeared to look to be a sky-blue hedgehog with icicles on his back.

Serena was watching in the waiting area with her mouth hung down. She never seen those Pokémon before. She was going to go up against them!

"I'm not sure if that's a Rapidash and a Sandslash?" Ash questioned himself looking at the two Pokémon, "I mean they resemble them, but I'm not sure if they are them."

"Believe me Ash, that is a Rapidash and a Sandslash," Rotom Dex confirmed.

"What!" Ash exclaimed.

"Really?" Leaf asked.

"Yes, but they have different forms. That's a Galarian Rapidash, instead of being a fire-type Pokémon, a Galarian Rapidash is a psychic and fairy type Pokémon. As for Sandslash, it's actually and Alolan Sandslash, and instead of being a ground-type Pokémon, an Alolan Sandslash is an ice and steel type Pokémon," Rotom Dex explained.

"Wow, but how can they be different like that?" Ash asked.

"Simple, the Alolan Sandslash can be found in the Alola Region while the Galarian Rapidash can be found in the Galar Region. Those environments can bring an effect on certain Pokémon which could actually alter not only their appearance, but their typing and abilities. We call them regional variant Pokémon," Rotom Dex explained.

Ash and Leaf were amazed with what he heard about regional variant Pokémon. So certain Pokémon could have a different effect considering what region they're found in. They wonder what other Pokémon could be effected like that.

Calem was amazed to see a Galarian Rapidash and Alolan Sandslash and was also amazed at how they made their entrance onto the stage. This had to be well choreographed…by Chad. One question would remain, what can these regional variant Pokémon do and how can they manage working together. If that entrance proved anything, it's that these two may be in complete sync.

"Just amazing, Amelia has two regional variant Pokémon taking the stage which is a special treat for all of us. Now one question, how will they dazzle the audience," Lillian announced.

Amelia smiled as she looked at her Pokémon. Rapidash and Sandslash were in perfect sync and now they were going to witness the beauty of these two Pokémon. She knew that if Serena were watching, she would be shaking in her flats right about now. She still wonders how that poor girl could have two flats on her feet.

"Doesn't matter if those are regional variant, you can't beat us!" Larry declared, "Weezing use Smokescreen and Marowak come through with Bone Club!"

Weezing unleashed a black smoke onto the stage as Marowak prepared to rush at the two Pokémon. Amelia just groaned and flipped her hair. This guy wasn't worth her time.

"You call that a combination. This is a combination. Sandslash use Mist, and then Rapidash use Agility," Amelia commanded.

Sandslash summoned a mist cloud that surround both of the Pokémon. Then Rapidash raised her hooves as Sandslash hung on and began to raise her speed with Agility. Marowak was charging out of the smoke as if he were a ninja. Amelia wasn't impressed as she had something up her sleeve.

"Rapidash, Fairy Wind and keep up with the flow and Sandslash, use an Icicle Spear as if it were your mighty sword," Amelia told her Pokémon.

Rapidash unleashed a Fairy Wind that was getting in the way of Marowak and Weezing. Despite not being amazingly effective on Weezing, it truly was irritating to the Poison Gas Pokémon.

Sandslash showed off an Icicle Spear in his hand and was riding Rapidash like he were some valiant knight. The Mouse Pokémon sliced through Marowak clearly outdueling his Bone Club thanks to Rapidash's Agility, and then proceeded to slash Weezing with that same attack.

Marowak collapsed to his knees and Weezing fell to the ground knocked out. The judges gave Larry red Xs indicating Weezing cannot continue and proceed to lose a whole lot of points.

"Amazing work, Sandslash is using Icicle Spear as a sword and Rapidash as a trustworthy steed, and proceeds to take down Weezing with one strike and bring Marowak to his knees. This just cost a lot of points for Larry as his Weezing is unable to battle," Lillian announced to the audience.

The entire crowd roared with applause with that amazing combination. Rapidash and Sandslash got it down perfectly. With Marowak now on his knees, Larry wanted to try anything.

"Hurry and use Bonemerang on Sandslash!" Larry retorted in panic.

"Confusion on the bone," Amelia told Rapidash.

Marowak threw his bone at Sandslash in hopes of throwing him off, but Rapidash had other ideas as she was using Confusion to stop the bone in place.

"Now send the bone back, and Sandslash, add a little Powder Snow in for some style points," Amelia told her Pokémon as she flipped her hair.

Sandslash unleashed a Powder Snow towards the bone, and once it caught up, Rapidash proceeded to send the bone right back at Marowak. The Bone Keeper Pokémon's eyes widened as his own bone was coming back. Marowak was hit on the head with his own bone and the Powder Snow also added further damage to Marowak, not to mention Powder Snow was a super effective attack since Marowak was a ground type.

Marowak went out in a limb and the judges gave out another set of red Xs to Larry. Rapidash and Sandslash didn't just beat Weezing and Marowak, they breezed through them.

"Now Marowak cannot continue. That snowy bone knocked out Marowak with a wintery effect. This contest battle wasn't even close, Amelia advances!" Lillian announced as the screen showed pictures of Amelia, Sandslash, and Rapidash with the word WINNER underneath, "Let's hear from our judges!"

"That was impressive how Sandslash was acting like a knight and Rapidash was acting as a steed and both were contributing to presenting a spectacular show," Mr. Contesta announced.

"Indeed, truly remarkable," Mr. Suziko announced.

"And both Pokémon were in perfect sync and showed how they were in extraordinary condition," Nurse Joy announced.

Serena was watching the battle on TV. She was blown away with Rapidash's and Sandslash's choreography and coordinating attacks. She only had Delphox and Kangaskhan work together for a day, those two Pokémon looked like they've been partners for years. Serena hates to admit it, but knowing that Amelia didn't train those Pokémon, she was kind of worried about facing her.

"Wow, that battle showed that not only are those Pokémon strong, but they can cooperate with each other and steal the show," Calem said as he looked over at Ash and Leaf, "I hate to say this, but I think Serena is going to have some serious competition."

"Well, it was all thanks to my hard work of getting these Pokémon to work together," Chad said smirking, "That has got to show Amelia that I've got plenty of good stuff for her."

Chad was impressed with his work, but the fact Amelia took credit for all of it seems wrong. Sure he may be getting paid to train her Pokémon, but it also feels like he isn't getting much recognition. Amelia hasn't even gave him a proper thank you. Has he sat there fearing he is being shunned in the shadow by his client and isn't making a name for himself.

Ash was sitting there worried about what Calem said. He was right, these two Pokémon were a perfect duo, and it was hard to imagine what Delphox and Kangaskhan were going to bring to the table. He was wondering what Serena was thinking right now.

With that, Ash stood up from his seat and looked over at the others and Munchlax. Right now he felt like Serena could be nervous and needed some help to get through this.

"I'm going to see Serena and check in on her," Ash told the others as he hung his head down and proceeded to a whiny tone, "Don't give Munchlax any cotton candy while I'm gone."

"Okay," Leaf replied with a mental snicker.

Ash left the seating area to find Serena. Leaf watched waiting to see when Ash was out of sight, and then she turned over to Munchlax giving a mischievous smile towards the Big Eater Pokémon.

"You want more cotton candy, don't you Munchlax," Leaf whispered in a bubbly tone.

"Munchlax," Munchlax chirped.

"Okay, I'll get some," Leaf said as she stood up from her seat, "Just promise you'll finish it before Ash gets back."

Contest Hall-Waiting Area

Serena was sitting there in shock and amazement. The fact that Amelia's Pokémon were not only able to take out both of Larry's Pokémon with ease, but also the fact that they were able to whip up style points with that combination of Rapidash acting like a steed and Sandslash acting like a night.

Serena knew this was that breeder's work, and not Amelia's and figures he should be getting some recognition. Still, it doesn't change the fact that her Pokémon feels like they could be blown out of the water.

"Now that's what you call art," a voice echoed.

Serena turned around to see Amelia proudly walking back into the waiting area. The other coordinators were feeling intimidated after seeing the work her Pokémon did to wipe the floor with Larry's Pokémon.

"All of you should forfeit as you don't stand a chance against me," Amelia rebutted.

While all of them feeling afraid, especially the unknown boy and girl as one of them will face her next, Serena stood up in front of her.

"You don't know that" Serena replied.

"Of course I do you blonde brat. Once the audience saw the majesty of Rapidash and Sandslash, everyone knew this contest was a lost cause. They should just cancel the rest of this contest and give me the ribbon," Amelia smirked.

"But you don't know if there is someone in here who could be better than you," Serena stated.

"What makes you think that's real?" Amelia questioned.

