Silver Beast: Rejection

"Mate..." his demon purred, making Koga's spine straighten.

As his vision began to clear he felt the pressure in his chest lessen. The body aches, headache and upset stomach diminished and his heart began pounding in his chest. His demon was excited and itching to transform. Despite his best efforts to avoid her, it appeared his mate had found him and it was none other than...

"Ayame?" Koga blinked up in shock as he got to his feet.

His childhood sweetheart looked radiant with the sun shining through her fiery red hair. Her bright green eyes sparkled with unshed tears and her warm smile was spread from ear to ear. Her obvious joy was breathtaking and the added bonus of her curvy body made his already aching erection burn. Goddess, when did she get so pretty?

"I knew it! I knew my life mate would be you!" Ayame squealed for joy as she ran into his arms. She laughed when she knocked the wind out of his lungs. "Grandpa thought I was crazy, but there was no way my instincts were wrong!"

Before Koga had a chance to respond she stole his lips in a passionate kiss. At first he'd been frozen in shock at her boldness. Having denied his demon's needs for so long however he couldn't resist kissing her back. They'd kissed a couple of times in middle school but nothing could compare to this sweet torture. She tasted like strawberries and whipped cream. It was delicious and had him coming back for more. Her lips were so much softer and fuller than he remembered. It was no wonder he was struggling to regain control. As her lips moved against his, her little whimpers and mewls caressed his ears. The erotic sensations sent a shiver down his spine. He growled approvingly when he felt her little fangs and tongue begin to nip and lick along his neck. He'd always loved her fiery spirit. Apparently her playful nature was going to challenge him just as much, if not more in bed.

Needing to put her in her place he walked her backwards until her back was pressed against his work bench. There he hungrily devoured her lips as he ground himself against her belly. He groaned when he felt her legs loop around his back. The way her hips gripped around his allowed him better access to her aching center. It was obvious by the scent of her arousal and the way she trembled in his arms that she was just as sexually frustrated as he was. He could feel how wet she was for him. It was so strong that he could taste it on his tongue. Knowing she was like this because of him had him pounding harder against her. He nipped her lips and growled possessively when her claws dug into his shoulders. As he pressed her back onto the work bench he ran his calloused hands along her thighs. They were as smooth as they looked and firm to the touch. He loved listening to her hot pants and rapid heart beats as he moved against her.

It made him feel like he was in his true form chasing his prey through the woods. His demon howled with triumph when he slipped his hands under her top to cup her breasts. The way she cried out and threw her head back in submission was glorious. He loved the way her cheeks flushed as he rolled his thumb over the lacy fabric. Her nipples were so hard and begging for him to take a taste. They might have continued to bond as mates had she not began to undo the fastening on his jeans. It was as if a bucket of cold water had been dumped over his head. What the hell was he doing? He wasn't supposed to be giving into his instincts! He was supposed to mate with Kagame, not Ayame! He had to get away from her before he did irreversible damage. It killed him inside knowing he was going to have to break things off with Ayame. She didn't deserve to be rejected like this. Alas, life was cruel and he'd already decided what he'd wanted.

With the last of his strength he jumped away from her. He was pissed. Why did it have to be her? Why did it have to be Ayame?! Hadn't the fates mocked him enough already?!

"Damn it!" Koga cursed as he turned his back on her. Needing to blow off steam he grabbed an empty oil can and threw it up against the wall. The impact made a loud bang and forced a dent to form into the wall.

"Koga?" Ayame coward in fear. "Are, are you alright?"

"No!" Koga yelled as he kicked an empty barrel out of the shop. "No, I'm not alright! Everything is wrong! It's all wrong!"

"What's wrong?!" Ayame asked in concern. Her eyes began to water when she saw how upset he was getting. "Did I, did I displease you?"

"Yes!" Koga yelled, causing her to gasp and burst into tears. "Shit! Ayame, that's not what I meant!"

"Then what do you mean?" Ayame cried as Koga fought against his instincts to comfort her.

"It wasn't supposed to be you!" Koga growled in frustration. "I was supposed to be mated to somebody else."

"What do you mean to somebody else?" Ayame snapped. "The moon goddess picked me!"

"I was hoping it would be someone else." Koga sighed as he ran his claws through his bangs.

"Who else would it be but me?" Ayame growled angrily as she jumped off the work bench.

"Her name is Kagome." Koga said, as Ayame marched up to him. "She just moved here from America."

"Kagome... I've heard that name before." Ayame pondered for a moment. Her green eyes widened in surprise when it came to her. "Isn't she that seer girl Inuyasha took to prom?"

"You mean Inuyasha stole from me at prom." Koga corrected her as he crossed his arms over his chest in annoyance.

"There's no way Inuyasha stole her from you idiot." Ayame rolled her eyes. "I was your date for prom, remember?"

"What do you mean you were my date? I didn't ask you." Koga said, causing Ayame's shoulders to slump.

"Sango said you wanted to take me. I-I'd just assumed you did since we matched and everything." Ayame said, as she fiddled with her fingers nervously. "Did you really not want to take me to prom?"

"No. I'd planned on going with Kagome." Koga said, causing her tears to run down her cheeks. It killed him to see her look so heartbroken. "Look, Ayame, I had a great time dancing with you and everything but I never meant for you to get your hopes up. I made a promise to be with Kagome. So I'm going to wait for her celebration to take her as my mate."

"You can't be serious!" Ayame yelled. "Why would you do this to me? We promised to be together forever!"

"I know but, time changes things." Koga sighed. "Besides, we can't be together. Our packs..."

"Are ok with it." Ayame cut him off. "On the way here my grandpa and your dad had a heart to heart conversation over the phone. It was obvious by the direction my instincts were leading me that my mate was a member of the brown pack. I had hoped it would be you but it very well could have been someone else living on the reservation. Our packs couldn't continue to hate each other if the moon goddess was trying to unite our forces."

"What?" Koga blinked in surprise. "They are really putting their differences behind them?"

"For us, yes." Ayame said as she turned her back on him. "Well, so long as you mate with me that is. If you reject me like you plan, our families will be at odds once again."

"Damn it..." Koga cursed bitterly. He did not expect this turn of events.

"You obviously need time to think about what you want." Ayame said as she placed her hands on his chest. "Don't give up on us right away. Go and talk with this Kagome girl. If she wants to be with you like you want then you have my blessing."

"You'd really be ok with that?" Koga blinked in astonishment.

"Not really." Ayame answered honestly as she cupped his cheek tenderly. "It kills me to know you are thinking about leaving me for another woman. As painful as that is, your happiness is all I've ever wanted."

"Why?" Koga asked in confusion.

"Because I love you, you idiot." Ayame sniffled as her green eyes shimmered with fresh tears.

"Ayame..." Koga awed as she placed a soft kiss to his cheek.

"I'll be waiting for you if you change your mind." Ayame said before running out the garage door.

"Ayame!" Koga yelled as he watched her leave with a heavy heart. "Ayame!"

His beast was clawing inside of him to chase after her and beg for forgiveness but his stubborn pride refused to give in. He had to see things through with Kagome. He had to see if the feelings he had for her were for nothing. Defeated, angry and confused he slumped to the floor. He hit the back of his head against the cabinets in frustration.

"Ayame, forgive me..." Koga whispered as a single tear streaked down his cheek.