"Remember who beat you in Fuchsia City?" Serena questioned as she placed her hands on her hips.

"That was a fluke and poor management from the judges. I was supposed to win that contest and they screwed up," Amelia snarled.

"No, you're a sore loser. When you lost to me, you lost to someone who was better than you," Serena explained as she then had a comeback line, "Wait a minute, everyone here is better than you."

"No they're not, that boy I just beat can say something about that," Amelia smirked.

"Because they actually took the time to train and bond with their Pokémon like I did. That's how I got all four of my ribbons. You won all of your ribbons by paying someone to train them and execute their methods on stage taking as if they were yours, while me and Pokémon were a team and won those ribbons together. And the contests we've lost, we've lost them together. It's a way to show we aren't alone when we lose," Serena explained.

Amelia was amused by what Serena said. She keeps putting these things in her head saying that working with your Pokémon leads to success.

"And what good came out of your Pokémon that you're going to bring in?" Amelia questioned, "Did you have the money to see a specialist to see if your Pokémon are capable of bringing beauty at a level I did? Did your training match what Rapidash and Sandslash did?"

Serena then hung her head down. While she can't hold back that was a masterful performance by Rapidash and Sandslash and that she did nothing to contribute, she did feels some doubts with Delphox and Kangaskhan. There weren't many good combinations the two Pokémon could pull off except maybe outpower their opponents.

"Just as I figure. My money will help me reach the level of top coordinator and win me the ribbon cup," Amelia smirked as she walked away, "We'll continue this conversation when we meet on stage, oops I meant if we meet on stage."

As Amelia walked away, Serena was feeling worried. If she lost to Amelia, it would only prove her right and that everything she did was meaningless. She already confirmed in the registration that if she made it to contest battles that it would be Delphox and Kangaskhan. One thing was certain, this was going to be a tough battle.

2 minutes later

Serena didn't bother to watch the next contest as she needed to clear her mind for her upcoming battle. She would be facing a girl named Justine in her first match. The only question was what would happen if she pairs up against Amelia?

-Ash shows up and talks with her.

"Serena," a voice called out.

Serena turned her head to only see Ash standing there leaning his elbow against the door passage. Serena was wondering what Ash was doing here.

"Ash?" Serena questioned.

"I'd figure you might be nervous about your upcoming battle," Ash said as he walked over to Serena and sat down with her.

"Yeah, what Amelia's Pokémon did was phenomenal," Serena sighed.

"And why is that bothering you?" Ash asked.

"Because those Pokémon can make many different combinations that can wow the audience and the judges. Me, Delphox, and Kangaskhan could only come up with like one or two," Serena explained, "I mean I'm not going to go against having Delphox and Kangaskhan on stage since they've been registered, but I have doubts about the two Pokémon I'm using."

Ash was listening in. Serena was worried that the Pokémon she chose weren't good as the ones Amelia had felt like they've been partners for years.

"I mean I wanted Kangaskhan to be in this contest so she could get some experience and I had her paired up with Delphox because she has the most experience and she could learn from her. But how can I have these two truly be a magnificent duo?" Serena questioned herself.

"You shouldn't doubt yourself like that Serena," Ash said.

"But here's the thing, if I lose to Amelia then it would prove that she's right and everything I believed in was wasted," Serena stated.

Ash frowned at Serena's last comment. Amelia was making Serena think that she should've gotten herself a professional to train her Pokémon like she did.

"Is that what's bothering you, that Amelia seems superior to you?" Ash questioned.

"Sort of," Serena answered.

"Well wake up Serena, she isn't! We worked hard with our Pokémon and she is taking advantage of her wealth to pay off someone to do a coordinators work for her. We don't have that wealth, and judging by her, I'm glad we don't," Ash explained.

It was true, Serena was doing honest work as a coordinator. The fact that she didn't have that kind of money made her glad she took the honest way, and that the so-called shortcut was out of the question.

"Serena you created a connection with all of your Pokémon and more importantly you're trying to be fair with them. If you lose to Amelia today, that doesn't mean what she said is right, it means Chad is better than you and that would be his victory, not hers," Ash explained.

Ash was right, Serena should just believe in what she believes in. She has been fair with all of her Pokémon, maybe not Slowpoke because well…he doesn't seem to be doing anything except stand there. She didn't even know about his sudden Confusion attack on Siegfried.

Serena started to bring up a big smile and she wasn't going to doubt herself or her Pokémon anymore. She was going to fight for what she believe is right, and Amelia's Pokémon was just going to be treated as a major obstacle, not her undoing. Serena returned the gesture with a big hug.

"Thanks Ash, I was a fool to think like that," Serena said.

"I love you Serena, and I want you to succeed," Ash replied, "And do you know how I will love you more?"

"How?" Serena questioned.

"By winning your fifth ribbon and getting into the Grand Festival today!" Ash declared, "I'll share a big passionate kiss with you if you win today."

Serena was now feeling a new fire in her stomach. Maybe it had something to do with what Ash just said. His words helped her regain her determination, maybe it was because she loves him so much.

"Thanks Ash, I'm glad I had this talk with you," Serena said, "Now I'm going out there and winning that contest."

"That's the spirit," Ash said as he gave another hug and then broke off, "Well I better get back, last time I left Leaf alone she snuck in cotton candy for Munchlax. I'm hoping she didn't do it again."

Ash walked out of the room and started running down the hall. Serena looked at the door as she was thankful to have that talk with Ash.

Oh shit! Serena forgot to tell Ash about what Shauna said earlier about the Cinnabar Gym. That's okay, she'll tell him later.

Contest Hall-Main Stage

The third battle just ended, and a coordinator by the name of Noah just won and advanced to the next round. If Serena wins this match, he would be her next opponent. Ash returned only to see a sight that left him in shock.

Munchlax was happily eating more cotton candy.

"I said don't get Munchlax anymore cotton candy!" Ash whined.

"I know," Leaf chirped.

"Then how did he get that?" Ash questioned with his hands on his hips.

"While you were gone, I went back to the concession stand and brought more cotton candy for Munchlax," Leaf answered happily.

Ash hung his head down in disbelief. He couldn't leave Leaf and Calem alone with Munchlax for one minute without giving him more of that tasty fluffy treat.

"Alright everyone, it's time for our final battle of the first round. We have Serena going up against Justine!" Lillian announced.

Serena was staring at her opponent and back at her Pokeballs. Her talk with Ash helped her boost her confidence. She wonders how that could be, maybe it's just the fact that she loves him. Either way Serena would have faith in Delphox and Kangaskhan, and after all, they did come up with some combinations.

"Pokeballs ready, let's begin!" Lillian announced as the timer started counting down.

"Jolteon, Flareon, lets go!" Justine exclaimed releasing a Jolteon and Flareon.

Both of the Pokémon landed on all fours. While it was interesting for Serena to see two more evolved Eevees after hers evolved, Serena knew that she had to focus on the contest battle.

"Delphox, Kangaskhan, you're up!" Serena exclaimed as she threw her Pokeballs releasing Delphox and Kangaskhan.

Delphox swiftly landed on one foot and then on the other holding her stick while Kangaskhan landed on both feet onto the stage giving a roar. Some people in the crowd were a little bewildered to the fact of a Delphox and Kangaskhan taking the stage in a contest battle together as they were nothing like Rapidash and Sandslash. Serena put all that aside and focused on the battle.

"Flareon use Fire Spin and Jolteon add your Discharge to the attack," Justine called out.

Flareon opened his mouth and sent out a fiery vortex right at the two Pokémon while Jolteon used Discharge on the Fire Spin. The combination created an electric fire spin coming at the two Pokémon. Talk about a well created combination.

"Delphox use Light Screen to block that!" Serena called out.

Delphox brought out a Light Screen to block the attack, but the force of the attack along with the extra electricity allowed some sparks to bounce up and take effect on Delphox and Kangaskhan. This would cost Serena some points.

"Now come at them with a Flare Blitz and Pin Missile combo!" Justine commanded.

Now Flareon was charging at the two Pokémon with Flare Blitz while Jolteon unleashed a series of pins that kept up with Flareon. That was another well-developed combination, not to mention Flare Blitz. Serena couldn't keep up on defense forever as she needed to make her move.

"Delphox use Psychic on Kangaskhan and Kangaskhan follow that up with Headbutt," Serena told her Pokémon.

Delphox used Psychic to levitate Kangaskhan but controlled her powers so that the Parent Pokémon wouldn't take so much damage. People were looking confused on what Serena was doing as it actually took a little of her points.

Kangaskhan lowered his head and Delphox threw her forward. Kangaskhan hit Flareon dead on sending him flying back and crashing into Jolteon. However, Kangaskhan felt a massive burn on her head. Despite taking some points from Justine, it did not fond well that Serena did something that got her own Pokémon to take damage and it cost her some points with four minutes left.

"Whatever Serena's strategy is doesn't seem to be working as she loses more points by the second," Lillian announced.

"Come on Serena!" Ash called out.

Flareon and Jolteon got back up as they shook off the daze from that attack. Apparently that combination didn't sit well with the judges since it was a falter risk of having her own Pokémon take damage.

"We got to think of something," Serena said to herself.

Fire attacks were out of the question as Serena knew about Flareon's Flash Fire ability. An ability she knew too well from Shauna's Ninetales. What else could Delphox and Kangaskhan do?

"Alright lets go for another round, Flareon use Fire Spin and Jolteon use Discharge!" Justine called out.

Serena looked onward as they were going to use the same combination. She could have Delphox use Light Screen, but some fire sparks would bounce across effecting the two Pokémon. Serena didn't know what to do as these Pokémon didn't seem to carry a good combination and appeared to only be better solo.

Wait, solo. It may be a double performance battle, but it's not required that Pokémon have to always create combinations together. Maybe it's time to have them fight separate for the time being.

As the attack combination was coming closer, Serena made the call.

"Delphox use Light Screen!" Serena called out.

Delphox got her stick out as she created another barrier to shield the attack. Justine grinned as she retorted to the same tactic as before, but not before adding a little something.

"Kangaskhan, jump over Delphox and use Stomp!" Serena commanded.

The Parent Pokémon put her arms on top of Delphox and used her head as a lunge to catapult herself forward. Flareon and Jolteon were shocked as they stopped their attacks.

"Hurry and dodge!" Justine called out.

Flareon and Jolteon got out of the way as Kangaskhan landed on both feet on the ground missing the two Pokémon as they just evaded Kangaskhan. Then a surprise came that no one saw coming.

Kangaskhan began to shake the ground which caused both Flareon and Jolteon to stumble. Delphox was in shock as she too was wobbling on stage.

"Wow, it seems Kangaskhan just shook the stage knocking all of the Pokémon down!" Lillian announced as Justine lost some points while Serena lost a little more.

Serena didn't know what just happened, but Kangaskhan just shook the stage. She needed to take advantage of this.

"Hurry use Mega Kick on Flareon!" Serena retorted.

Kangaskhan still on her feet charged towards the Flame Pokémon and proceeded with Mega Kick and kicked Flareon across the stage. Justine didn't know what just happened, but she needed to act now.

"Hurry Jolteon use Thunderbolt!" Justine cried out.

As Flareon was flying across and Jolteon prepared a Thunderbolt, Serena looked over at Delphox who just regained her footing. She just had an idea.

"Delphox use Psychic on Flareon and throw him at that Thunderbolt!" Serena smirked.

Delphox surrounded herself and Flareon with a blue aura and sent him flying into Jolteon's attack at the speed of a bullet. Kangaskhan ducked right when the Thunderbolt came, and it began to electrocute Flareon. The Flame Pokémon cried in disarray and then went out in a limb.

The judges gave out the red Xs indicating that Flareon was taken out.

"With just two minutes left, Flareon cannot continue meaning Jolteon will have to face Delphox and Kangaskhan alone!" Lillian announced as Justine lost a huge chunk of points.

That sudden shake of the ground turned the battle around, and it was all an accident. An accident that worked in Serena's favor as Jolteon can't seem to work without his partner in crime.

"What just happened, the whole battle turned around right when Kangaskhan jumped on the ground," Ash said in amazement.

"I think I know what that was," Rotom Dex confirmed as it went through a state of thought, "Kangaskhan just learned the move Earthquake."

"Earthquake," Ash gasped.

"Yes, Earthquake is a ground-type move and since Flareon is a fire-type and Jolteon is a ground-type, that means those two are weak against that attack which made matters worse. Be careful though, because in a double battle or tag battle, that attack can also take effect on the ally Pokémon unless they're flying or have the Levitate ability," Rotom Dex explained.

All three trainers smiled at Kangaskhan's accomplishment. So she learned a new attack, and that attack just put Serena on the brink of winning this round.

"Delphox use Psychic," Serena told Delphox.

The Fox Pokémon engulfed Jolteon in a Psychic attack similar to what Flareon was just in. Now both Delphox and Kangaskhan were eyeing on the Lightning Pokémon.

"Hurry Jolteon, use Discharge!" Justine cried.

"I don't think so. Delphox use Mystical Fire and Kangaskhan use Mega Punch!" Serena commanded.

Delphox brought out the blue fire and engulfed Jolteon into it while Kangaskhan delivered a powerful Mega Punch to add to the burn. Despite already feeling a burn to the head, Kangaskhan's hand burning meant nothing. The attacks stopped as Jolteon was freed from Delphox's grasp and fell onto the ground in a daze. The judges gave the red Xs.

"Jolteon can't continue! Which means the winner of this round is Serena and her Delphox and Kangaskhan!" Lillian announced as a picture of Serena appeared on the screen with Delphox's and Kangaskhan's pictures to the side with the word WINNER underneath.

"Alright, way to go you two!" Serena exclaimed.

They were an unlikely duo, but they pulled it off. It started badly, but in the end Delphox and Kangaskhan pulled through together to beat Jolteon and Flareon. They can enjoy this win right now, but it wasn't going to be easy further down the road as they had some work to do before the next round.

"Well they did it," Rotom Dex said.

"Yeah, but only because of Kangaskhan's Earthquake attack. If Serena hopes to win with them, she can't continue to ride on luck," Calem sighed, "I'm not taking anything away from Serena, but she needs to figure things out if these two have a chance of beating Amelia and her Rapidash and Sandslash."

Amelia watched as she was disgusted. There was no way she could've won that battle against Justine. There was no rhythm between the two Pokémon and it only took that Earthquake to win. Amelia knew that win was nothing but pure luck.

A few matches later

Amelia's next match came and went as her Rapidash and Sandslash once again demoralized her opponents Pokémon. With a bit of swift stick work or shard work with Sandslash and Rapidash's psychic abilities, Sandslash was able to throw his Ice Shard like a boomerang and slice up his opponents and the Ice Shard would come back into his hand.

Now Amelia was sitting in the waiting area awaiting for her final victim. She was hoping Serena would not make it because of her dislike for the honey blonde coordinator. She told her that money wouldn't guarantee her those contest ribbons, but to her it was more like money wouldn't guarantee her those ribbons my ass.

Amelia saw Serena's first match and it was ugly. If that match proved to be pure luck, this one not so much. Delphox and Kangaskhan were going up against a coordinator with an Alakazam and a Golduck. The two did try to fight solo, but Alakazam's psychic powers proved to be a menace. Ash grimaced as he can recall facing Sabrina's Alakazam and narrowly pulling out a win. While that one wasn't as strong, it still proved to be a threat, and then there was Golduck whose water attacks did a number on the fire-type Delphox.

"There is a minute and thirty left as Noah has sixty-eight points while Serena is hovering with just thirty-five," Lillian announced.

This battle wasn't going smoothly either. While the idea of having them battle apart helped against Larry, it wasn't doing any good against Noah.

"Delphox, let's try using Fire Blast!" Serena called out.

Delphox unleashed a Fire Blast and directed it right at Alakazam. Serena hoped Alakazam or Golduck would try to stop it.

"Golduck use Water Pulse!" Noah yelled out.

"Headbutt!" Serena retorted.

Golduck sent out a Water Pulse which cancelled out the Fire Blast, but Kangaskhan charged in with his head lowered coming in at Golduck. Not until Golduck jumped up and was about to run into Alakazam.

"Alakazam use Psychic!" Noah yelled out.

Alakazam engulfed Kangaskhan into a blue aura which left her immobilized. Serena gasped as she saw Kangaskhan in trouble.

"Hurry Delphox use Fire Spin!" Serena called out.

"I don't think so, Golduck another Water Pulse please," Noah told Golduck.

Golduck unleashed another Water Pulse which took out more of Serena's points. Serena was hanging in there, but her points were low.

"Now Golduck, give that Delphox a taste of your Hydro Pump," Noah called out.

"Light Screen!" Serena retorted.

Delphox was caught in a struggle with Golduck as she was using Light Screen to block off Golduck's Hydro Pump, and Kangaskhan was trapped within Alakazam's Psychic which was hurting her. Serena was running out of options.

As Kangaskhan continued to struggle in pain, her baby looked up in worry. His mother was getting hurt by that Pokémon, and he feels like he's getting hurt too, not just physically, but emotionally. He couldn't stand seeing his mom get hurt, just like how his own mother couldn't stand him getting hurt.

The baby roo could only sit in her pouch while his mother did all the work. He looked at his mother and then back at Alakazam. He wanted to help her. He didn't want to just sit in that pouch and do nothing.

"It looks like it could be over with less than a minute left," Lillian announced.

The baby didn't want it to be over. If he continues to sit there he would've failed his mother which means his mother would fail Serena. He wanted to help, and he it was his mother engulfed in the blue aura, and not him. He could help.

The baby roo without warning jumped out of the pouch and delivered his own Headbutt into Alakazam's gut. The Psi Pokémon was caught by surprise when it was the baby who attacked causing him to lose his focus and free Kangaskhan.

"What the, Kangaskhan is free," Serena said in shock as she witness Kangaskhan being freed from Alakazam's grip.

"Whoa, talk about a turn of events. The baby in Kangaskhan's pouch jumped out and attacked Alakazam. That will cost Noah some points," Lillian announced.

"I don't know what just happened, but I won't let that happen again," Noah said, "Use Psychic once more, Golduck keep attacking!"

Alakazam was about to regain his focus. Kangaskhan saw that her baby was out of the pouch. She gasped. While she was thankful that her son helped out, she wasn't going to let Alakazam or anyone else hurt him. The Parent Pokémon's wrath came upon Alakazam.

Kangaskhan charged in frustration and in the blink of an eye proceeded to thrash Alakazam into a pulp as she was not going to let him touch her baby. The baby watched with joy in his eyes as Kangaskhan pounded Alakazam leaving him on the ground in a daze.

Red Xs came to indicate that Alakazam was down and out.

"Alakazam no!" Noah cried as he lost half of his points leaving him only a small lead in front of Serena.

"Alakazam is done, and Noah lost most of his points. Lesson learned, don't anger a parent," Lillian announced.

"Kangaskhan?" Serena questioned.

Kangaskhan quickly scoped up her son and hugged him and put him back in her pouch. She wasn't in a calm state to talk to her son yet. Right now she glared at Delphox and Golduck and knew that Golduck was her next victim.

Serena's eyes widened as Kangaskhan began to come from behind and smash Golduck onto the ground giving Delphox some breathing room. Golduck was laying on his stomach trying to get up.

"I don't know what just happened, but thanks Kangaskhan," Serena said until she saw something.

After Kangaskhan finished beating up Golduck, she started wobbling around the stage like a drunk Pokémon. Her head was spinning, and her footing was off.

"Wait a minute, the way Kangaskhan beat up Alakazam and Golduck, which follows up with the state of Kangaskhan walking like someone who just came out of a bar. It I can recall, that might be Outrage," Serena said to herself.

Outrage was a dragon-type move that was excessively powerful but would cause the Pokémon to be put into confusion after using it two or three times. Kangaskhan used that move twice on Alakazam and then on Golduck. While it did get Delphox out of harms way, it meant Delphox was on her own with Golduck as the Parent Pokémon continued to hilariously stumble on stage.

"Hurry Delphox use Psyshock!" Serena commanded.

"Use Zen Headbutt!" Noah yelled out.

Delphox brought out a Psyshock while Golduck's head glowed as he came in using Zen Headbutt. Delphox blasted her attack at Golduck, but the Duck Pokémon broke through. Delphox gasped and just when Serena was about to order another Light Screen…

BUZZ!

"Times up, and this one was a close one. We have a winner by just one point," Lillian announced as the scores show how close it was between Serena and Noah, "And the coordinator moving on to the final stage is."

There was a dramatic pause as everyone awaited to hear who the winner was. Serena was clenching her fists hoping that she survived. Then Lillian made her announcement.

"Serena, by just one point!" Lillian announced as a picture of Serena, Delphox, and Kangaskhan appeared with the word WINNER underneath.

Serena let out a huge sigh of relief. This was another close call as Serena just bested Noah for a spot in the finals. Serena went over to her Pokémon and gave them a big hug while praising them for a job well done.

As soon as both coordinators returned their Pokémon, Serena and Noah approached the center of the stage and shook hands.

"I have to admit, you did a great job," Serena complemented.

"You too. Surprised to see the baby decided to join in on the fun," Noah said giving a chuckle.

Serena couldn't help but laugh at that. While she was thankful for Kangaskhan's baby's actions, she couldn't help but admit it was cute.

"Don't take this the wrong way, because I would say the same for myself, you are going to need a miracle to beat Amelia," Noah said.

Noah's words sunk into Serena's head. Of course, she was going to be facing the wealthy brat next on the final stage. Serena has been in a struggle for most of this contest while Amelia has been on cruise control. Serena now had a frown on her face.

"You could be right," Serena muttered as she finished the handshake.

20 minutes later

An intermission took place as they prepared for the final battle of the contest. Both Amelia and Serena took the stage as they were standing next to each other presenting themselves to the crowd.

"We are going to prepare for our final battle of the day, it's Amelia versus Serena! The winner will take home the coveted Cinnabar Ribbon!" Lillian announced.

Amelia gave Serena a disgusting look while Serena just looked back. She was wondering what the heck was she doing in the finals. This girl barely won her first two matches, and she ends up facing her.

"You're pathetic," Amelia muttered.

"You're just upset that I'm facing you again," Serena sighed.

"No, you don't deserve to be here today. I can take it your appeal was alright, but the teamwork with those two Pokémon were pathetic," Amelia said in a snide tone.

"Says the coordinator who pays a breeder to train her Pokémon," Serena rebutted, "I admit it wasn't a pretty sight for Delphox and Kangaskhan to work together, but at least I'm making an effort having them compete together."

"There has not been anything glamorous those two Pokémon presented together, not to mention that little psychic catapult only cost you points rather than giving you praise," Amelia explained, "That shows you that you have money like I do, then you can find the best in the business to help your Pokémon shine in these contests like Chad does. Too bad you're not rich like me."

There she goes again saying that it was her money that got her those wins.

"What if you weren't rich?" Serena questioned in a snide tone.

"Excuse me?" Amelia questioned.

"What if you didn't have this wealth that you were bestowed with? Where would you stand as a Pokémon coordinator?" Serena questioned.

"Obvious, I would be with you in the dumps like the rest of these coordinators," Amelia muttered, "Every single coordinator who've I've faced is a failure and the judges messing up that one contest and Chad not putting enough effort into the previous training caused me to lose to you and damage my reputation as a coordinator."

What is this girl talking about? She thinks that the system was messed up or that her personal breeder didn't do a fine enough job training when in reality she lost to a coordinator who was better than her. Serena wanted to scream something at her, but that wouldn't make her look good and they just disqualify her. She didn't just insulted her, but other coordinators too, including her rivals Calem, Shauna, and even Miette.

"I'm going to keep my words to myself. The best way to prove that your money doesn't make you a great coordinator is for you to lose to me. A Pokémon coordinator who has taken the time to not only train their Pokémon, but take the time to connect with them," Serena declared.

Amelia then let out a snicker. Really, that Delphox and Kangaskhan are going to give her a run for her money when her Rapidash and Sandslash have breezed through the competition.

"Good luck, you'll need it," Amelia smirked.

Serena took a deep breath and proceeded to her side of the stage. Their pictures were now on the screen with a full set of points underneath, and the timer set at five minutes.

Rotom Dex was zooming in on the conversation and heard what Amelia and Serena were talking about. The floating Pokedex proved to be mad as the others heard as well. Ash, Leaf, Calem, and Munchlax all frowned from Amelia's comment.

"How dare she talk about her fellow rivals like that. I put so much hard work and pride to get into the Grand Festival, and to think that I'm at the basement because I don't pay someone to let me be dishonest with my work," Calem uttered.

"This girl is pretty rotten. To think she has won all of those ribbons, if only they knew," Leaf said in disgust.

"I know how much we can't stand her, but I am concerned for Serena. Despite it not being her doing, that Rapidash and Sandslash are truly a team. Serena is going to have her work cut out for her," Ash said.

Chad was sitting there with his arms crossed. Rapidash and Sandslash have proven to be doing very well together. Now it was time to finish the job, and with what Delphox and Kangaskhan have been presenting, this should be a piece of cake. At the same time, he shouldn't underestimate them as they snuck wins in for Serena.

"Alright Rapidash and Sandslash, get me back to my normal pay. I did a lot for you, not please don't mess up. I don't want to hear from her again," Chad said to himself.

Pallet Town-Gabena Household

Grace and Jade were sitting on their couch watching the contest on TV with Shauna on her knees and Trevor and Tierno laying on the floor. Shauna had her fists up with determination hoping Serena can win.

"Come on Serena, I don't want to face you in Viridian City," Shauna said in thought.

Cinnabar Island-Contest Hall

"Amelia and Serena have now taken their respective sides. They each have five minutes on the clock. Let's begin!" Lillian announced as the clock started counting down.

"Rapidash and Sandslash, time for the finale!" Amelia exclaimed sending out Rapidash and Sandslash.

"Delphox, Kangaskhan, spotlight!" Serena yelled out releasing Delphox and Kangaskhan.

Rapidash emerged from her Heal Ball with Sandslash following from his Luxury Ball. Rapidash once again landed on all four while Sandslash followed up hopping on Rapidash's back. Rapidash raised her upper body in the air with Sandslash holding on with one hand raising the other arm just like before.

Delphox emerged as she did a couple of front flips landing on both of her feet while Kangaskhan just landed on both of her feet. The crowd felt more pumped with Rapidash and Sandslash as they gave a great display to the audience.

"Now Rapidash, gallop towards those two and Sandslash, use an Icicle Spear as your mighty sword once more," Amelia said in a presenting tone.

Rapidash began to gallop with Sandslash at helm. As they were beginning to charges towards Delphox and Kangaskhan, Serena managed to come up with a plan.

"Kangaskhan, stand your ground with Focus Energy!" Serena called out.

As Rapidash continued to gallop across the stage, Kangaskhan jumped in front of Delphox and pumped herself up with Focus Energy. The Parent Pokémon locked her arms around the front of Rapidash stopping her in place. Rapidash tried to charge but Kangaskhan wouldn't let her budge.

"Sandslash, attack!" Amelia called out.

Sandslash wielded his Icicle Spear and proceeded to slash it across Kangaskhan's chest causing her to lose her grip, and some points for Serena.

"Delphox use Flamethrower!" Serena commanded as she saw an opening.

Delphox unleashed a Flamethrower right at the two Pokémon. Amelia looked onward and smirked at Serena.

"Confusion Rapidash," Amelia told her Pokémon.

Rapidash used Confusion and guided it right back at Kangaskhan just as she was getting up. It was a magnificent display of how a Flamethrower was turned around like that costing Serena more points.

Kangaskhan was able to toughen herself out after taking her teammates own attack, especially with the experience of Psychic. Serena wasn't sure what to do, she could use Earthquake, but then she would put Delphox in danger too.

"Now give them a Dazzling Gleaming Blizzard!" Amelia commanded.

Rapidash was gathering fairy like energy while Sandslash started to whip up a Blizzard combing Dazzling Gleam and Blizzard. Delphox probably wouldn't feel much pain from the Blizzard or the Dazzling Gleam, but Kangaskhan on the other hand could.

Serena could see that Kangaskhan may not endure the attack after all she has been through. Serena was trying to think of what she could do to stop it and realized that anything to save Kangaskhan seems futile. Then something came up.

It may be a lost cause for Kangaskhan, but she could send a final attack out before it comes their way. She then looked at Delphox, she would have to go solo, but having one Pokémon was better than none.

"Delphox use Flamethrower on the ground!" Serena retorted.

Delphox in a hurry launched a Flamethrower on the ground to boost herself up, and at the next second, Serena called out another command with three and a half minutes left.

"Earthquake Kangaskhan!" Serena retorted.

Rapidash and Sandslash released their respective attacks which resembled a majestic pink light and sparkling pink snow coming in at high speed. Kangaskhan jumped up and stomped on the ground shaking it in the process as Delphox boosted herself into the air to evade the Earthquake.

Rapidash was losing her footing as Sandslash caught off by the massive trembling struggled to stay on Rapidash and fall off which cost Amelia a couple of points. The attacks would hit Kangaskhan dead on and the Parent Pokémon screamed in agony.

"What's going on!" Amelia screeched.

"Fire Blast on Sandslash!" Serena called out to her Delphox.

Delphox narrowed her eyes on the fallen Sandslash and unleashed a fiery star at the Mouse Pokémon.

"Sandslash, stop that now!" Amelia ordered.

It was too late, Delphox's Fire Blast hit Sandslash dead on and the Mouse Pokémon acting as a knight couldn't withstand the power of Fire Blast due to his ice-type status. Kangaskhan collapsed to the ground and Sandslash went out in a limb as the judges gave red Xs to both coordinators.

"Kangaskhan and Sandslash have been both knocked out which is going to cost Amelia and Serena a whole lot of points," Lillian announced as both coordinators lost over half of their points.

Amelia stood in shock to see that her Sandslash was defeated, but she still maintained the lead. Serena looked sadly at Kangaskhan but was grateful for her actions. She pulled out her Safari Ball and returned the Parent Pokémon.

"Good job Kangaskhan, Delphox will take it from here," Serena told Kangaskhan.

"You cheated!" Amelia yelled as she turned to the judges, "She cheated."

"No she didn't, what her Pokémon did was legal," Mr. Contesta told Amelia.

"There isn't anything remarkable about how you're acting," Mr. Suziko stated.

"And not to mention your Sandslash is in no condition to continue," Nurse Joy stated.

"It's fine, get up Sandslash!" Amelia hollered, "They're just rigging this thing, so I lose!"

"This is your only warning, one more comment and I will issue you a yellow card which is enough to lead to your disqualification!" Lillian announced as she was fed up.

Some people in the crowd were starting to get fed up and began to shout at her about her unsportsmanlike behavior. The group couldn't help but feel as if it were music to their ears. Serena wanted to smirk at her, but she needed to stay professional or else it could come right back at her.

"Amelia don't waste your time with them! You and Rapidash should focus on me and Delphox, and don't try and say anything to me because it will only put you in a deeper hole," Serena told Amelia, "Sandslash clearly can't go on, so just try with Rapidash."

Despite how much she can't stand Serena, she was right. Right now Amelia was in a state where anything she did would cause her to lose. She still had the lead, and she should work on maintaining that lead. Amelia let out an angry sigh and returned the Mouse Pokémon without making a comment.

With only two minutes left on the clock thanks to Amelia's small tirade, it was time to get back to work. Serena couldn't figure out how to make combinations with Delphox and Kangaskhan, but she knew how to have Delphox make combinations herself. As they were standing, Serena was feeling a little hot. It could be the harsh sunlight that might make her feel that way.

"I'm not going to lose to you! Rapidash use Megahorn!" Amelia screamed.

"I don't know about your Rapidash, but Delphox has some tricks up her sleeve," Serena told Amelia. "Delphox use Psybeam and Fire Spin together!"

As Rapidash charged at Delphox with Megahorn, the Fox Pokémon raised her stick and fired both a Psybeam and a Fire Spin at the same time creating a fiery Psybeam. The attack struck Rapidash as it stopped her in her tracks costing Amelia more points.

"Psycho Cut!" Amelia ranted.

Rapidash's attack caught Delphox off guard as she took a blow to the gut from the Psycho Cut. Some reason Serena felt slight discomfort in her stomach. Once again, was it the heat? Not now, she needed to focus on the match.

"Mystical Fire!" Serena commanded.

"Dazzling Gleam!" Amelia called out.

With a minute left on the clock, both Pokémon released their respective attacks and the two attacks collided creating a fiery sparkling explosion. While it was a good fireworks show, it cost both coordinators points.

"Hurry and use Psybeam!" Amelia ordered.

Rapidash blasted a Psybeam from her horn and directed it at Delphox while there was still dust. The dust wasn't as thick and Serena and Delphox were able to make out what was coming. For some reason, Serena felt like she saw the attack from a different point of view.

"Light Screen!" Serena retorted.

Delphox acted quickly and blocked the Psybeam with her own Light Screen. While it helped Delphox on the defense, Serena needed to get some offense in. Then she had an idea.

"Delphox, move your stick to the right and use Fire Spin," Serena told Delphox.

The Fox Pokémon heard what Serena said, in fact it felt like she had that idea too for some strange reason. Whatever was the case, Delphox moved her stick to the right-hand side and blasted a Fire Spin.

The Unique Horn Pokémon stood in shock when she saw that Fire Spin wondering how Delphox was able to send a Fire Spin off like that. Rapidash's Psybeam was disrupted and she was scorched by the Fire Spin. Rapidash cried in pain as Delphox let down her Light Screen.

Rapidash tried to regain her footing while Delphox was back in battle stance when suddenly…

BUZZ

"Time's up!" Lillian announced.

Amelia and Serena looked at the scoreboard and both of them were in shock what they were seeing. Lillian was amazed by the scene on the board too as the judges were pleased with the result which would make this contest interesting.

Both coordinators had exactly 9 points remaining finishing in a tie.

"We have ourselves a tie! Amelia and Serena both finish with identical amount of points which means…we are heading to sudden death!" Lillian announced as the crowd erupts.

Amelia frowned at the sight of the scoreboard. First she loses to this poor girl, now she was tied with her. She had a world class act with her two Pokémon and Serena planted the thorns in her again!

Serena on the other hand was feeling nervous and warm. She was getting these strange feelings as if she were the one on the stage rather than Delphox. Serena was ignoring those feelings as she knew there was more to come.

"Sudden death?" Ash questioned.

"It's a tiebreaker, this will determine the winner," Calem answered.

Pallet Town-Gabena Household

Delia was watching the contest on TV at her house while Professor Oak tuned in at his lab. Everyone in the Gabena household was feeling adrenaline running through their blood as Serena was going to be competing in sudden death.

"I can't believe, Serena's going to sudden death," Tierno said pumping his fists.

Shauna was grabbing the TV shaking it trying to reach out to Serena.

"Come on Serena! Don't lose on me!" Shauna cried as she shook the TV.

"Take it easy Shauna, if you break the TV, no one will see who wins," Jade said in an assuring tone.

"Sorry," Shauna sheepishly said.

Jade let out a sigh of relief. She was hoping there wasn't another episode of watching the contest in an alternative way like the time she tried to hold in her diarrhea at the Celadon City Department Store. Thank Arceus she didn't need to use the bathroom.

Cinnabar Island-Contest Hall

Serena and Amelia were meeting on center stage as Mr. Contesta was now beside them to explain the rules of sudden death.

"Amelia, Serena, this is sudden death. You will each start with fifty points. Since you each lost a Pokémon in the double performance, you will only use the Pokémon that you still have which means Amelia will have to use Rapidash and Serena will have to use Delphox. There is no time limit, so the battle goes on until either the opposing Pokémon is unable to battle, or the opposing coordinator's points reach zero. The last one standing will be the winner of this contest," Mr. Contesta explained as he explained sudden death.

So it was going to come down to this. Serena and Amelia would each get half the usual points as it would be a duel between Rapidash and Delphox. Delphox was feeling the same determination as Serena to beat Amelia. She would have to proceed without the help of Kangaskhan though.

Amelia stood on the left side while Serena stood on the right side. The whole group leaned in not being bothered by the harsh sunrays. While Munchlax was sad he ate all of his cotton candy, that was the least on his mind. He too wanted to see the outcome of this battle.

"I'm going to be hearing from Amelia for letting this contest get out of hand. She better win or I'm going to be in even more trouble," Chad muttered.

"Alright coordinators, sudden death starts now!" Lillian announced.

"Rapidash use Agility!" Amelia commanded.

Rapidash galloped across the stage while raising her speed. Amelia grunted as the scene of Rapidash doesn't look as beautiful due to Sandslash's absence.

"Use Flamethrower!" Serena called out.

"Megahorn!" Amelia retorted.

Delphox unleashed her Flamethrower, but with Rapidash's Megahorn and her increased speed, she was able to break through Flamethrower and strike Delphox in the gut. The Fox Pokémon cringed as Serena didn't just lose points, she also felt a jab in her stomach. Why was she feeling that?

Serena took a deep breath and placed her hand on her stomach. Lillian noticed the actions Serena was taking and felt concerned herself.

"Are you okay?" Lillian asked.

"I'm fine," Serena replied as she turned back to the battle, "Mystical Fire!"

"Dazzling Gleam!" Amelia called out.

Delphox regained her composure as she unleashed a Mystical Fire attack while Rapidash countered with Dazzling Gleam. The beauty of the two attacks collided creating a colorful fiery explosion. Amelia smirked as she found a way to take advantage of that.

"Jump into that dust and use Take Down on that Delphox!" Amelia commanded.

Rapidash began to gallop into the fiery dust and when she emerged out, she was sparkling while having pink embers flow around her body. Delphox was caught off guard as she was smashed into the ground by Rapidash.

Serena was losing more points and she was starting to feel more cringy than before. It was almost like she was feeling exactly what Delphox was feeling.

"Alright, now use Psychic and let's wrap it up," Amelia said in a disgusting tone as she snapped her fingers.

Rapidash lifted Delphox into the air with her Psychic attack. Despite Delphox being a psychic-type herself, the attack wouldn't do as much damage, but it was still powerful. Rapidash caught Delphox in a grip.

"It looks like the end could be coming for Serena as Rapidash subdues Delphox in a psychic bind taking more points from Serena," Lillian announced as her points were now in the mid-twenties.

Delphox was struggling to move and Serena seems like she was struggling to move. She felt helpless as Delphox was engulfed in Rapidash's Psychic attack. The toll it took on Delphox proved how powerful this Pokémon was, not to mention Delphox had some energy drained from her previous battles.

"It looks like it's over," Leaf said in worry.

"This isn't fair, Amelia doesn't deserve to win," Calem angrily said as he looked down.

"She won't give up, I know she won't," Ash said.

Serena can recall those words from Ash never give up till the end. While the situation looked hopeless for Serena, she knew this battle wasn't over. She just wanted a miracle, something where Delphox could just overpower that Rapidash.

Delphox was crying in pain as Rapidash engulfed her in her Psychic attack. Delphox couldn't move. This Rapidash was too powerful. As she was struggling, she felt a whirlwind of thoughts running through her head. They weren't just involving the contest, but they also consisted of some of Serena's thoughts. How she knew that Amelia was a spoiled brat who hires a specialist to train her Pokémon rather than train them herself. Not to mention she boasts that she is in the dumps of the contest world because she isn't rich like her.

That felt like an insult not only to Serena, but to her too. Delphox knew that Serena has always been there for her, including her darkest times. She wasn't just her first Pokémon, but she was the first human she truly opened up too with Ash following through. Serena has also shown that love to all of her Pokémon who grown to become her friends. They grew together, they dealt with dangerous situations together, and they became happy together. What has Amelia done for her Pokémon, nothing!

Delphox now understood what Serena was thinking while Serena could feel what was going through Delphox's mind along with the fact that it feels like she couldn't move too. Serena would hide it from the judges so they wouldn't get concerned. But right now, she and Delphox were on the same page, they didn't want this girl to get her way.

"Serena, I don't want her to win! It feels like she is insulting our bond!" Delphox shouted in her Pokémon tongue which caused Serena to understand.

Serena knew what was happening now!

"Then let's beat Rapidash together," Serena told Delphox, "Let's show her how our bond makes us stronger."

Then all of a sudden Delphox was engulfed in a fire cyclone feeling a new form of life while Serena felt as if she could move again. It feels like Delphox can move because of Serena while they feel their souls coming together. Serena and Delphox where this was going.

"What's going on!" Amelia screeched.

"It seems Delphox has suddenly brought out a fire cyclone to cover herself. What could Delphox be doing?" Lillian questioned.

Ash's and Munchlax's eyes sparkled while Leaf and Calem watched in shock. Everyone was wondering what was going on with Delphox, but it looks like Ash and Munchlax knew what it was.

"Ash, do you know what's happening to Delphox?" Leaf asked.

"I do," Ash answered with a big smile on his face.

Then their answers came as the fire cyclone died down with Delphox busting out of Rapidash's Psychic. The Unique Horn Pokémon took a few steps back in shock by the sudden fact Delphox broke out. The entire audience looked on in shock wondering what they were seeing.

Back at Pallet Town, Delia, Professor Oak, Grace, Jade, Shauna, Trevor, and Tierno looked on in shock seeing what just happened.

Delphox's appearance changed as she now had pink ears with honey-blonde fur coming out of her ears, and Delphox now had blue pupils. Serena-Delphox has returned!

"Wow, I don't what just happened, but it seems Delphox has started to resemble Serena. I never even heard of this ability!" Lillian announced in shock as Amelia lost a huge chunk of points.

"What's going on! Why am I losing points!?" Amelia angrily questioned.

"Because Delphox's breakout came from something we may have never witnessed in our lives," Mr. Contesta answered.

"This is highly remarkable," Mr. Suziko responded.

"And Delphox's new appearance is just breathtaking," Nurse Joy added on.

The entire crowd erupted in cheers and applause from the marvel witnessed. Delphox and Serena smirked at Amelia and Rapidash. The Unique Horn Pokémon stood there in shock still trying to process what just happened. Seeing the Battle Bond activated not only gave Delphox the much-needed strength to turn this battle around and win, but it also would teach Amelia a lesson.

"The Bond Phenomenon!" Rotom Dex cheered.

"Let's call Battle Bond for short," Ash told Rotom Dex.

"Take a look Amelia. You can pay all the money you want to your personal breeder, but that money can never create what me and Delphox created, because we created this together," Serena told Amelia.

Amelia clenched her teeth as they were about ready to crack. This girl was angry now and she was going to teach her a lesson.

"Rapidash use Psybeam, FULL BLAST!" Amelia screamed.

"Counter with your own Psybeam," Serena responded as she did a twirl.

Rapidash quickly fired a Psybeam at full power while Delphox did a spin and launched her own Psybeam right at Rapidash's. The two Psybeams were locked on as Serena pumped her arms which Delphox felt giving her the extra strength. Delphox's Psybeam completely overpowered Rapidash's blasting her backwards and taking more of Amelia's points away.

"Hurry and use Dazzling Gleam!" Amelia yelled.

"Use Flamethrower to push yourself up!" Serena retorted.

Rapidash unleashed a beaming pink light at Delphox, but Delphox quickly powered herself up into the air. Serena and Delphox were both having visions of Rapidash's attack missing.

"Now use your own Psychic," Serena told Delphox.

"My pleasure," Delphox responded.

Delphox engulfed Rapidash in a psychic bind similar to what Delphox herself was in not long ago. Boy how the tables turned. Rapidash was lifted into the air as she was struggling to move.

"I never knew how powerful my psychic powers are with this special connection," Delphox said.

"Not now Delphox, it's time for the finale," Serena told Delphox, "Fire Blast!"

"I wouldn't mind a few fireworks myself," Delphox replied as she unleashed her own Fire Blast at Rapidash.

Rapidash was fully subdued in Delphox's Psychic as she couldn't move. Amelia was screaming to her Pokémon to break free and try anything, but the situation was hopeless. Rapidash's eyes widened when she saw Delphox's Fire Blast closing in. The Unique Horn Pokémon prepared for the inevitable.

The fire engulfed Rapidash creating a fiery explosion, and adding to the effects due to Rapidash's mane, there were some pink powder within the fires. Rapidash came crashing down onto the stage and landed on the ground laying on her side. Rapidash was not moving, and though that attack drained Amelia's points to zero, the judges gave her red Xs anyway.

"Not only did Amelia lose all of her points, but her Rapidash is out cold! Which means the winner of the Cinnabar Island Pokémon Contest is Serena!" Lillian announced as the screen showed pictures of Serena, Delphox, and Kangaskhan with the word WINNER underneath.

The entire crowd erupted into applause and cheer as Delphox smirked with a fire cyclone covering her again reverting her back to her normal state. Serena was feeling like herself again as she wasn't feeling what Delphox was feeling right now. This battle bond thing wasn't under their control yet, but they hope to get it down soon.

Right now that was the least of what was going through Serena's mind. Serena just realized she didn't just best Amelia again, despite the odds, she just won her fifth contest. She won her last ribbon.

"I…won…I WON!" Serena cheered as she went from quiet to excited.

"YEAH!" Ash shouted in the stands.

"Take that Amelia!" Calem cheered.

"I can't believe it, Serena actually did it!" Leaf cheered.

"Munchlax!" Munchlax hollered.

"Serena Gabena did it! Serena Gabena has made her way into the Grand Festival!" Rotom Dex cheered as it danced around hovering.

Ash and Munchlax here hugging each other. Leaf snuck in from behind and hugged Ash from the back. Calem looked down with his arms crossed and a smile on his face.

"Serena, I don't know what the hell just happened, but I'm proud of you. I'm proud to have a rival like you. You overcame the odds and stuck to your beliefs and you won. I'm looking forward to seeing you at Indigo Plateau, because I know you'll give me a good battle," Calem thought to himself.

Pallet Town-Gabena Household

"Serena did it! Serena did it!" Shauna cheered.

"My baby girl is going to be a star!" Jade cheered with tears coming out of her eyes.

"Serena, I'm so proud of you," Grace said as she choked up herself.

Grace looked down with a sad smile on her face. Looking at what she did today truly reminded her of her father. There was her daughter living a dream that she abandoned because of her father's disappearance. Grace was thankful that nothing happened to her that made her give up on her dream.

"Dad, I wish you could see what your granddaughter is doing. I know she would be making you proud," Grace thought to herself.

Cinnabar Island-Contest Hall

"Way to go Delphox!" Serena cried as she hugged Delphox.

The Fox Pokémon turned around to see Serena coming her way. She returned the gesture with her own hug. A while back, she was a Fennekin who came in as Serena's starter Pokémon, now she was a full grown Delphox helping Serena achieve her dream after she helped her bring closure to her and Greninja.

"I'm so proud of Delphox. You've come a long way since you were just a Fennekin. Now here we are winning our fifth and final ribbon. This wasn't just your victory, but Kangaskhan has a hand in it too," Serena told Delphox.

"Delphox," Delphox replied.

While the translation wasn't there right now, Serena knew that Delphox didn't win this alone. They were a team, they won it together.

Amelia was ready to blow a fume as she returned her Rapidash. The rich girl narrowed her eyes into the audience as she spotted Chad. The breeder was not looking happy right now as Amelia looked as if she was ready to murder him in broad daylight.

"Please, I did everything right," Chad uttered in a whisper, "I never even seen something like that in my life."

Amelia stormed off the stage like a child throwing a temper-tantrum. This was an improvement from her last contest, at least she wasn't accusing the judges of fixing the contest or possibly say something nasty to Serena. Serena knew that girl wasn't worth the time.

10 minutes later

All of the coordinators except for Amelia appear on the stage as Mr. Contesta was ready to present Serena with her ribbon. Serena had Delphox, Kangaskhan, Pikachu, and Sylveon on her side as they all helped her win this contest.

"Serena, I will admit this wasn't pretty for you, but you and your Pokémon never gave in and you braved the storm which suddenly brought you on top. Please accept the Cinnabar Ribbon as proof of your victory today," Mr. Contesta announced.

"Thank you very much," Serena said with tears coming from her eyes.

Serena grabbed the red-brownish ribbon and held it in her fingertips. She did it, she got her final ribbon which guarantees herself a spot in the Grand Festival.

"Alright, I got the Cinnabar Ribbon!" Serena exclaimed as she twirled around presenting the ribbon in her fingertips.

"Pikachu!" Pikachu chanted.

"Sylveon!" Sylveon chanted.

"Delphox!" Delphox chanted.

"Kangaskhan!" Kangaskhan chanted.

The entire crowd cheered on as Serena was showing off her ribbon to the crowd. Ash, Leaf, Calem, Munchlax, and Rotom Dex all cheered with the crowd.

"Thank you everybody for cheering these coordinators on! We hope you enjoy the rest of our day! Watch out for the sun stroke here on Cinnabar Island!" Lillian announced.

Serena was now making her way off the stage with her Pokémon. She knew her moms were watching this contest today, heck before the battle portions, she knew Shauna was watching too. Imagine the looks on their faces when they see that she got all five of her ribbons. Serena knew Ash would be so proud of her. Maybe this would give Ash some encouragement to gain himself a gym battle with Blaine.

Before Serena could make her way to the locker room to change back into her normal attire, she was confronted by Nurse Joy. She was holding what appeared to be a large envelope.

"Serena Gabena," Nurse Joy replied.

"Yes," Serena replied.

"First up, I want to congratulate you once again on your win today," said Nurse Joy.

"Thank you very much. I could've not done it without the help of my Pokémon," Serena said as she looks at her Pokémon.

Of course all of her Pokémon were still out of their balls. Not to mention Pikachu doesn't even have a Pokeball. Nurse Joy smiled at her and all of the Pokémon.

"You really got some great Pokémon there," Nurse Joy said with a smile, "Now just to be clear, this was your fifth ribbon am I correct?"

"You bet it is," Serena answered with a wink.

"Well then, I need to talk to you about something," Nurse Joy said.

Nurse Joy who was one of the judges wanted to talk to Serena about something. What was it that she wanted to talk about. Did it have anything to do with her tension with Amelia, could it have been her faulty combination that put Kangaskhan in danger, or maybe it had something to do with the battle bond.

Well either way Serena was going to find out. Nurse Joy handed Serena the envelope she had in her hands.

Cinnabar Island-Outside the Contest Hall

-Serena emerges out of the Contest Hall saying in order to officially qualify for the Grand Festival, she must obtain an entry ribbon in the Viridian Gym

Ash, Leaf, Calem, Munchlax, and Rotom Dex all stood outside the hall awaiting for Serena to return. Ash promised her a big kiss when he saw her again. He was rubbing his tongue around his lips readying for that kiss. All of them were prepared to congratulate her, all except for Calem. He had a frown on his face as he knew what was about to happen.

Then Serena emerged from the double doors with Pikachu holding that same envelope. There was one thing wrong with her though. She wasn't smiling, she was slightly hanging her head down frowning. Did something go on in there?

Ash wasn't sure what to make of Serena's mood, but he knew what would cheer her up.

"Congratulations Serena!" Ash cheered as he wrapped his arms around Serena giving her a big kiss.

Despite the mood, Serena was intrigued by the kiss. Well that helped her after what she just heard after the contest. It wasn't a horrible thing, it was just…something she didn't expect.

"Woooo!" Leaf cheered.

Ash and Serena broke off the kiss and let go of Serena. Serena let out a small smile. At least she got that kiss from Ash.

"Thanks Ash, I needed that," Serena said.

"So what was wrong with you? Did something happen?" Ash asked.

Serena looked down as she wasn't completely upset. She was just a little surprised with what came to her. Serena looked around to see Ash and Leaf were worried while Calem let out a deep breath.

"You shouldn't be sad, you got your final ribbon," Leaf kindly said, "You're in the Grand Festival."

The next Serena said was going to shock everyone. Everyone but Calem.

"That's what I thought…but I didn't get in," Serena confessed.

What! Serena got the five ribbons required to get into the Grand Festival. How could they have said she didn't into the Grand Festival? Was one of her ribbons a phony? Did they learn that a previous contest she won wasn't a fair win?

"How could that be Serena? You won all five ribbons! How could you not have gotten into the Grand Festival? Did you not get them in time?" Ash asked.

"Let me finish, I didn't get in…yet" Serena replied.

"Yet," Ash, Leaf, and Rotom Dex responded in a puzzling matter.

"I know where this is going," Calem said, "Go ahead Serena, break the news."

Serena then looked at Calem with a surprised look on her face. Something tells her that he already knew about it.

"As I said, I've won all five ribbons but in order to officially qualify for the Grand Festival, I have to win another ribbon. It's a special kind of ribbon called…an entry ribbon," Serena told everyone.

"An entry ribbon?" Ash questioned.

"I know what she's talking about, because I had to get one," Calem confessed.

Everyone looked at Calem as they heard he got this special kind of ribbon. Just what was this entry ribbon about? Serena heard about it from Nurse Joy, but since it was new to Serena, it was a good idea to let Calem speak.

"An entry ribbon is actually what they consider the final evaluation. In order to obtain one you must beat a random official Pokémon League Gym Leader in a full six on six battle only being allowed to use Pokémon in contests that you have won," Calem explained.

Well that explains how Serena needed to get this ribbon. She just had to beat a gym leader. Then Calem proceeded to explain why this was added.

"It's hard to keep track of the level of competition coordinators deal with. Some coordinators may have won their five ribbons by winning all of their contests against weaker inexperienced coordinators and enter the Grand Festival passing off as top coordinator material. The Pokémon League agreed with the contest committee as they think this would be the best way to evaluate if you're considered top coordinator material so that way anyone competing in the Grand Festival will be competing with high honor," Calem explained.

Calem made a good point. While the competition for Serena was challenging for her, she couldn't help but agree with the committee's option. Seriously, someone could have won all five ribbons against garbage competition only to appear in the Grand Festival as a potential waste of space and be gone after the first round.

"I think I understand why you we're at Fuchsia City knowing about the Fuchsia Gym," Ash said in amazement.

"That's right," Calem replied as he pulled out his badge case revealing his five ribbons and a contest ribbon where the pin is replaced with a Soul Badge, "My random gym leader assigned to me was Koga."

"Why we're you keeping this from us?" Ash questioned.

"Munchlax," Munchlax replied.

"I reason I kept it from Serena is because I didn't want to add any further pressure on her. While Serena has considered to be a good rival for me, I wanted her to keep her focus on getting her five ribbons without having to worry about that until the time came," Calem explained.

"How come Lillian never says anything on stage about this ribbon?" Ash asked.

"Because they want to keep it secret to all rookie coordinators. Veteran coordinators will already have known about it," Calem answered.

Well it made sense. It was best for these coordinators to worry about getting the five ribbons before having to face a gym leader for this entry ribbon.

"That reminds me Serena, where do they have you assigned for an entry ribbon?" Leaf asked.

Serena had a beaming smile on her face. While it was just another obstacle for getting into the Grand Festival, Serena was excited to tell Ash where she would be competing for that ribbon.

"The gym that was randomly chosen for me is none other than the Viridian Gym," Serena answered happily, "Not only can I qualify for the Grand Festival, but Ash can win his final badge there too! Talk about killing two Pidgeys with one stone."

Now this got Ash excited more than ever. He could not only win his Earth Badge, but watch Serena clinch a spot in the Grand Festival for real.

"That's awesome! Now I'm more determined than ever to get into the Cinnabar Gym," Ash declared, "As soon as I figure out how I can prove myself to be a worthy trainer."

"I'm sure it will come to you Ash," Serena said assuring.

Serena still hasn't told Ash about the volcano. But she'll wait until Blaine accepts a challenge from him.

1 hour later

Ash, Serena, and Leaf were at the port as Calem was about to board the ferry. The group would be staying not only so Ash can qualify for a gym battle, but to obtain their fossil Pokémon too.

"Sorry I can't stay much longer with you guys. I'm heading to Viridian City to watch the next contest," Calem stated.

"That's okay Calem. You want to scout those potential Grand Festival coordinators to see what you're up against," Leaf said.

Serena then realized something. Shauna said she would be competing in the Viridian City Pokémon Contest. That means there could be a meeting between Calem and Shauna.

"Hey Calem, I want to tell you something," Serena responded.

"What's that?" Calem asked.

"It's about this contest you're about to watch. I have a friend who is going to be taking part in that contest, and she's also going to get her fifth ribbon. Her name is Shauna, and he has brown pigtails that swirl around her head," Serena explained while giving a description of her rival.

"And what do you me to do?" Calem asked.

"Nothing, I thought I just let you know that if you do run into her, tell her that you know me. I thought it would be nice for my friends to know my other friends too," Serena stated.

"Alright, I will if I see her," Calem said giving a thumbs up.

With that, Calem boarded the ferry. After a couple of minutes, the ferry took off and began to leave port. The group looked ahead and saw Calem waving out to the group. The group waived goodbye to Calem as he was leaving.

"See you in the Grand Festival Serena! I know you'll get that last ribbon!" Calem called out, "And Ash, best of luck in your gym battle!"

"Thanks Calem! And don't you worry, I won't be leaving Cinnabar Island until I have a badge with my name on it!" Ash called out.

Everybody continued to wave goodbye until the ship was out of sight. Now it was time for Ash to prepare for his seventh gym badge.

Somewhere on the ferry

Despite Calem being aboard that ferry, there was another familiar face on board. Amelia was on the ferry too and she finished scolding Chad once more for another failed contest. Chad wasn't taking it too well as he put so much hard work into Rapidash's and Sandslash's routine only to be bested by a Delphox transformation.

As Amelia watched Cinnabar Island from the distance, she knew that Serena was still residing on that island. She had a death glare on her face as she already got humiliated by her twice. First it was her Pinsir, now it was her Delphox.

"You blonde bitch, how dare you make me look bad! The next time we meet, you're going to be forced into an early retirement," Amelia snarled.

Amelia knew that the next time she would see Serena would be at the Grand Festival. Amelia would make her pay for those losses and damaging her sparkling contest record. She didn't pay Chad this money just to lose to her. Amelia knew she was a thorn to her side.

Amelia Welch would make her to clip that thorn.

So you've seen what I've done. Serena now has to win an entry ribbon by beating a random gym leader in a six-on-six battle only using Pokémon that took part in a winning contest.

Why did I add this twist? Well think about it. Some coordinators that take part in the Grand Festival probably won all five of their ribbons by entering contests where they could be the only good coordinator in the contest. (Meaning they only faced low level coordinators to win those ribbons) I've figured having these coordinators win a six-on-six battle against a gym leader would be the best way to evaluate how good they really are. After all I want all of the coordinators taking part in the Grand Festival to have the upmost honor, and this addition was the best way.

As stated, Serena will have to win a six-on-six battle against the Viridian City Gym Leader. So Ash and Serena can kill two Pidgeys with one stone when visiting that gym…maybe even battle together? You'll see when it comes to the Viridian Gym.

Stayed tuned as the fossil Pokémon will finally emerge onto the scene. We're getting close to Ash's seventh gym battle and then the second dark force strikes. There also will be an evolution, one we all knew was coming. See you next time!

Chapter 69: Ivysaur Blows a Gasket
